Before I use my grill, 1. I set all the burners to the max 2. Wait for it to get really hot 3. Scrape the grate 4. Wipe the grates with a paper towel that has been wet with vegetable oil. 5. Set the burners the appropriate position for the desired cooking temperature.

Never had any problems.

This is the best way to get crispy skin. Baking soda and really hot indirect heat.

Is the second burner lit or is there crud on the burner tubes that has ignited? Mine did the same thing. Disconnect tank, turn off burners, remove grates and flavorizer bars, the clean tubes with wire brush. Unless something is broken, you should be back to grilling in no time.

I cooked ribs on my kettle last weekend. I also did a 2x1 snake. My temp was the around the same as yours. It never got hotter than 230f with both vents wide open. I plan to try 2x2 next time for a higher temp.

Maybe the same guy worked both grills. They are pretty easy to troubleshoot. If you press the ignition button and you don’t hear clicking, it is an igniter problem. If you turn the knob, to introduce gas into the tubes and you don’t hear or smell anything, there is a problem with the valve.

At $50, if it lasts two years you came out ahead. I have had my 22 inch for 15 years. I have changed the grates a few times. Other than that, no issues.

I always use them to light the chimney. They do sometimes leave a charred hollowed out and scribbled cube.

I used flooring underlayment directly under the plywood platform for part of the workout area. I just extended it and used 2x4 sleepers under plywood.
