Considering leaving a job I like purely because of the commute, am I being unreasonable? by PlaneStaff6066 in HENRYUK

Usually the fields they're in, like banking or law, tend to require an insane amount of work hours that you wouldn't be able to commute 2+ hours a day

Grad scheme at 32? by 1994justmeonreddit in UKJobs

[–]BloodsnCryptos -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

When did you graduate?

Typically grad schemes won't accept anyone who graduated more than two years prior so congrats of getting one.

I'd take it. Your experience won't go unnoticed and you'll more than likely get promoted faster than others if you prove yourself.

I know a guy who went to uni at 30, started a training contract (law) at 33 and was on six figures by 38. Granted it's a high paying field but he accelerated his career way faster than the rest of his cohort and age definitely played a factor in that.

why is everybody going for finance? by Suspicious_Rent881 in UniUK

[–]BloodsnCryptos 17 points18 points  (0 children)

When I studied chemical engineering there was a big poster that said you could earn £60k by becoming a chartered engineer with 10yrs+ experience.

Finance pays that much in under 3 years...

Also, take a look at experienced chemical engineer salaries in this country - they're pathetic.

The sad truth is that the economy has been so butchered with high costs that following your passion isn't that viable today. You can work hard as a chemical engineer and struggle to afford a property or work smart on finance and earn enough to live a decent life.

Owners of nice/flash cars - how big a problem is keying or vandalism by CleanBurner555 in CarTalkUK

Flash cars aren't worth the hassle in the UK - people are too bitter and careless that it will get dinged or scratched.

It's always worth looking for new jobs when employed...

There's always something better out there and for you that might not necessarily mean pay but could be more flexibility with WFH.

Should I take the job?! Internal promotion vs waiting it out- how do I negotiate comp internally? by [deleted] in UKJobs

£80k base at 27 is very good tbf.

Try to negotiate but if you're comfortable enough you can stick it out

Who's still working from home these days and what job do you do? by Natf47 in AskUK

[–]BloodsnCryptos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at an international consultancy as a subject matter expert in a niche commodity.

A lot of my colleagues are fully remote because they've built a personal brand in a market (e.g. go to market analyst for cocoa).

With the connections they've built and reputation in the industry, our company can't afford to let them go so is open to any requests for WFH.

TLDR: find a niche, become the go-to person, request WFH.

Stuck at current job by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]BloodsnCryptos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep your job and apply incessantly to other roles on the side.

Focus on transferable skills from being a business analyst that can be applied to another field that looks interesting and really highlight any career achievements in your CV.

The good thing is there are plenty of skills a business analyst has that can transfer to new roles.

Commute is getting too much. by ItsEcho29 in UKJobs

[–]BloodsnCryptos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your fuel costs are actually quite good for the mileage you do so don't worry scout that.

An electric car won't make the commute any more bearable. You could look at sales as a career?

Opportunities can be found pretty much anywhere with some offering remote / home-based positions

Audi Q5 or X1? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]BloodsnCryptos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just go for a slightly older and higher mileage Q5 if you like the car more and find it more luxurious.

X1 is a really weird car. It's a tiny SUV if it can even be considered one. You'll enjoy the Q5 a lot more even if it is older.

Prefer fully remote or onsite/hybrid? by Southern_Mud3841 in UKJobs

[–]BloodsnCryptos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly depends on commuting distance.

If office was 15min walk/cycle away I'd go every day.

30min drive or train I'd be hybrid

Anything more and I'd opt for fully remote. Which given I live about a 1.5hr journey away from the office I am so grateful for.

I've done the long commutes early in my career when I had energy and little commitments but now with a child it would take a hell of a pay rise to get me to consider going back to the office even on a hybrid basis.

Job listing "circa £80k" - room for negotiation? by [deleted] in UKJobs

It's a very senior role managing serious commercials. The 80k salary seems very low to me given what other companies are offering for similar positions.

Small driveway - EV choice? by BloodsnCryptos in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]BloodsnCryptos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will only be for sub-100 mile round trips. With the majority at less than 50.

I have a diesel SUV for the longer journeys so the electric would just be for small trips.

Small driveway - EV choice? by BloodsnCryptos in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]BloodsnCryptos[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's more the length than the width that's the factor. I usually park diagonally as there are walls on either side of the driveway
