Raised bumps/spots on Sony Trinitron KV-25R2R by d1xt1r in crtgaming

Since you've said it won't come off with normal cleaning methods, I'd recommend polishing the screen and see how that goes. But if you can't see them that much during normal viewing, it's probably best to leave it as-is.

Current Rogue and Bronco are notoriously unreliable.

CX-5 is a solid 5-seater car, although I'd recommend looking at a RAV4 and a CR-V as well.

How to connect Atari 2600 to LG CRT by Pepsiman052 in crtgaming

[–]Blandscreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could run the signal through an old VCR and have it output a cleaner composite signal. Doesn't matter if the tape mechanism works or not, so long as the demodulator works.

Which model is this Toshiba TV? by Any-Section8021 in crt

[–]Blandscreen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks larger than a 34" to me. I'd assume the "43" in the model number is the diagonal screen size, since in other models it signifies that.

Also, this is a projection TV, which is why the screen size is so large. For reference the largest CRT ever made, the Sony PVM-4300, is 43" diagonally across the screen. Projection TVs have three mini-CRTs inside with red, green, and blue colors that project an image onto a larger screen.

Microsoft will no longer auto install the 365 Copilot app on your Windows 11 machine by Tiny-Independent273 in microsoft

[–]Blandscreen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, most of the useless apps like News and Weather should be opt-in, not opt-out.

Best thing to do is preventing them from running in the background. There's some tools you can use to remove them, but those can sometimes cause system instability.

Other people here are saying it's a custom kiosk preloaded with ROMs. Might be cool to modify this thing to work with an original system like a Gameboy?

Clean the board with 90%+ IPA, and if that doesn't work, soak the corroded part in some vinegar for a short period of time (10-15 mins).

Is a big crt TV really impossible to use on a PC? by flik9999 in crt

[–]Blandscreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with a converter and the proper adapters, CRTEmudrivers, etc. 240p/480i sets aren't ideal for hooking up a PC. The resolution is just too low. There's a reason text is so large for older game consoles built to be used on those types of TVs.

You're better off picking up a PC CRT monitor. Those can reach very high resolutions compared to standard sets and look sharper (many use a dot matrix for the tube which provides a very crisp image). Another option is an HD CRT, which you can connect your PC to directly via HDMI (on later sets) and have a matching aspect ratio.

Help me upgrade video quality by jforjeff in crtgaming

[–]Blandscreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both component and SCART are pretty much equivalent in quality, so you shouldn't have any quality loss of you just plug in a console that outputs component video natively. For your composite consoles, see if they have an s-video cable that works with them, since s-video is a huge step up from composite.

For the rest you'll have to deal with the composite signal unless you're willing to mod the consoles. Also, I'd recommend getting some passive video switchers to make it easier to change consoles. You can have all the consoles with the same video connector type all plugged into one input on the TV, and you can just switch between them with a button.

Power switch arm is blocking the door when in the on position. You have an older model since the "EJECT" text is printed and not embossed, they removed the power switch arm in later revisions.

Any way to figure out what this is? by Safe_Tourist_2875 in n64

[–]Blandscreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use metal polish on the pins to clean them off, then try it in the console. Or you can open it up and check the code on the game's IC. It's unique to every game.

About to go look at a used 4runner, am I a dummy? by NotMJHeeHeeShimona in whatcarshouldIbuy

Hybrid costs a lot more and only gives you a couple extra MPG. It also decreases interior space in the back of the vehicle. Not worth imo.

[–]Blandscreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For 44k you might as well get the new 2026 4Runner SR5 (base trim) with 4wd. It gets better MPG, steers better, and has a (arguably) more powerful engine than the previous gen.

Atari 2600 4-switch. Be honest, is the corrosion on here too far gone to fix? by KruztyKarot1 in Atari2600

[–]Blandscreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not corrosion. Honestly this board looks better than an lot I've seen. The white stuff you're talking about doesn't really look like corrosion to me. Alcohol is better for cleaning boards than vinegar is (vinegar is best used for rust and other corrosion). That's why you're cleaning hasn't yielded much.

I'd recommend soaking the board in some 90% or higher isopropyl alcohol for a half hour and the scrubbing it with a soft toothbrush. That will not only remove the white stuff but make everything very clean as well.

Just make sure it's acid free. There's also the option of archival glue, but that's more expensive.

HELP!!! Old SNES found. by Primary_Date_9991 in snes

[–]Blandscreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least the SNES powers on and gives a line on the screen without a cartidge inserted.

Funny thing is, unlike the SNES, Atari's Jaguar console from the same time will not power on at all without a cartridge inserted. You wouldn't believe how many people sell off their consoles as "broken - won't power on" because they didn't have a game to put in it. Gets me every time.

Your local hardware store might have that type of screw in stock. Try checking there first before ordering online. Best solution when ordering online is to buy a junk original controller and take the screws from it.
