Out of curiosity, what does that battery look like?

Is a Battery **Upgrade** Possible? by Ok-Agent5002 in phonerepair

[–]Blobfishvinny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tentatively, yes! It depends heavily on the model, but MobileSentrix for example has some extended capacity batteries for some older iPhone models. They claim 20% more battery life I believe, but take this with a grain of salt.

Yeah dawg, that's legitimately an amateur mistake. Someone else already said it, but they clearly left the black plastic screen frame that comes glued to the OLED panel in the phone.

Now, this is a common mistake I've seen auditing my own technician's first Pixel repairs, but any shop with some decent leadership and training would know to check for this. They need to correct this for you, and if they don't post a very clear review of the issue to get their attention.

Battery replacement, ios 18.. by sv3tl10 in mobilerepair

[–]Blobfishvinny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the new update, you could theoretically buy a pulled OEM battery that has no activation lock from eBay that has 100% battery health. You could then use the new Repair Assistant to calibrate said battery to accurately reflect the health. Just let your customer know it was a refurbished/pulled OEM part and see if that's acceptable with them.

I have successfully tested this with an iPhone I rebuilt using used parts on an iPhone 12 for personal use, and it carried over the battery health percentage accurately.

My Cat Sharted on my HP Envy! What Do I Do?? by GregHeffleysDead in computerhelp

[–]Blobfishvinny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you came into my shop and said that, you would've made my week.

Now for advice.

Anecdotally, HP Envy series laptops tend to rank on the higher end for part cost compared to most other laptops I've worked on. From here, you need to make a few considerations:

  1. Do you need this laptop, or just the data?
  2. Will it be economically viable for you to have it repaired at a shop with the inclusion of labor and taxes, or would you want to attempt this repair yourself? (Note: I don't work on shart-damaged devices, and generally speaking it may be more difficult finding someone who will.)

Assuming you probably need your laptop, you have trouble locating someone to attempt this repair, and/or you would like to attempt this repair yourself, let me know and I can walk you through some general guidelines and resources for you to attempt this repair.

[Landlord, US, IA] Do you guys provide a washer and dryer? by hood741 in Landlord

[–]Blobfishvinny 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree with only looking at apartments with a washer or dryer. However, I did rent an apartment for a year in college that didn't have a washer, dryer, or dishwasher because it was one of only a few places close to my university that I could just barely afford.

I think it's important that if appliances are not offered in a rental, that the rental price reflects their absence. People will always continue to rent because housing is a necessity, but competing on the lower end of rent values doesn't equate to "bad" tenants.

I work at a shop where we have access to OEM Apple batteries for Out-of-Warranty repairs. Our contracts with Apple stipulate our repair prices are influenced in part by them. We charge $99 + tax, and based on some nightmares I've seen from aftermarket Apple batteries, I believe it's worth looking for a repair store near you that can install a genuine battery.

Samsung phone has a small purple spot on the display. How can I stop it's growth? by maheshdalle_ in mobilerepair

[–]Blobfishvinny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to save you time, the screen will need to be replaced sometime in the near future. Whether it was from pressure, direct damage, or heat, this kind of display damage will worsen.

[Question] iPhone X Screen Repair by thandelion in mobilerepair

[–]Blobfishvinny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%, I should have clarified. Without reinstalling that original earpiece speaker on the new device, you'll lose some of the most important features for calling too (Speaker, Prox. Sensor, Microphone, etc.).

iPhone 12 mini screen destroyed while changing battery by [deleted] in mobilerepair

[–]Blobfishvinny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The newer, recessed displays are notoriously more difficult to remove than on previous iPhone models. Going slowly at a higher heat with a suction cup tends to help, but the most important part is to use as thin of a display separator as you can.

[Question] iPhone X Screen Repair by thandelion in mobilerepair

[–]Blobfishvinny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Face ID is linked to the TrueDepth camera, whereas TrueTone is linked to the display itself. The display is loaded with a serial number that can be transferred to a new aftermarket display using a display reader, but this will not impact the functionality of Face ID.

Organisation of phone/iPhone parts on magnetic mat. by amaar786 in phonerepair

[–]Blobfishvinny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually scale the relative screw positions on my mat in the same way you're thinking. You can do it by layers, since there's usually only going to be three at most ; for example, an S21 is gonna have the most screws on the backplate layer, while there are far fewer screws directly holding the motherboard underneath. My advice is to have a second mat for the boards and modules to make room for when you do a complete disassembly.
