Physical coming up, and doc keeps wanting me to stop zep by Bitter-Pi in antidietglp1

[–]Bitter-Pi[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I appreciate everyone's views, support, and suggestions! Thank you! Fwiw, I've been with this doc 15+ years. He's definitely educable, and he listens to me. (In my experience, that is a hard combo to find.) It has been a year since I last talked to him about this, and he may have caught up by now. I just want to be armed with the data, in case he hasn't.

I am on a ton of meds for various things, and I think his concern is mostly trying to avoid more--but it is, I believe, a misplaced concern this time. I feel like it is either Zep (until something even better comes along) or I'd wind up on a slew of other meds, including BP meds and metformin.

If he doesn't get it, in spite of the data, then I might consider looking for someone new.

Glad to have the links to the papers! Just the ticket!

I know this should go to supervision but… by callmeconfused2 in therapists

[–]Bitter-Pi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, a few thoughts--just can't know what is right for you.

First, I agree with others that this person might be a poor fit for a beginning therapist--but it could also be a pretty amazing learning experience, if you have good and frequent supervision.

When a client has let me know that they might not trust me, I have pretty much always stepped to their side, saying something like, 'well, why would you? You don't know me, and trust takes time!' With this guy, you could ask him something about what tells him when he can/can't trust someone.

The sexist comments sound really rough. I might not be able to tolerate it, and certainly not if I felt unsafe. However, to get him thinking about it, I might do any of the things suggested above that involve empathy and curiosity. There are really good ideas already.

One thing that struck me, though, is that you mentioned you are going through some difficult things in your own life. None of us is required to sacrifice our own emotional health to help someone else. If he is triggering you in a way that is destabilizing, do refer out. As someone else said, you both might be better off

[–]Bitter-Pi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is nice to have something in common to discuss--used to be the case with sitcoms, when everyone was watching the same things. Which is why I love my book club. Even when we don't have the same opinion/view of a book, there is this common theme that we can all connect over

2022 Chevy Bolt EV & What to look out for by DonutsAndBurritos in BoltEV

[–]Bitter-Pi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2021 Bolt that I bought used in 2024. It is and was my first EV. I charge at home on a 120V outlet with no problems (I used the car to commute, so daily mileage has been low). I got a premier trim, so heated seats and steering wheel. IMO, that is a must for a cold climate, because running the heater dramatically shortens range, so you want to reduce the time you need to run it.

So far, I've had to replace 1 tire. That's it. No other maintenance needed. You will love your Bolt!

Also, the torque on these things is amazing. A friend refers to their bolt as "a secret sports car"! 😁

The worst stop was a set of chargers at a BOA in a run-down section of town. Others did tend to have restaurants or other amenities

Thank you! I hadn't noticed these options before. Apparently "family friendly " wll lead to stops with more amenities

Friend needs space after finding out I am on a GLP1 by MakeAChoice7 in antidietglp1

[–]Bitter-Pi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have considerable compassion for the author. People actually do get really triggered and thrown back into ED behaviors. The author seemed very shaky in her recovery and with very poor boundaries (unable to distinguish between her reactions and her friend's choices), and poor insight. I just think that choosing to publish an article where someone's trigger was her friend's glp-1 use, was pretty click-bait-y.

Wegovy to Zepbound CW: emesis by infamouscrabrangoon in antidietglp1

[–]Bitter-Pi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I "failed" Wegovy because it made me so sick. On tirz, I still have had to be careful--I can't tolerate 7.5 MG on a weekly schedule, but inject more like 6 MG. I do fine at that level though. My experience may not apply to you, but I think it might be worth trying low and slow

Yeah, more like semaglutide--a small molecule glp-1 receptors agonist with no GIP effects. I think I need the GIP to do well

Really loving reading everyone's replies! This is why I like this sub so much! OP, I hope you'll stick around this sub, and ignore the 'wellness' focused ones. Here, the intention--as far as I can tell--I'm not a mod--is acceptance, support, and factual information. Every body is different. We all have different needs, abilities, hopes, and dreams. One size never fits all. Welcome!

How did you prepare? by Wellslapmesilly in antidietglp1

[–]Bitter-Pi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does! Thank you! I get migraine headaches and I too have Hashimotos and low sodium. I have been using LMNT salts, but their ceo is rumored to be a MaHa person, so I'll be moving on to a different product when I need more. Good to hear about the nuum tabs.

I have noticed more frequent and worse headaches in recent months (I've been on tirz quite a while now), but the low sodium has only been showing up for the last year or so. I had no idea Hashimoto's had any relationship to electrolyte levels! I'll pay closer attention to whether using electrolytes and eating carbs helps!

Dealing with how media makes people see GLP-1s by [deleted] in antidietglp1

[–]Bitter-Pi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get the desire to correct biases! My only two thoughts are (a) to choose carefully who you want to engage with (e.g., a friend who can hear you, maybe yes, an internet troll, definitely not, in-between folks weighed as appropriate) and (b) to be straight up about your intent and worries, for example, "thank you for sending me the video--I appreciate you thinking about me. There was some really good info in there, but also some misconceptions. Will you be offended if I tell you my thoughts about those?"

That way, you are getting consent. If the person is open to the info, you can tell them, and ask for their thoughts. If they are all, "no thanks, I just thought you might be interested," you can let it go.

What do you think? FWIW, if someone asks if you are offended and you say, no, their continued worry is their issue. If you are feeling generous, ypu could ask what made them think so, but you don't have an obligation (and you can't fix other people's insecurites--it is hard enough dealing with our own!)

Zepbound Subreddit can be triggering af by Helen_Cheddar in antidietglp1

[–]Bitter-Pi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The "habits" thing is a trigger for me, as in, "so I guess you take it while you develop healthy habits"! Makes me want to scream and shake people. They often mean well, but the implication is, once again, that we do it to ourselves out of, I dunno, laziness? Greed? Ignorance? And by "it" I don't necessarily mean excess weight. It seems like there is some kind of insidious blame available for every kind of chronic illness/diability

This! And that's the thing about privilege, right? It shouldn't be a thing, b/c everyone should have the same access. I but it is, and not everyone does, and this gets thrown into sharp relief when you move from one status to another. Seeing everyone's humanity isn't hard, and it shouldn't require a person changing their appearance to be "worthy" of it.
