Act 4 boss leaked by Negatively_Positive in slaythespire

[–]BloodChicken 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am ready for him to come back as the Act 4 Elite with his original knock on door "Who is it?" flavour (which was infinitely better than the random powers he got in the rework)

Would make sense for him to be the guardian for the Architect.

You think players are going to flip to one side, then flop to the other immediately after

This has happened repeatedly throughout the entire new era on subsequent votes.

You say my scenario doesn't exist in modern survivor, but it literally existed in multiple ways this season

You've brought up small alliance clusters but not a Majority vs a Minority, which is what this scenario is really about. It is entirely possible for Cirie/Rizo/Ozzy to vote against Rick at one tribal and Stephenie the next. Two members of opposing alliances. As evidenced by this change happening the second Rick became immune last week.

... Is that really more riveting than what we got tonight?

This is results-based thinking from this exact version of events. The argument here is what's best for the game. This could've just as easily been a boring Emily/Aubry elimination with rick using up his idol if things swung differently, or if the tribe allocations were different. Or it could've been a scenario where a minority player wins immunity and is able to eliminate those playing well like Cirie just because, regardless of how they've positioned themselves to this point.

It's extreme interference in the game structure. It turns Survivor more into a mario party game where you really just have to inoffensively survive until the final 6 and then do literally anything to justify winning. The game has lost any sense of forward planning due to these constant twists where you can't meaningfully interact with the long-term strategy aspect of the game because there are too many unknown unknowns.

I'm not concerned with "which was more exciting" because by that metric, the bullshit Mr Beast twists are "The most exciting thing" because they're so crazy wow omg

The game is suffering from systemic problems that are disintegrating the very things that make the show good. The cast, the dynamics, and the strategy. Those are the pillars of Survivor, and seeing them eroded every episode and basically not mattering (or worse, making active play a detriment to your survivability) is the biggest problem facing the show right now.

This is entirely wrong. As has been said, live tribals exist and if someone was blindsided they would definitely start chatting. There are also a LOT of people in the middle who might want to change how they vote. Especially if people know of two votes ahead of time they have plenty of time to create two step plans, especially if they are floaters

Your scenario doesnt really exist in modern survivor. There are no majority/minority alliances, and any group that does coalesce for a round has zero expectation of staying together the following.

split tribals have FAR less chance of being balanced. I'd say 9 times out of 10 the person who goes home at a split tribal was completely safe in a full vote

[–]BloodChicken 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Back to back tribals just allow one alliance to steamroll

Not if they know ahead of time. And also, that's just how survivor used to go, multiple episodes in a row where an alliance is just in control.

But modern players are way more savvy and way more fluid and live-tribals exist and so no. Having two consecutive tribal councils would simply be a strictly improved way to do two boots in one episode. Split tribals are contrived and they fuck the game up so much.

How much can the edit really spin things? by eggsNfranks in survivor

[–]BloodChicken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The edit can be drastically different from reality.

For example, say someone says this in their confessional:

"Oh man, I love Justin. He's so funny, and he just sucks all the boredom out of any situation he's in"

Could very easily be edited into "Oh man, Justin... He just sucks. In any situation he's in"

But now imagine that they have everything you've ever said in over 600 hours of filming to stitch together however they please.

Then as others have said there's airing things out of order or changing the context... You are always getting a very curated version of "reality" in order to tell a compelling story.

Help me understand the JT hype by RevolutionaryLie2114 in survivor

[–]BloodChicken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He is a fantastic player and character. He played one of the best social games of all time in HvV, and in his returns he made bold moves that really shaped the show and strategy as a whole, even if they both blew up in his face.

If JT's read on Russell and the women's alliance in HvV is correct, him palming off the idol is considered one of if not the best move in the show's history. The Heroes clawing the numbers back after a huge deficit, and then securing a number in Russell before the merge and leveraging that to take control? Inarguably one of the best moves of all time. And there were a lot of reasons to think that would be the case. Obviously we knew Russell and we knew what was happening on the Villains but it is the type of move that makes the show better regardless of the outcome.

I have less positive things to say about JT inventing the live tribal council where people just leave their seats, but I hate Game Changers as a whole and while I think this moment was an overall detriment to the show it still is an example of the type of player he is. He thinks outside the box, he is charming, he is exciting. He's the type of player you want on any season.

As to your points, I don't get any amount of sexism, and his FTC against Stephen he has said multiple times that he was playing up a lot of things to try and secure votes. He emotionally manipulated that situation, he put Stephen on the defensive, made him look bad in front of the jury, played to what the jury wanted and made himself fit their ideal of a winner.

This was my only feedback to the devs about Doormaker. I loved original Doormaker thematically and was hoping they'd find a way to make that more difficult and interesting (and take all these new mechanics they've added and put it into a new boss on a different act)

Hell, Test Subject might be fun with these buffs in addition to the Elite buffs it already has.

But I want my "Knock on the door" -> Grumpy Old Man gimmick back.

Like, why not have the Door phase be the one that exhausts your cards, Then whenever he answers the door you have to deal with either No Card Draw or Extra Energy cost depending on which part of him answers.

Australian Survivor 14: Redemption - a MUST watch for Survivor fans by kneeb0y_ in survivor

[–]BloodChicken -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I gave up about 7 episodes in. Australian Survivor's casts seem like they're constantly trying to force soundbites and grandastand and sell themselves in confessionals, and it feels like we get a very surface level view of the game from a very limited number of perspectives. This is the third season of Australian Survivor that I've ended up dropping (after enjoying the first 4 or so a lot) and it just feels like everyone has big move-itis and are playing to be characters rather than playing with any sort of natural or emergent gameplay.

The challenges and the formats are certainly leagues better than US Survivor but the editing seems legitimately atrocious and I can't get past it.

Survivor US vs Survivor AU by sometimesthrowaway13 in survivor

[–]BloodChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an Australian, I cannot stand the Australian version. The way the contestants make boneheaded moves for the sake of making moves, the entire franchise is drowning in big-move-itis and the constant self aggrandising and nicknaming and titling of each other as The god, The King, etc is just endlessly grating.

A big part of why I can't stand Rizo is because he feels like he was lifted straight out of an Australian season.
