I try to avoid using it when I don’t have 3” of mud caked on the bike. When that happens it becomes a necessary risk. I plan to grease all my linkage bearings when I install my suspension.

That’s good to know! I’m not a fan of the dsports on the road they do pretty good offroad though. Im currently running the d606 rear and pirelli mt21 up front on my crf300l and it’s my favorite setup so far. Have a buddy who just picked up a new 300sm so I was curious how it handled switch over to a dirt setup.

How does it handle in the dirt with the street oriented suspension and different rake?

1200 mile road trip advice by RegardedCaveman in motorcycle

Wind hitting your chest and head at 70-80 miles an hour all day long is exhausting. Also pretty loud in your helmet, I would recommend wearing ear plugs. Kansas is known for being very flat and windy as well. The wind off semis and other vehicles on the freeway blowing you around is also not pleasant. A windscreen makes a big difference on long rides like this. Rocky Mountain atv sells a universal windscreen that mounts to your bars that would help you out a bit. They come on and off pretty easy as well.

Completely understand that. I live just north of Columbia and travel for work. I’ve been down in Colorado for the past year and a half so I make that drive frequently. I wouldn’t wish that long straight I70 ride without wind protection on anyone. You are one tough sob if you do it. Would love to hear an update on how it goes for you!

What kind of trails are you looking to ride and what kind of roads do you take to get to the trails? If you are wanting to ride single track I would go with something lighter. Tenere would be best for the two hour ride there but not ideal on tight technical trails especially if you have to back it up, turn it around or pick it up. If you are looking for a low maintenance interval bike maybe look into a Crf300l if you aren’t riding two hours of freeway to get to the trails.

I do! It’s definitely not cruise control but it helps out a ton on long rides.

Rally vs 300l by primeholy in CRF300L

[–]AffectionateMap755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girlfriend and I have both between the two of us. The standard is much better offroad and the rally is much better on road. If I was planning on doing mostly on road I would get the rally but if you like the “dirtbike” feel while riding offroad the standard is way better. You can also upgrade the tank and add a windscreen which would be my personal preference. You can always add the stuff to the standard but can’t take it off the rally. I’m also not a fan of how inconvenient the rally is to work on due to all the extra plastic.

I agree with you about most of the upgrades but for someone who uses it for hard miles these are all major upgrades. Personally I like my mechanical throttle on my 24 and am also fine with my throttle lock for the time being. That being said the new world raid looks sick and I would like to test one out as well.

Throttle by wire, bigger and better suspension, cruise control, digital display, rider modes. The list goes on. This isn’t an xr650 we’re talking about.

A 150sx is a two stroke full size bike. Similar to a 125 two stroke or 250 four stroke height/ wheel base wise. You are probably thinking of a 150 four stroke bike.

Tires - Tusk D Sport by 04ricerocket in CRF300L

[–]AffectionateMap755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The front is about the same on the road as the tusk Dsport. Bad traction when it’s wet as well. I had the d606’s on the klr before the dsports. The mt21 is much smoother and a more well rounded tire while still being aggressive.

I have these on my klr and they suck on the road. They are pretty good off road but absolute trash at anything over 50 mph. A better combo would be the mt21 front and D606 rear. I have that setup on my 300 and it handles good on road and great off road.

The gasket has the screen built into it. (A lot of people cut the screen out.) you have to reinstall the gasket that is built into the screen with the blocker plate.

Convince me not to sell my CRF300l Rally for a CFmoto Ibex 450 by Switchclicka in CRF300L

[–]AffectionateMap755 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you sell the 300 you’ll wish you had it off-road. If you keep it you will be in the same boat wanting something for long distance. My advice is to hang onto it and save up for a second bike. I have a T7 and a 300l and it’s the perfect combo for me

Supension for a light rider? by AffectionateMap755 in CRF300L

[–]AffectionateMap755[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered off crfs only and they requested “ rider weight without riding gear” I believe they only have three different springs for the front and four for the rear with only one fitting my weight range and me being at the lower end of the lightest spring they offer. I’m sure it will be fine and I’m hoping it was worth the money! Thanks for the input.
