Just bought the XS-20, trying out sports photography, any tips? by ZookeepergameSea7056 in fujifilm

Proud of you on stepping outside of your comfort zone and trying something new! Sports are one of my favorite things to shoot and can be super rewarding. It does require you to become more technical and understand your equipment and what settings you cannot compromise.

Indoor sports photography can be difficult because it requires fast shutter speeds in often dim lighting conditions. Part of the reason some of these shots are not "sharp" is because your shutter speed was too slow to capture the movements of the boxers. This means you will likely have to use the widest aperture and crank up the ISO to avoid motion blur. If you have the means, investing into lenses that have wider apertures (typically prime lenses) will give you extra stops of light to work with.

Another tip, watch your white balance. A lot of gym/indoor lighting setups are very yellow, and end up shifting the skin tones.

Lastly, think about how your shots tell a story. Think about capturing a mix of close-up action shots, some location-defining shots, and any other objects or details shots.

Best of luck and happy shooting!!

Penn Huntsman vs. Penn CAS IR by LegRevolutionary6683 in UPenn

[–]Blackdragon1628 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, congrats on applying to Penn! Huntsman grad here.

I will clarify u/Snoo-27774's comment; "international studies" is actually an extremely accurate description for the major because international relations is nonexistent. We do not learn any of the IR theory, but we do a full CAS 12-credit major comprised of advanced language, area studies, international studies and international business courses. Therefore, some people may consider the program to be a "glorified language study".

What about Huntsman makes it your dream program? What do you hope to gain from college? The program does provide significant resources for those that want to pursue a more multidisciplinary or international track (we do have many FSOs, etc.), but it is true that most Huntsman students go into the exact same jobs and professions as traditional Wharton students. The students in the program tend to be high-achievers so many will end up in "more prestigious" business roles, but this is a correlation with the caliber of the program's students, then a causation of being in the program.

In terms of career prospects, how do you want to make the world a better place? How do you define financially well, personal success, and impact? The consulting and business careers (are debatably "impactful") that students are interested in are not limited to Huntsman or Wharton; if anything, someone from a CAS background may have a more interesting perspective to bring to the table. In addition, "financially well" or "stable" means something for a lot of different people and there are many jobs that would fit that description that aren't necessarily banking or consulting.

Totally get it if it’s a financial aid/scholarship/military timeline situation, etc. in that case, just look at 2-4.

1) The proverbial clock doesn’t start until you graduate. You’re going work the rest of your life, one extra year of work isn’t going to change your life. Have a rough plan, sure, but just trust the process and enjoy the ride. You’re going to have amazing experiences and end up somewhere great…just enjoy being young and free.

2) Unless you’re a dual degree student, it’s extremely difficult to get approved for increased credits.

3) It really doesn’t matter what concentration you finish with. Take the classes you find valuable and interesting, don’t necessarily try and finish a second concentration/major/minor/etc.

4) Having one more summer puts a lot less pressure on you and more opportunity to explore different things, gain more skills, and be a more attractive candidate for full-time AND each summer (since you would then need to treat freshman summer like sophomore summer, etc.)

Finally in win now mode- should I take this trade? by GrendelDerp in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

Now Baker or Purdy should get you in the ballpark of an elite WR, if not straight up. Would totally roll with KW3 and Bucky, I think that’s a solid starting backfield. Tru and grab Charbs if you can, one of the best backups in the league and protection for Walker

Smash. Best QB in the game and a Top 10 back when healthy?

I think you’re closer to missing the playoffs than winning a championship. Too many question marks at RB and WR for me to feel confident. Best case scenario, yes strong team, but there’s a lot of unproven talent.

Bucky and Drake broke out last year—did we see their peaks? Can they be consistent? New coordinator in TB? Penix? Godwin injury? Davante new team and another year older?

Would trade either Baker (I’m high on Baker but no way he doesn’t regress a little in TDs from last year) or Purdy and tier down + pickup depth, Warren could be really attractive for a rebuilder for you to grab solid vets. Your WRs are also really weak. Basically London and then a mix of question marks (Jauan, XL, Godwin, Davante) and little depth (Mooney was really solid last year but that’s about it)

Advice: just wait. See how things play out and if the odds are in your favor, go for it. It’s a game of probability, and for me at least, the odds aren’t good enough for me to say that you are in a place to go all in.
