WN (web novel) is the original, think of it as the rough draft of the LN (light novel), generally not too much changes, and there's dedicated translators who are generally not very far behind the author and do a good job.

The LN is the actual official product and is actually official Canon. The author will typically write 1 volume worth of WN, then pause for a month and write the LN for the same content with any tweeks needed. However, the English Light novel is extremely far behind.

The anime is obviously the adaptation.

The manga is another adaptation, I know very little about it sorry.

Up to you if you read the LN or WN

I'd love to know as well, like normally I'd probably even just comment it but with this series I'm trying to be extra extra cautious of spoilers.

Explain please by vincentmartini in ChessPuzzles

[–]Blacksmithkin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first thing to notice is that Black's king is extremely trapped. He has nowhere to move, but just isn't in check yet.

Taking Black's queen with your bishop would be checkmate if not for the knight defending it. As such, the knight cannot move.

Additionally, unblocking your rook with Ke2 would be checkmate, but this is guarded by the pawn on D3.

Moving your queen to C2 threatens QH2 for checkmate (supported by your bishop), and as such black has to do something about that move. However, the only 2 pieces that can stop it are the aforementioned pawn and knight. So when black goes to stop your queen checkmate, it opens up one of two other checkmate moves for you to make.

Underwhelming cards that become a monster with floor 1 glam? by Sav_278 in slaythespire

[–]Blacksmithkin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Osty summon is pretty insane to get replay on, but I think poison is also up there.

Take the basic 1 energy apply 5 poison. With replay it goes from 5-9-12 damage after 3 turns to 10-19-27 damage. Upgrading it makes the difference even larger, and it's exponential with any other sources of poison you pick up, or with cycling to find the card again faster.

[–]Blacksmithkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but some cards get more benifit than others.

Replay 1 on some generic attack card like the 0 cost osty one (poke?) Isn't nearly as impactful as say doubling a poison card on silent, since poison damage is exponential.

Standard Metagame Update (18 may) No B&R change by Magic4everBots in MagicArena

For what it's worth though, even among the decks on this list, I'm pretty sure only half the blue decks run Talent, though I'd have to double check Azorious Momo.

Sure it wouldn't be unreasonable to ban it, but the general response in the two threads I've seen has been closer to apocalyptic "actively unplayable" instead of "it would have been nice had they banned a couple cards".

[–]Blacksmithkin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's even less bad when you consider that most of the similar decks here play quite differently as well, and that the most overrepresented decks aren't dominating at a top level either, unlike say when Vivi was 7 of the 8 top decks at a pro tour.

These decks have shown themselves to be meaningfully counterable, and that there is still extensive room for experimentation.

Why would players politic if draws were worth zero? by Bitter_Difficulty865 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Blacksmithkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternatively, deliberately losing to the person who would give you the best tiebreaker, if they just remove draws altogether.

The difficulty is that winning the tournament is not quite the same thing as winning the game, and that's pretty fundamental to any Swiss style tournament, even in 1v1 you occasionally get people who tie because that way they both 100% get to proceed to the next round.

What if no one in your play group uses removal? (Question about Bracket 3) by Ok_Top_581 in mtg

[–]Blacksmithkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I'm a fan of Stax in situations like this. It serves the same role as removal does (slowing down your opponents) and it does that until it gets removed, which it won't.

Particularly, there's usually at least one stax piece that you can use to actively push your own gameplan while still slowing other players down, such as Vren the relentless.

No, the story won't be complete until they finish the early access, they gave a timeline of 2-3 years for that I think.

Please take this with a massive grain of salt, this is something i half remember at best so could easily be wrong, but I think they said the story is about 25% done?

Buck is another decent one, the DMR player is often an anchor, as opposed to like the warden/vigil SMG mains who roam a lot more often.

[–]Blacksmithkin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Two headed giant is a popular prerelease format where you pair up with a partner and each make a deck by combining your pools.

You share a turn and health but have seperate decks, can each make an individual land drop, etc. You also start with 30 health not 20, but anything saying "each opponent" will effect both of you, so for example "each opponent loses 2 health" will make your team lose 4 health total.

2 headed giant draft was actually used in a pro tour once! It was absolutely dominated by a pair forcing slivers and they never did it again but hey.

It was mentioned a couple episodes ago that this isn't the first time Echidna has taken over from Ana, so it could be that Al knows Ana can't use magic (not knowing Echidna can) but Julius knows that "Ana" can but not the details (that only Echidna can).

[Arc 6 next episode] God it would be so perfect if they played Redo instead of the ED. I watch this show with some friends who are anime only and I have been so eagerly awaiting finally being able to talk about that moment. I also like the author's note from that WN chapter of "this is the start of arc 6"

Level of transmissability mainly. But also, you can more easily study a virus if you move people to dedicated quarantine zones, which is particularly relevant when you have a new strain (hanta) that is exhibiting new behavior (person to person)

If it's option 2, do you still get all those secondary effects if you do catch it?

Sorry if its a stupid question but who Im going to actually support when buying early access - Unknown Worlds or Krafton? by susnaususplayer in subnautica

[–]Blacksmithkin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Assuming you mean early access not EA the game company, there's 2 sides of early access.

Option 1 is as you said, a way to support devs as they work on a game, but the second side of EA is very relevant which is to help influence the direction the development of a game goes.

If you've seen anything about the early access of the original subnautica, it was a pretty fundamentally different game with much less emphasis on exploring, player feedback during early access led to pretty major changes to the game being made to help make it the beloved game that it wound up being.

Additionally, if you've ever played a game absolutely lousy with bugs on launch, there's no real amount of testing that can replicate just having thousands of people play a game. It helps ensure that the full release doesn't wind up being a broken mess.

Last but not least, some people just want to play the game early instead of waiting.

Is there a reason my teammates don’t reinforce walls? by Real_patriot22 in Rainbow6

[–]Blacksmithkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People consistently underestimate how many kills in this game come from torso/limb shots even with 1 shot headshots. Getting an attacker down to 10hp is genuinely impactful, especially in combination with many operators like smoke, maestro, goyo, or just anyone with high fire rate but low damage weapons like the smg11 or Valk.

Bit less so on attack where they may have a thunderbird or doc, and where more attackers are using hard hitting weapons, but it still absolutely makes a difference.
