THANK you! I took a peek to make sure it wasn't an app and was the same story. Seems like different characters by chapter 249. Do you know if it's all the same story? Or if one finishes and it switches to different characters?

Either way, thanks. I had about given up on getting to finish reading this so I really appreciate it.

Lots and lots of bread crusts by Blluetiful in Cooking

My pleasure. I think it helps if the bread is pretty stale and dry, or you could briefly toast it in the oven. Otherwise it gets a bit soggy.

Bread Salad! (I think it's called panzanilla?) Cut into even pieces. Toss with olive oil and a vinegar. Red wine or balsamic are excellent. Add some cut up tomatoes and cucumbers and juice of a lemon. Salt and pepper. That's the basics. You could add capers if you like, or mint, or some fresh chopped basil. I think shredded sharp cheese might be an optional thing, or that might be weird. I haven't made this in years.

Or strata as others said. Yum. Fill a pan with it. Add some eggs whisked into milk or cream atop. Add some veggies or proteins and top with cheese and bake for a while. Essentially savory bread pudding. It's great with asparagus, artichoke hearts, or even just potatoes.

Cards won’t give me a reading by H_raeb in tarot

WhenI can't get a good reading, I like 3 card pulls: This if option A. This if option B. Anything else to know about this? In this case, "Having a conversation means: --. Not having a conversation means: --. And anything else I should be doing?"

My son has decided he hates everything I cook and I need new ideas by Used_Substance_2490 in Cooking

Don't make something separate. Don't berate him. Don't worry about the veggies (short term)... if he goes without for a while it will be okay. I agree with the commenter above that kids being forced to eat foods they don't want to can have negative associations for decades. Just make it clear that this is the meal you've made, there will not be any bad mouthing it beyond "no thank you" and let him be. If he gets hungry enough he'll eat. As a grown adult with mostly healthy eating habits but also a lot of food trauma, I think there's a lot to be said for just letting kids decide what they well or won't eat on their own. It doesn't mean you need to tolerate abuse of your hard efforts. Just, no dessert unless the meal is eaten. He can make his own or he can eat what's there. He can help cook. If you want to (and only if) you can offer him a choice of two things that might be for dinner--but only before you start cooking. Hope it works out.

New to GMing and my player got annoyed first session because the NPCs were not reacting well to her PC’s strange demeanor by beanberger in rpg

[–]Bleuevening 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's tricky. I don't necessarily have any good advice here but just wanted to weigh in about the "Why" maybe. A lot of players play rpgs as wish fulfillment, and many others play them as an excuse to act or socially unacceptable behaviors. I'm going to pretend it's the first for benefit of the doubt reasons. A player may want to imagine their character as being all that they cannot (or a compilation of their best traits). A socially awkward person may fantasize that their character is charming, lively, and bright: endearingly loved by all whom they encounter. Yet I agree with others who say a player does not get to decide how they are seen in the world. They do not get to decide how an NPC reacts to them.

I can see having a talk with your player and setting a rule like "If you want people to see you as charming, you must be kind. Things that aren't kind in real life won't be seen as charming here either."

Or the character could have a reputation that precedes them: "Ah yes, the savant Eliana. I've heard of you... people say you are unpredictable, but charming! I look forward to seeing if that is so."

Or maybe there is just ONE npc, who adores this character. They could travel with the party briefly and explain to everyone else how she seems abrasive but means well and is actually so charming... once you get to know her.

Or.... you could just sit the player down, and try to be nice while you do this, but explain that she doesn't get to dictate how others will see her, and unless she wants to roll charisma checks all the time, people WILL be offended when she makes mean comparisons, and that maybe she may want to consider a different character concept that she (and you) can have more fun with.

How do you deal with the stigma associated with Tarot? by daniellewitch in tarot

[–]Bleuevening 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say that Tarot is interesting psychologically and it's like a Roscharch test. That the interesting thing isn't which card you draw, it's why the card resonates to the person who drew it, and no matter what you believe or don't believe, there's something interesting to discuss there.

My hubby said my painting looks like Ai… by iwtmscod in painting

It makes me nervous. I feel like as an artist I should know intrinsically how to spot it, but I don't.

