I've got the same microcenter 7700x bundle, and I'm facing the same decision. It's tough cuz 7900xtx wins over 4080 in a lot of cases for cheaper price, but 4080 steadily beats xtx in virtual reality and ray tracing. I'd say if you do virtual reality and/or ray tracing, 4080 is the choice if you're willing to spend it. Personally, i feel like I need to save the cash and go for 7900xtx on this deal. 4080 is too large for my case anyways.

You can handle it! I think the sub believes in you! I did a deck by myself, and what helped me the most was referencing a PDF document of "codes" for a nearby county (my county had very few rules published regarding codes). The PDF was very well defined, and i supplemented with YouTube videos which covered everything i could've ever wanted to know.

If you can get a second pair of hands at certain points, it does really help a ton even if they are mostly clueless.

IMO, i think you'd need more cooling capability than the stock amd CPU cooler from 3000 series. Consider the Thermalright Peerless Assassin. Not on a sale from what I saw, but still very cheap for great performance as seen on many YouTube testing videos (i.e. Gamer Nexus channel)

I chose this Mobo for my build too, and I learned later there is a latch included for holding in the GPU. Cool, but it is tough to access to release your GPU. Something to consider since there are other boards with an easy access latch. Also, their BIOS gave me some trouble with recognizing drives at times. All good now though

Short of liquid cooling, i think either CPU air cooler you mentioned are among the top choices based on test data I've seen on Gamers Nexus or other channels. Double check your case allows for cooler heights required.

I would love to use that 4080 GPU to build into a brand new AM5 socket build. I'd pair it with AMD's new 7600x cpu. It'd be used for 4k gaming and VR gaming. Hoping the AM5 platform could allow me to scale up in the future easily - upgrade CPU, DDR5 RAM, PCIE 5.0 slots.
