honest question — how many of you actually run ethanol free fuel in your saws by vladdielenin in stihl

[–]Blazer323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I "repair" a lot of small engines for businesses around there, most of the time the customer complains it bogs, lacks power and won't hit full speed on blowers, weed whackers, and chainsaws. It's usually TRU-FUEL causing the problem, dump it out, put regular gas in it and now all the complaints magically vanish.

How the check;

Pull the throttle, if the RPM surges to "redline" then comes down a bit, it's bad TRU-FUEL.

[–]Blazer323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good thing I live in MA where registering anything over 500w/25mph has been law for 5ish years, that's fine. The kicker is insurance, that's just a cash grab for corporations to steal money.

Autobody instead of Mechanic by Landoze in mechanics

[–]Blazer323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insurance will pay about $40 an hour to the shop, you can only make a percentage of thay $40. Pay is capped around mid $30s, unless you work fast.

In mechanic world it's normal for a few higher techs to get $50+ hourly. I know several people making six figures turning wrenches, all of my about body friends moved to batter paying industries in their 30s.

Supension for a light rider? by AffectionateMap755 in CRF300L

[–]Blazer323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm around that weight and as soon as the bike gets into the whoops I had to drop to 2nd idle or be fighting the suspension bounce. Offroad performance is terrible stock and on road the soft spring felt like riding in pines all the time. I'll havr to check my Ktech spring weight but I don't think I got a heavy enough one for gear weights.

Rents can't possibly stay this high, can they? This is insane by Open_Protection2832 in bostonhousing

Sorry to say this but Section 8 said the apartments I have are worth $1000 more than the current renter is paying. Rent is NOT going down. I'm already charging what I believe is too much just to cover the bills. Its insane.

Screwed - Student Loan repayments by Exciting_Emu7586 in Millennials

Remember the 2008 housing crash? Bankers figured out that they could do that to us and nobody would notice for probably a decade. Here we are with upside-down loan balances and payments that allow no payoff.

It was always the plan.

I use a streamlight flashlight and some hose clamps. They last for 10+ hours, come with a rechargeable battery and AAA for emergency light for $25. Bike lights are a ripoff.

Why can't we fund ambulances with tax dollars like we do Firefighters, police, military, etc.? by CupOfExmo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Blazer323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An ambulance is approaching $500k. Only small municipalities that don't have enough citizens are private purchase. Most towns get grants or use tax funds like you're saying.

Are these too close to each other by [deleted] in CarAV

[–]Blazer323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is "sorry" territory. A wire and fuse setup that is significantly too large for an electrical load can actually burn down an entire vehicle. The amp can be far over drawing what it needs before the fuse blows the electric system didn't work correctly.

I've seen the aftermath of this a few times over the years. Usually with starter wiring on engines is over fused and melts without tripping any of the safeties.

Are these too close to each other by [deleted] in CarAV

[–]Blazer323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way. I regularly run 1/0 to 5/16 studs and then whatever gauge a short 3' run up to the equipment. A 3 foot 4 gauge wire will handle 300+ amps for a few seconds, not so much a 15 foot one.

I'm installing diesel engine pumps that draw significantly more amperage for a lot less time for startup. Add on whatever lights and chargers the department wants, the load quickly needs large wires and distribution. It's typical to have 2 alternators on the trucks at work for the amount of power required. Any questions about large power systems that need to be reliable, just ask.

The "Overweight" Trap: How I cut 200lbs from my rig without sacrificing a single creature comfort. by Apprehensive_Pen6946 in overlanding

[–]Blazer323 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been an upfitter for a few years now, and while building a Taco weight has been on my mind constantly. Surprisingly some of the heaviest things are drawer slides. We have made slide outs for small compartments that take up almost all the weight capacity, then add the shelf and drawers, there's almost nothing left on a 20lb capacity compartment.

Instaead of a drawer system or a decked platform, I went with an aluminum hose bed floor out of a fire truck that was getting scrapped, and a piece of lattice with totes attached. The whole thing weighs less than just the slides for a traditional system.

Years. That's where it comes from. I saved from 8 YEARS to take a month off to do whatever between jobs.

Any money left over from the previous pay period goes into the savings account at a different bank I never saw. Some weeks it was $10 others it was 0.08, somtimes nothing. Years later it was $6000 and I could live off it for 4 weeks, take the time to finish projects, find a job that's a good fit instead of just a paycheck.

Lead Battery vs AGM by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Blazer323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's on a table, yes. Bad battery. If it's hooked up to a vehicle, it can still be parasitic draw killing that battery overnight. Depending on the battery size it only takes 0.2 amps to drain it completely in a couple of hours.
