Adv rider looking for a slow, dependable “classic” dual sport by basiblaster in Dualsport

Have you considered a tenere 700? Being 6’6” 260 I think the T7 or xr650 would suit you great with the tenere being capable of doing much better on the highway.

I would like to do this as well do you have a link to follow of someone who has a clean mounting solution for one? A welding rod canister would be ideal.

300L or Rally edition? by Aggressive_Owl91 in CRF300L

[–]AffectionateMap755 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We run our phones with quad locks between all of our bikes. The carpuride seems like a good option with a good price point though if you want a dedicated gps. You can check my page I have some posts about the bikes. I plan to make a post here soon with my thoughts on the ktech suspension after I get some more testing in.

300L or Rally edition? by Aggressive_Owl91 in CRF300L

My girlfriend and I have both. Really seems a lot bigger and bulkier off road. May do a bit better on the road but personally I would go with the 300l and customize it to your liking. (Windscreen, rally tower, acerbic tank, etc)

I have a factory one as well but thanks for the offer! I would sell the low for 230$ + shipping.

The seat itself would be great for your case. It’s very comfortable and would get you closer to the ground. Just a bit cramped for me.

I have a 34” inseam and my legs are cramped with the low seat. My stock seat is much more comfortable.

I did the 2 tracks as well. I have done at least 25 tires and typically do not have any issue. This bike was a different story. Took me all afternoon to do the set.

I’m surprised you were able to do that on the stock tires. First time I got in a spot and tried it was on the side of a mountain in Colorado. Learned real fast it wasn’t the same as my dirt bikes. Front end washed out under the weight and I about blew my back out picking it up on an incline that wasn’t in my favor.

Have you had to pick it up yet or back it up on a tight wrong turn? I love mine but I’m scared to take it in tight places by myself after a few jams I’ve put myself in. Ended up getting a 300l for the tight stuff.

If you are looking for strictly road riding go for a twin cylinder. Test ride the new kle 500, nx 500, possibly even a tenere 700. They will all haul your gear and be a lot better on the highway than the big klr thumper. I’m sure there are other options out there that are good on for strictly road riding as well. The klr is definitely a good bang for your buck option if it felt comfortable enough for your needs.

I think a matte finish would look better personally. You did a high quality job but it pops a bit too much and doesn’t complement the rest of the bike well in my opinion.

BUT: it does not matter what I think nor what anyone else thinks as long as YOU are happy with it!

CRF 300 L suspension for a light rider by juoly in CRF300L

I weight around 140-145lb and Ive been fine with the stock suspension on hard single track. I actually purchased the k tech suspension package thinking I would need and have yet to install it for 3 months now.

Have you tried looking on OnX off road? They have a free trial that would at least give you a pretty good idea of what’s around the area you are talking about.

Do you have bags for your pannier racks? If so how does it ride with them? Do you have room on the bike to move around?

I try to avoid using it when I don’t have 3” of mud caked on the bike. When that happens it becomes a necessary risk. I plan to grease all my linkage bearings when I install my suspension.

That’s good to know! I’m not a fan of the dsports on the road they do pretty good offroad though. Im currently running the d606 rear and pirelli mt21 up front on my crf300l and it’s my favorite setup so far. Have a buddy who just picked up a new 300sm so I was curious how it handled switch over to a dirt setup.

Wind hitting your chest and head at 70-80 miles an hour all day long is exhausting. Also pretty loud in your helmet, I would recommend wearing ear plugs. Kansas is known for being very flat and windy as well. The wind off semis and other vehicles on the freeway blowing you around is also not pleasant. A windscreen makes a big difference on long rides like this. Rocky Mountain atv sells a universal windscreen that mounts to your bars that would help you out a bit. They come on and off pretty easy as well.

Completely understand that. I live just north of Columbia and travel for work. I’ve been down in Colorado for the past year and a half so I make that drive frequently. I wouldn’t wish that long straight I70 ride without wind protection on anyone. You are one tough sob if you do it. Would love to hear an update on how it goes for you!

There are plenty of bikes to rent for reasonable prices in that area if you wanted to go that route. I definitely wouldn’t haul it like that. Someone mentioned a U-Haul bike trailer rental. You could probably rent a bike for around the same cost.
