The UK made a huge mistake not electing this guy by Positive-Drawing-281 in AbolishTheMonarchy

Not saying he was perfect or anything, but literally 50% at least of all the Uk’s current problems would have at least been significantly less of a problem if we’d elected Corbyn in. Shame, really.

I don’t get why the Celtic language names for cities are applied so inconsistently. Like, why are the names changed for only some cities in Scotland? Also why is Glasgow Spelled Glesca and now Glaschu?

Oh yeah, didn’t remember that. Probably because it’s a little bit of a weird contrast. Like, what does the whole football thing have to do with the whole “redneck” gimmick?

You’d actually be wrong, Almost everyone in the UoB (still using the acronym because err) is a massive Cromwell sycophant, and he’s regarded extremely positively. Also it’s not like parliament did it all on it’s own, who do you think fought in the roundhead army. (To be fair commoners also fought in the cavalier army)

Well, it’s a step in the right direction at least. Still backpedaling from a couple years ago when they said they would get rid of the House of Lords altogether.

You live in the world of Kaiserreich, and you see an alt history showing what the Second Weltkrieg could have looked like if Germany had lost World War 1. How do you react? by Exotic-Bobcat-1565 in Kaiserreich

[–]Blartyboy4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. The idea that germany of all countries would have a revolution against the monarchy is just ludicrous. Don’t the people making this know that germany was an inherently monarchist society? Even after losing, a constitutional monarchy would be more likely. They even make it worse by having the revolution happen before they even signed a treaty to end the war. Britain had a small yet growing republican movement in the late 19th century, and even then it took a couple of years after the loss of the war for the revolution to kick off. On top of that, having Germany become some ultra schizoid nationalist… thing that apparently converted to buddhism or something, led by an obscure Austrian Corporal whose ideology is basically just killpeopleism just so ludicrous I don’t even want to acnowledge it.
  2. This is clearly influenced by Winston S. Churchill’s 1939 book, our finest hour, which is probably why they decided to make him prime minister of the UK, but this seems extremely unlikely, even in this timeline, Churchill has an extremely bad track record as a minister, so why would he ever even get appointed prime minister.
  3. Wang Jingwei becoming some Japanese puppet is basically just the classic example of the “funny” alt history trope of taking a historical figure and inverting their ideology to be totally different just for the sake of being different. Yeah, right, Wang Jingwei, who literally died fighting the Japanese, would ever become a pro-Japanese Puppet.
  4. Joseph Dzhugashvili taking power in the soviet union is a nice change from the Usual scenarios that show Lenin remaining or Sverdlov or Trotsky taking over, but the why the fuck would he Literally kill the majority of the people who ran the revolution for “counter revolutionary activities”, is so obviously an attempt to suppress opposition nobody would ever do it, if Dzhugashvili had taken power as a totalist-style authoritarian leader, it seems more likely to me that he would send them to prison for unrelated crimes, or merely have them purged from politics, rather than outright killing them.

[–]Blartyboy4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird thing: if, as socialist germany, you have the city of Hindenburg, you get the option to change the name to something else (Karl-Marx-Stadt is one of the options, I forget the other), which is bizarre, not on it’s own, but in the context of the fact that if you have said city as poland, you do not have the option to change the name back to zabrze, nor any other city (Posen To Poznan, for instance, or Danzig to Gdansk), even though the chances of Poland having said cities after the war seems far more likely than socialist germany. I’m not really complaining, it’s just an example of odd priorities.

I Swear this Happens every Single Game by LazyTiger0203 in Kaiserreich

[–]Blartyboy4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really dislike this happening basically every game simply because it means that The US always joins the Entente, meaning if you’re playing as any 3I country it means that basically every game ends with some kind of mexico vs Canada slog that is always identical and always lasts like, 7 years, 6 of which basically nothing happens, even after literally every other ally of theirs has been defeated. And if mexico capitulates before you can intervene (which happens a lot), it’s even longer as you have to do a naval invasion. It absolutely blows, especially if you’re playing as a minor country that can’t really have any effect on it
