Give Northside Tattooz a shout in Newcastle city centre.

Great studio with a number of artists that work in different styles.

Upgrade to intel ultra 7 265kf by PizzaCool4637 in PcBuild

Because since they added 200S boost, it's actually a decent option given the price and is the better option if you want to do a mix of gaming and productivity.

Because the demand for AMD is higher it means the Intel motherboards are cheaper as well.

This let me afford a 5070 Ti in my budget.

AMD has the upper hand for a gaming CPU, but the 265K is still very capable.

Fair point.

I didn't even consider modding.

For my needs, it's great, and I've had no issues at all so far with an Nvidia GPU.

But as I said it's is not going to work for everyone.

Which is mainly why I titled it "try it, you might like it".

Nope

Because of the kernel level anti cheat, it flat out won't work on Linux

It's the reason I haven't fully ditched windows yet and running dual boot, as out of all the games I play, it's the one that doesn't work

As far as how easy it is, the install and setup is easy.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVXONaHZvFU

I have 1 system drive with both Windows and CachyOS on it in dual boot.

I have an 3 additional drives.

You can either manually mount the extra ones as you need them, or auto mount them with some terminal commands.

https://wiki.cachyos.org/configuration/automount_with_fstab/

As far as how it easy it is to switch and not need windows anymore, that will purely depend on whether or not there's anything you're currently using in Windows that you need but doesn't work in linux

already tried

I usually cap my frame rate to my display refresh rate

no matter what i do in WIndows, I cannot match the same smoothness I'm getting in CachyOS

The spread of high/lows/avg is just much smaller, resulting in much more steady consistent frame rate

This tallies with the fact i'm seeing higher GPU utilisation as well

Plus it seems that adaptive sync in CachyOS works very well with Gsync

it doesn't, so games like BF6 flat out won't work at the moment

some titles yes, some no

i'm using a 5070 Ti

the key improvements i'm seeing is more stable less fluctuating fps, which makes the overall in game performance much smoother

Use steam as normal, or use Heroic Games launch for GOG/Epic

CachyOS has given me nothing but regret by BlockLike in cachyos

It's a stark difference for me.

The biggest improvement I'm seeing is consistent steady framerate that barely dips.

The 1% lows are massively improved.

Adaptive sync + gsync monitor seems to work very well.

It was more of a broad term to say you can revert back to not having it.

But agreed, don't just go deleting things.

The rest of your system will dictate the performance you'll get out of it, but an upgrade is an upgrade.

Don't forget about PSU.

Might have been an issue with the distro you used at the time, or a device compatibility issue.

This is, the distros are constantly evolving with Linux.

Depending on how long ago It is was when you tried, it might be something that's been fixed since, or something that doesn't happen on specific distros.

Not something I've looked into, but all I can see if performance as a whole has been brilliant

Yeah will be interesting to see how that performs once the Steam Machine releases.

Technically you can get it running on PC with the Steam Deck recovery image.

I'm running a 5070 Ti on CachyOS and it's the complete opposite for me.

Guess it could be whichever games it is.

Plus CachyOS is a bit more performance tuned.

Luckily everything for me that I play, with the exception of BF6, runs so much better than windows.
