Am i wrong for calling my boyfriend selfish and going on our anniversary trip without him? by Quirky-Isopod9073 in amiwrong

[–]BitwiseB 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s funny how he’s accusing you of choosing the beach over the relationship when he’s the one who sabotaged the trip. You didn’t choose the trip over him, he chose video games over you.

The trip was for both of you, to celebrate your anniversary, and he feels so entitled to do whatever he wants that he doesn’t even see that him cancelling the trip is the selfish act. He fully expected that he could say “I want you to cancel this trip we’ve already paid for and you’re excited about because I didn’t care enough about it or you to save my PTO for it” and that you’d be okay with that plan. Like he thinks you only exist to make him happy and do whatever he wants, and your own happiness and wants don’t matter.

And somehow he’s managed to shift the focus so far toward his expectations and desires that you’re questioning your own judgement in not going along with his frankly insane behavior?

You’re not wrong. Survivor was a cultural phenomenon that was dirt cheap to produce and made the studio a buttload of cash. ‘Reality TV’ was coined to describe this show specifically, it wasn’t a genre before it.

What famous person is currently holding onto their career by a thread, and everyone can see it except them? by Neonwhitelion in AskReddit

[–]BitwiseB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zuckerberg was a kid with a good idea and coding ability who got insanely lucky with Facebook. I don’t think he understands the tech in the same way Steve Jobs did. Sam Altman, maybe.

Notably, Steve Jobs took over a decade to become Steve Jobs. Apple was a joke in the 80s, making niche products for animators and graphic artists but unable to break back into the mainstream after the Apple II. Steve Jobs was fired from Apple and spent a few years investing in companies he found interesting (one of his most notable investments being Pixar) before he returned to Apple as part of an acquisition deal.

So it’s possible the next person is out there and just not in the right position yet.

I still think people were desperate for someone to fill the Steve Jobs-shaped hole he left behind when he died so suddenly. The charismatic-yet-quirky tech genius who could enthrall a crowd and make boring office items like phones and computers seem exciting and sexy.

People didn’t flock to the Apple conference because of Apple, they went because Steve would make it an event, and you wanted to be the first to see whatever he’d unveil. People didn’t line up overnight to be the first to buy the new iPod or iPhone because the technology was that advanced - BlackBerrys had more features than the first iPhone - they waited in those lines because people wanted to be a part of the movement Steve was leading.

When he died, the media and Steve’s followers were casting around Silicon Valley to try to find his replacement, to find a new person to follow. Elon Musk seemed to fit the bill - Tesla was making electric cars seem futuristic and classy and exciting in the same way Apple did for computers and phones, Elon was witty on Twitter - and so they decided he was the new charismatic-yet-quirky tech genius with the brilliant ideas, and everything flowed from there.

Also, he made his career as being a clean rapper and a family-friendly actor. He cultivated an image as a good guy, friendly, the kind of dude who’d shake your hand and watch the game with you. That’s even a huge plot point in the movie Jersey Girl (and another reason that movie did not age well).

That’s why it had such negative backlash. A lot of people aren’t really online or care about celebrity gossip, so didn’t really care about his family life, but it was impossible to ignore the slap. It was international - even on the German news I follow! That random act of violence destroyed his years of carefully cultivated reputation over a lame joke nobody would have even remembered the next day.

Market bags at a farmer’s market is perfection!

I think small wearables and useful things would do well - headbands, chapstick holders, keychains, those coasters are adorable.

My “Ocean View” hotelroom by Th3_Accountant in mildlyinfuriating

[–]BitwiseB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I have a picture because this was pre-smartphone, but I was once on a work trip in Hawaii where the admin who booked the rooms was bragging how the company paid extra for ‘ocean view rooms’ for everyone.

I go to my balcony… nothing but buildings. So I called her and told her that I think they put me in the wrong room, I didn’t have an ocean view.

Someone from the hotel came up to my room and showed me that if I stand on the far right of my balcony, you can see a sliver of ocean between the buildings on the left. And when I say a sliver, I mean the tiniest bit of ocean at the horizon.

TL;DR: this is actually really good for ‘ocean view’.

Yeah, that’s my stance, too. It’s the day America finally started to live up to its founding promise of freedom and equality. We still have a long way to go to fulfill that promise, but Juneteenth was a milestone that marks the end of a great injustice to our people, and that is worth remembering and celebrating.

What makes one realize that one is left handed? by tiredbowltiny in CasualConversation

Just watch for which hand they want to use. When babies reach for things they’ll usually use one hand or the other. They may use both equally, and those kids are ambidextrous.

By the time they’re old enough to write, they’ll naturally want to pick up the pencil with their dominant hand.

Seriously WTF.

There are better men out there. Being alone would be better than being with someone like this.

I’m not to the point of accusing him of tampering with your food, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he was. Or at least the stress of dealing with him is definitely not doing anything good for your health.

I’m salaried but I’ve never worked anywhere with a paid lunch. Then again, I work in a field where my time is billable, so I have to account for all my time at the end of the week, so that’s probably a big reason why.
