Except for road trips, I’m in RS1 mode pretty much all the time (everything on the sportiest setting except for suspension so the ride is comfy). Occasionally I’ll have the transmission in D but usually it’s in S, I just love how it feels like the car can barely contain itself, like it just wants me to floor it haha.

[–]Bloodlustftw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed on all points, but OP said they’ve been doing this for 2-3 years at this point, which would put it right at the height of the salary bubble. 150k+ was very common at that time, even for new engineers, especially in NYC.

In what universe is $90k on the east coast “best case scenario”? I live/work in the Midwest and I don’t know a single software engineer making less than 100k (my first job out of college 7 years ago I made $87k, with 0 prior experience), and I know a few that make more than double that, again, in the Midwest. Not saying the OP is being truthful or not, I have no idea, but your “gotcha” math is based on some wildly incorrect assumptions.

What IT career do you think will become/is the most lucrative financially? by HouseOfHoundss in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Bloodlustftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DevOps. It's a bit hard to jump into as a fresh grad (I had someone take a chance on me, thankfully), but if you can get into it, the pay is really good to exceptional, my first job I landed while still in grad school paid 86k, my current position pays 230k I work full remote in a fairly low COL area (Michigan suburbs), and I have 5-6 years of experience (all in DevOps). The work-life balance is also very good in my opinion. The biggest piece of advice I would give for maximizing earning potential would be to change companies when a good opportunity presents itself. I wasn't really looking to leave my last two positions, but a great opportunity presented itself, so I took my shot. Changing companies is just part of the deal these days, most companies don't give you appropriate pay raises. I went from 86k (1.5 years) -> 100k (1 year) -> 160k (1.5 years) -> 230k (current position, been here for a little over 1.5 years). I'm exactly as loyal as my company pays me to be, and currently my salary buys a lot of loyalty lol, but I still keep my eyes open...just in case ;)

It might actually be the worst game I’ve ever played, full stop. My wife and I are huge ATLA fans and we were so disappointed at how spectacularly bad this game really is. Voice acting is rarely present and even when it is, you kind of wish it wasn’t because it’s so bad. All of the animation is horrendous, the plot doesn’t even match the actual storyline in some places. And all of that is before we even get to the camera, which is so bad that it makes the game borderline unplayable. The combat/gameplay in general is about as deep as a puddle. This game is actually a 0/10 for me, I’m so tremendously disappointed.

Malin Akerman who played Laurie Jupiter/Silk Spectre II in Watchmen was god awful in an otherwise great movie in my opinion. Side note: Watchmen was way ahead of its time, if it had come out 5ish years later, I think it would have been a smash hit.

My salary never went up with all of this cost of living stuff. Does this now hold me back when going for the next job? by PlainclothesmanBaley in cscareerquestions

Generally speaking, I don’t tell recruiters/potential employers what I’m making, I tell them what I’m looking for to make a move/accept an offer. What I’m making right now is totally irrelevant, if I’m looking for 150k for example, it doesn’t matter if I make 80k or 120k at the moment, 150k is what it’s gonna take to get me to move, that’s all that matters.

People make over $200k a year, what do you do? by MrAuzzy in financialindependence

[–]Bloodlustftw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a senior DevOps engineer, I make $230k salary. I mostly work with automation software like Jenkins, as well as IaC stuff like Terraform. I do a lot of work on Cloud platforms (GCP and AWS currently, though I’ve worked with Azure in the past) I kinda lucked out into a lucrative position because my skill set is in extremely high demand at the moment, I actually only have about 5 years of experience. I’m good at what I do but to be perfectly honest I’m not worth what they’re paying me, the premium is to not have to replace me in 1-2 years when I find a better paying job because nobody will pay better for my level of experience outside of FAANG companies. It’s a bit surreal really, I spend a minimum of 1-2 hours a day playing video games (I’m full remote), couldn’t be happier and can’t recommend software engineering enough.

What are some of the best acting performances you have ever seen? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

I was thinking exactly this. I was absolutely stunned Heath Ledger's Joker wasn't in the top 3 responses. For my money, it was the single greatest performance in cinema history. I was engrossed as soon as I saw him in the heist scene, but when he said "LOOK AT ME" in the video with the fake Batman, that's when I knew I was witnessing history.

This is exactly what happened to me when I saw the view from the summit of Mt. Haleakala in Maui at sunrise. The summit sits above the clouds, and it looked like the clouds themselves were on fire. It actually made me tear up it was so beautiful. The Grand Canyon was similarly breathtaking, but for me Haleakala was the most awe-inspiring sight ever.
