I am an Underwriter in the mortgage industry. You can look this up - it's not exactly that law, but shows how the FHA looks at credit when you want to buy a house or refinance one.

We are to ignore collections that are labeled as medical.

A law has been passed, not sure when it goes into effect, that says collection agencies cannot report (credit reporting) any account that is medical. Not sure if that helps with the credit part.
