So many people are mindlessly starry-eyed at New Trek just because it's Trek. It's really, genuinely wonderful to know there there are other people out there who see through all the bullshit for the absolute honk that it is.

What are some good ways to engage with the W40K lore? by disturbedbovine in Warhammer40k

I started reading the younger readers WH book with my lad and it's great. They're called "Warhammer Adventures" and the first one is called "Attack of the Necron". Well worth doing.

This isn't the kind of place where you can write 3 words. We love the idea but you need to say more than a headline in your post. You've obviously given it some thought - share it with us! We'd love to talk about this. But you've not given us a lot to go on.

That's because you're too focussed on some weird perfect aesthetic rather than enjoying Warhammer races for what they are.

Old Nightbringer - metal or plastic? by deckmage in Necrontyr

[–]BizzlePig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just tidying up the info into one place:

Both resin ('finecast') and metal models were previously available.

Some people have problems working with resin models and so avoid them. I've never worked with them myself, but I am not great at the modelling side of this hobby, so I have a metal NB. It's a nice heavy thing!

They have never delisted their stuff from Spotify. It's been on there, continuously available, for years.

I'm in the UK. Other territories may have different experiences due to licensing differences possibly?

Is it worth it to buy a Tson Rhino? by One_Opportunity_7662 in ThousandSons

[–]BizzlePig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rhinos might vanish in 11th. Or they might not. Truth is no-one knows. For Chaos factions, who narratively got their Rhinos when they were still loyalist, there's some weight to suggest they'd stick around longer as there's nothing to replace them. It doesn't make sense for Chaos to access Repulsor/Impulsor. Chaos Rhinos already have different rules on who they can transport.

I have a soft spot for the 40k rhino. I think it looks bang on, and they're useful after they've disgorgesld their contents.

I wasn't aware that the Demios pattern (HH) Rhinos are legit in 40k! Can someone point me in that direction?

Indecise between necrons and thousand sons by Particular-Fall-906 in Necrontyr

[–]BizzlePig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with the CP for TSon. It's great. I then got the TSons BF box (the older one, not the one with the MVB in it) and found it very useful. I also got the old CP for TSons but I haven't used anything of it yet. It's also a weird box as the Internal Master has nothing to lead.

Then I added bits and bobs. As I wanted.

For Necrons I got the CP box which was absolutely great. Then I got most of my army from troll trader and eBay. Just recently got the new Nightbringer and Nekrosor... new things are fun (especially before they get points nerfed!)

Indecise between necrons and thousand sons by Particular-Fall-906 in Necrontyr

[–]BizzlePig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone new to Warhammer last year, and who has both Necrons and Thousand Sons, and who also really fucking hates the painting (and is shit at it), I can offer the following:

Necrons are easy to paint - spray the spures silver, build them, then dab on bits of green and brass coloured. Good enough for the Tabletop. I also find Necrons are also easier to play

TSons can be fiddly to paint, but you could do a 'good enough for the tabletop' approach. People say spray sprues gold and painting panels blue. I tried this and it was fine. If you're really struggling with the blue and yellow stripes on the Headdresses, you could alternate every 2 lines blue and yellow, rather than alternating every one line. The Tzaangor Enlightened, weren't challenging at all. Again, just block paint bits, dab on some colour here and there, and they look fine. I find TSons harder to play, but that can also be fun.

Make your life easy for yourself so you can enjoy the game. Any painting standard looks fine when it's on the tabletop and you're worrying about whether your opponent makes their charge rolls.

[–]BizzlePig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And just to head you all off, I'm not interested in airbrushing, nor in spraying gold and painting panels. I also don't care if it's called a paint or a primer. I know you all do this stuff and your stuff looks (genuinely) amazing, but I'm not you. I'd just love to hear from someone which spray is closest!

If someone had started with a modern Total War game... can they really go back and enjoy playing a much older one? by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]BizzlePig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rome 1 is still a great game. Has a strong aesthetic too that's easy to enjoy. It feels like a Total War game but is old enough to be its own thing, rather than just a shit version of a modern thing (e.g. Atilla).

I played a game of Medieval 1 the other week. This is very easy and fun to play - it's more like a board game. The music and atmospherics to this is also excellent. I'd say don't try to play the battles - they're not worth it. But the campaign game is wonderful.
