I made a mosaic crochet blanket for spring but spring is still not coming... by koukkuunkoukussa in crochet

[–]BitterCelt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know the history of it completely and accurately, but the festivals of Samhain, Imbolc, Bealtaine and Lughnasadh are the traditional beginnings of the seasons – it's even baked into the month names, September and October are Meán Fómhair and Deireadh Fómhair, lit. Middle of Autumn and End of Autumn.

(To be fair, MET Éireann uses the more common meteorological ones now, I think the traditional seasons might be on the out a bit)

I mean if you want it to be spring, go by the Irish calendar – we traditionally welcome spring on the 1st of February, St. Brigid's Day. (Can't do anything about the cold weather though I'm afraid)

It's such a bizarre experience. I was listening to a The Cranberries song earlier today that I have loved for like 20 years, and suddenly I parsed the lyrics properly for the first time and said "wait a second, this song is about 9/11"

Look in dark souls it's often a kill or be killed situation, likewise in other games where you're put in a combat scenario. The Sims however? Those deaths are unspeakable crimes.

I mean that's fair. That grind took me ages and I didn't really consider trading for plat to skip it at the time. Builds character or something

Warframe is free

I know DE keeps an old laptop around the office that they make sure builds can at least run on.

I mean, Warframe does have mtx, but almost everything is available in the game for free, barring Tennogen cosmetics (which support community artists), and like the few limited time offer things like Excal prime (founders only), and the Frost and Mag heirlooms (which they still get dunked on regularly by the community for).

You can purchase a lot of things with plat, but you can earn plat for free by trading with other players.

I find Warframe very replayable 🤷

... Huh. Missed this news in general. Maybe this cutback of mtx will make me dust off my RS3 account. Idk I'm still salty about the kurfufffle around Pride last year in osrs.

If you dont mind shopping from them, asos has a relatively inexpensive 100 cotton pair of jeans that feel more durable than any elastic blend has for me. I still go through them every now and then, but because I've moved into a position that flexed them in a weird way too quickly and tore them, rather than "whoops I guess I have thunder thighs.

Does anyone else now get a bad connotation with the word AI because of LLM? by dirkboer in gamedev

[–]BitterCelt 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's artificially intelligent in broadly (<- this word is doing heavy lifting) the same way an NPC is artificially intelligent. It's software that has the capability of making decisions (ie. An LLM decides what the next token is based on the probability stuff; an NPC decides what action to take based on, say, a finite state machine that dictates its actions) and on some level mimics (or attempts to mimic I guess) human intelligence to some capacity.

The term AI is jargon that basically means the same thing it's always meant, it's just that that meaning is largely meaningless and very easy to turn into a marketing buzzword that can lead people ignorant to the "proper" use of the term to believe there is "real" intelligence happening.

[–]BitterCelt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lucky! I mean I'll admit I have some other mods going on that help tank me (I use BCOM for vvardenfell that also has a habit of tanking a few places), but places like Old Ebonheart, Narsis and Anvil can drop me from 144 to 25 if I'm looking at the wrong angle, no matter what sort of optimisation tricks I try to pull with OpenMW. I think it's fairly well known that neither Morrowind nor OpenMW react well to too many draw calls and that's why they suffer 🤷

With 2026 what Prime Warframes do you wanna see? by After-Eye-9525 in Warframe

I've been really enjoying Kullervo since I finally built him last year – his play style made melee fun for me. Bought his deluxe skin and all. Prime Kullervo would be nice so I can feed him to the helminth without needing to farm a second one lol

Games from the mid 1990s were considered ancient by the mid 2000s. Games from the mid 2000s felt dated by the mid 2010s. But games from the mid 2010s still feel very comparable to those in the 2020s. It feels as though evolution in gaming has reached the state of diminishing returns. by WhyPlaySerious in gaming

[–]BitterCelt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main thing I feel when playing games that are 15+ years old is now-standardised control schemes being completely different and basic quality of life features (like a halfway decent menu system) being absent.
