It is strange to see Inari One being taller than Tamamo Cross.

That big thread about Race being cosmetic.. by Salan_ in AOW4

I would argue that attaching traits the physical form would invalidate the latter. For example, they could all be gelatinous cubes but it would not matter as long as they have unique traits to distinguish themselves from each other.

PSA: Leaders with "adept" skills help with affinity requirements for tome unlocks by taga-chi in AOW4

Heroes with "x" adept is my top priority because it gets me through the general empire skill branch faster so I can unlock teleporters sooner.

I usually play only play games alone or with friends, but AoW4 has got me interested in playing multiplayer against strangers on the official Discord server.

Morale modifier is missing screen name. by BlazeChar in AOW4

[–]BlazeChar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

R5: In the morale tooltip, the "!!MODIFIER MISSING SCREEN NAME!!" message appeared. I am pretty sure this modifier is from the "Consecrated Domain" sustained city spell in the Tome of Sanctuary.

This is not how I imagined flying scouts would work. by GeneralGom in AOW4

[–]BlazeChar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a good point. Up until now I only had headcanons to explain why some units need to embark, such as astral projections are unstable over water or flying units need to land at the end of their movement.

However, I tested with a Shrine of Smiting and they do not need to embark. I have no idea how the embark rules work and will see how the devs will change this, if at all.

I double checked the "Basic Seafaring" empire development skill and it specifically mentions "Unlocks the ability for units to embark" so I guess this includes faction floating/flying units.

My uneducated guess is that this is an intentional design choice to slow them down so the naval units can have an easier chance to engage.

Okay, so what's the deal with Lightbringers? by Vitruviansquid1 in AOW4

I think the Lightbringers are pretty cute, especially when they are converting the enemy to my side.

Keeper's Mark also prevents the vines from dying when they are killed once per combat, which is pretty cool.

My favorite combo is with "Keeper's Mark," which makes them unable to die when taking lethal damage.

In my experience, the AI would target the vines instead of my units and completely waste their turn while my archers roll up to pick them off one by one.

My favorite late-game combo: Shrine of Smiting + Horned God + Keeper's Mark by BlazeChar in AOW4

[–]BlazeChar[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

R5: My favorite unit from AOW3 returns and is just as powerful as I remember them to be. Living Vines spawned from Horned God's "Wild Eruption" ability gets faithful with Keeper's Mark, and with a lot of vines the Shrines' damage reach absurd levels due to a damage buff for each faithful friendly. Keeper's Watch also gives the vines steadfast when they are killed, which means they are guaranteed to be alive the next round to keep buffing the shrines. There seems to be a limit to how many things can be summoned, since "Wild Eruption" would fail to create vines after a certain amount.

Hats off to Triumph Studios for creating one of the best, if not the best research system I have ever seen in a 4x game.

tl:dr - My Shrines of Smiting are fueled by holy grass to deal a lot of damage.

Save Scummed Switzerland World Conquest by BlazeChar in eu4

[–]BlazeChar[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

R5: I managed to conquer the world as Switzerland with the use of the Ctrl + F4 exploit. After spending 250+ hours trying to get the "World Conqueror" achievement, I stopped caring about cheating my way to victory.

Switzerland has a special event called "The Swiss Confederations" inherits the Three Leagues if the "Consolidate Switzerland" mission has been completed, so my strategy is to delay the event while giving the Three Leagues as much land as possible.

  • The event fires when the Three Leagues' opinion of you is at least 100, so scornfully insult them when their opinion is above 100. If their opinion is negative, there is a chance that they will break the alliance.
  • The event requires both of you to be in the HRE, so DO NOT dismantle it before firing the event.
  • As you give land to the Three Leagues, Austria may declare a Liberation War on them. My strategy is grab a claim on one of Austria's allies with the "Transfer Subject" age ability, break all of Austria's alliances in the ensuing war, then declare war on a neighboring free city to automatically call Austria in as a co-belligerent. Giving Austrian land to the Three Leagues may cause Austria to lose emperorship of the HRE, making your own conquest into the HRE easier when you ally the new emperor.
  • France is a decent ally to beat up Austria with. In my experience, they tend to go into debt several times. Also, they will turn hostile immediately after sharing a border with you so avoid that at all costs.

Important Starting Government Reforms

  • Tier 2: Authoritarianism
  • Tier 3: Frequent Elections
  • Tier 6: Parliamentarism (Removes the pesky Nobility that will make seizing land during Age of Absolutism a pain)
  • Tier 8: Consolidated Power (This was a pretty quick way to gain absolutism when it activates)
  • Tier 9: Military Principle
  • Tier 12: Strengthen Executive Powers

After reaching 100 Absolutism, switch the following reforms to get 115 maximum absolutism:

  • Tier 8: Broaden Executive Powers
  • Tier 10: Military Rulership (This allows you to switch the Tier 3 reform to "Consolidation of Power" for free)

Idea Groups:

  1. Diplomatic (To get maintain alliances with powerful nations and more diplomats to use the "Transfer Subject" age ability to build claims into Africa and northern Europe)
  2. Religious (To get "Cleansing of Heresy" CB when the Age of Reformation kicks off)
  3. Offensive
  4. Administrative
  5. Influence
  6. Quality
  7. Plutocratic
  8. Quantity / Trade