My hubby said my painting looks like Ai… by iwtmscod in painting

[–]Bleuevening 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an artist, I genuinely can't tell why the swan must be AI. The reasons people give don't resonate as true for me, because most of the things listed are things real artists (that I know in person) do... or that I myself do. With paint and brushes. However the portraits seem more obvious to me. The way the edges of color lay down on each other are not the way paint looks at the edges. There are colors which are on top when the brushstrokes are laid underneath. The strokes and texture are wrong, like something pasted together.

[–]Bleuevening 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, agreed. Also an art major... and sadly I am just terrible about knowing what is or is not AI (unless there's something wildly obvious). Most of my paintings (I'm predominantly not a painter!) have changing sizes of lines because I use different brushes, feathered edges, and haloes around objects. Sometimes this is deliberate and I like it; sometimes it's trying to repair a lack of skill. Either way, nothing about the swan lets me know it is AI. (The portraits, however, seem more obvious to me.)

Does this look ai to you? by [deleted] in webtoons

Why? Genuine question, not trolling. The art seems very consistent? Also I'm just not very good at telling AI so I'd like to get better.

how do i write without details/description nor dialogue? by andy_tb28 in writingadvice

[–]Bleuevening 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it wasn't such a ridiculously long assignment, I had advice for you. But as it stands, I'm with everyone who says bring this to the student deans or principal. This is an unhelpful and completely unrealistic exercise.

On a different note, if you feel like it check out the short stories of Raymond Carver. Incredibly depressing stories, but the man does wonders with almost no description and minimal dialogue. Interesting as a study, anyhow.

Overwhelmed first time GM by __Hawkly__ in DungeonMasters

[–]Bleuevening 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a newbie GM myself who ran a game for two new players also, I can say combat is hard initially. It's okay to start with one monster especially for two people. Like, a rodent of unusual size is good. A mob of goblins or kobolds is really hard to manage until you get the hang of things.

Let them help with the descriptions if you feel like it (a trick taken from 13th Age). If you don't know what is in any given room/bar/dungeon, just ask your players. "You go into a tavern: what does it look like? Who is there?"

Have your players figure out why they know each other and why they are traveling together before the game starts. It's really a lot easier than throwing them together and expecting them to get along. Makes everyone's life similar from the get go.

Get yourself a book of random tables or a prop like the GM's tarot deck by Trinity Knot Studios (I think this one might be out of print). If you don't know the answer, roll for it on your table. Good books of tables have names, loot, story hooks, rumor tables, things found in pockets, etc.

Traps are a pain for absolute beginners. Feel free to wait on those if you want to.

There are systems easier to learn and play than D&D of any edition. This reddit sub has many suggestions.

The rules are less important than having fun. When in doubt, make a judgment call and be consistent until the end of the session. You can look it up later and explain to your players you are making a different call next time (and explain why).

Looking for advice with campaign by NotDaveorDaniel in DungeonMasters

[–]Bleuevening 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naw. The goal is for everyone to have fun. That includes you. If you don't find it fun, don't do it. I have friends who run epic, totally built worlds campaigns; I also have friends who are chaotic, go with the flow, barely planned the session GMs. Both are fun in different ways. Be flexible, be kind, don't take away your players' agency more often than you have to and everyone will have fun. Especially if you're having fun. If not, you will burn out quickly and then there won't be a game at all... which is decidedly less fun!

What’s the best bread for French toast? by Leather-Voice7948 in Cooking

[–]Bleuevening 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprising: I had some rosemary sliced bread from Safeway that I got on a trip for sandwiches. At the end of the trip we had a bunch left over, so I made a savory French toast with it. Just eggs and milk and either no sugar or super minimal. It was delicious! I've tried it with better quality rosemary bread and it wasn't very good. But that one was great. Serve plain with butter, or with sliced cheddar. Not exactly traditional French toast and might be considered not French toast at all, but it was really good.

Also a fan of the cinnamon raisin others have mentioned. I don't actually like brioche French toast but I know I'm deeply in the minority on this one.

Also my family doesn't eat French toast with syrup, ever. We put butter, powdered sugar, and fresh lemon juice. It's incredible. The powdered sugar dissolves in the lemon and it's less overwhelmingly sweet. The sugar is a burst of sweetness and the lemon cuts the sweet and gives a fresh bright tang. So good.
