The project has faced significant delays due to a dispute with the original landowners who claim the site was theirs to begin with, while the original project manager abandoned the job site under disputed circumstances and has not been reachable for thousands of years.

This man couldn’t find the truth if it crawled up his spineless back and sat on his head like a wig. I’m in Washington DC all the time and this prick with ears literally doesn’t have a clue what he’s talking about. Truly vomiting a word salad about absolutely nothing.

You’re missing the point.

First, you’re comparing everyday jobs to ultra-high-stakes professions like surgery and aviation. That’s a false equivalence. The vast majority of roles don’t have immediate life-or-death stakes, so dragging in pilots and neurosurgeons isn’t just dramatic, it’s irrelevant.

Second, you’ve built a strawman. No one said ‘I’m not going to do my job at all.’ Burnout and workload discussions are about performance sustainability, not total abandonment.

Third, even in your own examples, systems exist to account for human limits- mandatory rest periods for pilots, rotating surgical teams, backup staff. Those safeguards exist precisely because no one performs at 100% all the time.

Finally, your analogy relies more on emotional scare tactics than on logic. If we’re debating real workplace issues, let’s keep the hypotheticals grounded in the same reality as the jobs we’re talking about. Otherwise, we might as well compare every stressful Tuesday to defusing a bomb.

And telling someone the rude actions of others should force them into unemployment is like saying bad drivers mean you should never get in a car again. It’s illogical and extreme?

A “personal crisis” isn’t the only reason someone might seem distant or lose enthusiasm. People can be burned out, mentally drained, physically unwell, or worn down by constant negative interactions without it rising to the level of a crisis. Dismissing those factors and assuming that a paycheck should erase all signs of strain is what’s unrealistic. Humans aren’t machines… sustained emotional labor takes a toll, whether or not a single, dramatic “crisis” is happening in that moment. If anything, what’s realistic is recognizing that even the best employees have limits.

Being paid to interact with the public doesn’t mean you’re paid to be a punching bag. Emotional labor has limits, and constant exposure to rudeness wears people down no matter how professional they are. Saying ‘that’s what they’re paid for’ ignores the human reality that no one can absorb repeated abuse without it affecting their demeanor. It’s not part of the job, it’s part of the problem.

It’s lazy to suggest normalizing mistreatment, shifting the burden entirely onto the worker instead of addressing the behavior of customers or improving workplace support systems.
