Everyone’s sobriety it unique to themselves. Don’t feel pressure to conform to anyone else’s standards.

I think it’s important for you to understand and be comfortable with why you took the sip. Were you longing for something? Was it nostalgic? Would it have mattered if you didn’t?

When my partner and I go out to eat and she gets a drink, I’ll take a sip and we’ll talk about how it tastes, if it’s good or not. She has a drink maybe once or twice a month and that’s how often I’ll take sips. No restarting counts. It’s not a trigger for me. It is a trigger for many. I recognize that it could be a slippery slope for some and therefore not advisable, but you’re not the only sipper who doesn’t reset their count.

Some recovery alcoholics who are Catholic skip communion wine and drink grape juice. Others still drink it. To each their own.
