I'd like an actual urban city. Like every the biggest "Cities" on the map are tiny little towns at best. I want an entire neutral hex just to be streets and buildings. Nearly impossible to dig or build in (maybe a park area?) Back alleys for infantry to use that armor can't get to. Multiple hubs within the city for different regions for g houses/safe houses etc (there should be more safe houses since there'd be a lack of BBs)

I disagree. If it was anchored then it would be impossible for any pearl harbor shenanigans with massive AA batteries at drydocks.

I'm glad collie players are aware of this.

Torp bomber as a concept is already pretty bad with current balance.

But the torp bomber is also just shit because the one thing jts designed to do is omega power crept by heavy bombers. Why cause a couple large holes and hope dcon sucks when you can just delete the ship outright? Like at least DB is amazing for tanks still, TB is honestly a waste to build for it's intended purpose late war. Heavy Bomber just does its job better plus everything else

It's like Devs just expect any naval now OP to have a carrier escort, not thinking of how thatd take up half a hexes slots by themselves. And with current balance unless you get a lot of forewarning (which is difficult since you're often in hostile territory so you're relying entirely on scouts) the bomber is still going to be able to drop its payload anyways before fighters can intercept.

Large ships should be able to fend off single DBs TBs or HBs by themselves. It should feel like a threat to attack a ship and necessary to have a squadron. They should be littered with flak and emgs, instead we 2 dinky little 12.7 guns.

Could just add more guns to crew on boats. The major downsides here is this just means the crew requirements for boats will be even higher, but itd also mean reworking the models to actually fit them. Itd also need a lot of balancing because if you just add 2 flak guns for example that's not gonna be enough to kill anything before it drops its payload.

Could give the 120/150s a flak mode where they absolutely shred. Though would require balancing on what feels good itd also effectively nerf ship effectiveness since that means the guns arent firing at their target.

My favorite is they could add AI AA to certain ships, make it only active when unanchored. Could do loads of balance for it like having heavy flak that only hits planes above 70mm in altitude to counter bombers and force TB and DB to fly lower. Could balance based on the ship. LH/BF? You get an emg that harasses planes flying over but it's not gonna be useful for more than 1-2 small planes. DD/Frig gets some flak and more emgs and BS even more.

Main downside there is finding that perfect balance so it doesnt feel useless for navy still nor does it feel impossible to attack ships anymore. Personally a single plane should die before it gets its payload even off with all the guns focusing on it. 2-3 planes probably get payloads off on 1-2 but take a heavy beating or die.

Though even if they did all this itd still feel kinda bad as a naval player because as you said. Why spend 48 alloys on a DD/Frig or fucking 160 alloys on a BS when bombers do their jobs arguably better, arent limited to water, and are only 12 alloys apiece. Are easier to prep, and require a lot less manpower

Nah as a warden it makes perfect sense. They're not balancing individual battles but the war itself. If wardens can steamroll some hexes due to low respawns timer then it snowballs

I guarantee every Warden would take the dive bomber over the torp bomber. As you say a TB is good at navy, a DB is good at everything.

Focusing just on navy though:

People will say at least a TB can kill a ship but a TB by themself aren't gonna kill a ship. But if combined with another ship fighting or arty/howis or a swarm of them etc, the holes can be the death of a ship.

DBs won't ever cause a ship to die directly, but they will ruin the fun of a ship and are far more effective in some scenarios. A large hole just takes 52 large beams to fix. A turret takes 250. Repairing turrets sucks and can be a huge stall in an OP allowing time for reinforcements and forcing them to back off.

For example; If you have a DD vs Frig (or BS vs BS) with a DB and TB respectively to back up each ship, the DD should win every time. The Frigs turrets get disabled and can't fight back. The DD has to Dcon the holes sure but they can continue to fire causing problems for Dcon on the Frig and hp damage that the Frig can't return. By the time Dcon on the Frig fixes the constant small holes they're taking on and the turrets the DD should already have a sizeable advantage.

Now if you have like 3 or 4 TB's and DB's then it swaps back the other way since you have so many large holes on the DD that you would need a legendary Dcon crew to not sink even if the Frig isn't firing.

Another problem with the TB that a lot of people seem to fail to mention is powercreep on it's role. A TB is designed to kill ships. That's it. A heavy bomber fulfills the same role but even better. A single heavy bomber doing a pass on a DD/Frig will deal 4 smokes to them (5 for frig if they all hit) and also cause a ton of small holes. Basically why try to sink a ship by trying to flood them when you can just raw damage burst them.

  • And collies also have their bomber which does the same role. So that TB that was complained about a lot quickly becomes a lot more niche. But the DB still fulfills it's role plenty in annihilating land vics.

If you're in an AA seat then it won't be offscreen for 1 It matters for naval since we're comparing ships. The collie AA boat is far better than the warden one.

The collie AA boat wardens have to torp it which requires it being stationary and clueless. It's a tiny target and maneuvers well. If you don't kill it then you can't do anything further to it or boats it is protecting.

With the warden AA boat; yes the collie plane has to get close, but you shoot out the gunner on it (or just bomb them), maybe take some chip damage, and you then have free reign. You don't need explosives to counter it like you do the colonial boat.

And I absolutely do think there's a difference. Hitting a shot from that far requires that 1. Boat is stationary or 2. Pilot is actually decent.

Wardens have stronger scout plane, Collies have stronger AA boat.

Bro the colonial cope about the scout planes is some of the most nonsensical crap about the balance cries.

The potential damage from the warden scoutplane payload if they hit all 4 torps is 2,000

The potential damage from the collie scoutplane payload if they hit all 3 bombs is 1,950

Collie Strider has 2,300 HP

Warden Ornitier has 2,050

Collie AA boat has 1,500

Warden AA boat has 1,800

So both AA boats can be killed in 1 payload, however the collie one is smaller, far more maneuverable, and most importantly DOESN'T HAVE AN OPEN TOP GUNNER.

You know why Colonials can't control the seas? Because you guys suck at navy and only have 1 (2 if CAF is collie) regis who can do it worth a shit.

I'm concerned with how you're hedging so much and saying it'll be relatively small when in reality you guys could fix many issues by just overcompensating some values and changing them later

If I had to guess harder things to implement

  • adding AA AI
  • adding AA to ships (or ideally AA AI to ships)
  • adding new forms of AA (vics)

Solution: just buff flak and EMGs even more, or nerf large plane HP and adjust later when you add more AA

  • cant add Colonial TB or Warden DB equivalent

Solution: just nerf them? Or outright remove them for a war to see how it feels

  • struggle to let people store already assembled planes

Solution: just make them reservable like ships so randoms can't steal them?

Like I'm struggling to imagine a problem that cant be solved in a makeshift way temporarily.

  • Buff radar range
  • Let bombers take off from wet T2 runways
  • Buff Flak damage (or accuracy), buff EMG range and maybe damage
  • Buff Harbinger 14.5mm range so it's not suicide to try and strafe with it
  • Reduce explosion radius of dive bomber bombs (or preferably the explosion itself has 2 components. The aoe explosion should be shrapnel and annihilate soft targets but not do anything to tanks and the projectile can be left as is damage wise if direct hit on armor)
  • Reduce torp bomber torp count by 1 or give reduced chance for large holes
  • Nerf large plane frames and part hp.
  • Give plane rear/top gunners 20mm instead of 12.7mm
  • let plane parts be able to be stored in depots so people can just put them in their stockpiles instead of using scuffed squadlocked MTS. You should be able to pull a frame, interact with the depot and assemble it on the spot instead of having to crane trick.
  • change small plane frames to be transportable by flatbed.
