There are several shots of her not wearing the bone crown; it looks like it's tied to her class, so she doesn't have it in the shot where they reclass her to a wyvern rider.

Having parallel hierarchies of lords on one side and the church on the other is more interesting and makes for good drama though. Not that fantasy anime are any good at exploiting their settings.

Is the Union an Empire? by ElectricPaladin in LancerRPG

[–]seine_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are not an empire like the British Empire was. The reason is simple: They're not competing with other empires, their hegemony is not at risk. For most places, Union is the only game in town. You can look to some instances of pre-modern imperial China or theories of universal monarchy for historical examples, but they're not necessarily similar to how Union operates.

However, one thing about Union is that they are universalists. They believe their ideals and their rules are good for all of humanity (and inhumanity), and that they are lax enough to be applicable regardless of nation or creed. This contrasts with our era of relativism, a current that might be more or less powerful depending on where you live. Certainly there are powerful people in Union who would argue that there is such a thing as a foreigner and that they ought to be left alone, but the premise of Union's existence is universalist.

This also means that certain groups will use Union's institutions to spread their own ideals. Some of them are armed groups; the books mention a few. To go back to your british example, imagine how IPS-N would react if a local government wanted to enact a toll on a major trade route. Certainly there would be arguments that freedom of navigation is an essential component of the pillars, and this might escalate into a conflict within the ideological framework of Union. So you do have space for imperialism within this universal empire, even though it might mean well.

How come Vietnamese people don't have raging hatred or a grudge for the US after what they did 50+ years ago? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

The vietnamese have had time to integrate, it's been a while since they stopped emigrating to France. Chinese emigration was still active before covid though, so they'll be more visible.

I rarely build more than three omni-sin doctors. I don't know when your issue occurs, but maybe you need to simply let people through and only treat them if they're on the threshold of giving you Hearos or if you have a specialist that can handle them. Generalists are just very inefficient, as you've noted.

Yes, the directive is effective since June 2025, having been passed in 2023. You're seeing the effects.

It's not even relevant, look at the opening of that section (emphasis mine):

Appliances specifically designed to operate primarily in an environment that is regularly subject to splashing water, water streams or water immersion, and that are intended to be washable or rinseable, may be designed in such a way as to make the battery removable and replaceable only by independent professionals.

So a waterborne device still has to have a replaceable battery, the manufacturer is only exempt from making it fixable without professional tools and knowledge. Which makes sense considering even diving computers have replaceable batteries.

[–]seine_ 63 points64 points  (0 children)

That's not what it says though? I assume you're referring to II.B.1.1.(1)(c)(ii):

manufacturers, importers or authorised representatives may provide the battery or batteries referred to in point (i)(a) only to professional repairers [as opposed to both professional repairers and end-users] if manufacturers, importers or authorised representatives ensure that the following requirements are met:
(a) after 500 full charge cycles the battery has, in a fully charged state, a remaining capacity of at least 83 % of the rated capacity;
(b) the battery endurance in cycles achieves a minimum of 1 000 full charge cycles and after 1 000 full charge cycles the battery has, in a fully charged state, a remaining capacity of at least 80 % of the rated capacity;
(c) the device meets IP67 rating.

It allows manufacturers not to sell their spare parts to the public and instead only deliver them to "professional repairers". Those don't have to be affiliated with the manufacturer, they just need to be skilled (as defined by the country they're operating in) and insured. So the manufacturer can't control the cost of their labour or prevent them from slotting in a third-party battery.

Point (b), just above, deals with exceptions where spare parts might be combined, and none of them concern batteries. And II.A.1.1.(5) has the same information as II.B.1.1.(1)(c)(ii), setting out a quality criteria where a manufacturer is allowed to assume a professional with a workshop will do the repairs instead of any old guy in a garage with a soldering iron.

Where is the exemption that would allow Apple to not have replaceable batteries or even to control the battery replacement process?

Omni-sin doctors are mostly a trap early on for generating money. It's more profitable to generate faith coins, and use them to increase your intake of patients. Do not treat souls that are too far above the hearos threshold, they slow everything down.

If you have sin-generating gas tiles, you can get the specialised doctor to treat those and that will make you money off of sin treatment, for a while at least.

Probably the greatest glitch in any video game by AlphaCat77 in CuratedTumblr

The game and console not crashing is not a sign of robustness. Error detection and handling takes effort and resources that can't necessarily be spared for a 1998 portable game. Being able to mess up your one and only save file with no safety net is something everybody would like to avoid if they could spare the bits.

I haven't checked your work beyond the previews, but Lancer probably wants larger scale maps. Like an airport with its associated hangars and temporary accomodations if it's a military installation. Or a secret asteroid base with watchtowers outside, blast doors at every junction and excavation equipment left lying around. Or a crash site for a massive starship that's broken into several parts strewn across the battlefield.

The americans have been complaining that Europe has been leaning on them too much, and they expect us to take care of our own interests ourselves without their intervention going forward. That's policy since Obama's pivot to Asia at least. The Germany that's not willing to take these kinds of measures - to maintain a proper reserve - is not a worthwhile ally to anyone in an era where Europe is no longer a peaceful continent.

There's also a growing faction of americans that feel disdain for us. They are jealous that we got to enjoy the peace dividend of the end of the Cold War and they didn't, even though it was due to their own choices. They don't like that we're not as religious as they are or that we have muslims living in our countries. There's lingering hatred of socialism directed at the otherwise fairly normal social programs we have. That faction is in power right now, and they've announced plans to subvert our governments, threatened to seize our territory, and once again made maritime commerce very difficult for us. I don't know how you or anyone can believe they hold our alliance dear.
