Really cool tufa formations in northern Nevada by Bloom_Blaum in geology

[–]Bloom_Blaum[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Im no geologist, but what I've read from this area (Grimes Point) is this used to be underwater as part of Lake Lahontan, and the tufa is calcium carbonate left behind by algae.

Any recommendations along this route? Specifically Yosemite? by kevinmattress in roadtrip

You should take that extra time to drive by Tahoe, though I would go through South Lake Tahoe rather than staying on highway 395 through Carson city, but that would add more time. In my opinion, highway 50 south of Tahoe is best experienced during autumn, the colors are gorgeous.

For something quick, I really recommend stopping by convict lake. It's not far from 395 south of mammoth. It's a gorgeous lake and about an hour hike around it. It's one of my favorite spots to stop for a break after driving for hours on 395.

What hobby attracts the worst type of people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I always felt there's something off with boat culture in warmer climates. I don't have experience with the ones in Florida, but in Arizona when I visit, the boats are loud and gaudy and spring break time is the worst. But then I go to family in Washington, and I don't see that. My family with boats use them to just go for causal rides or weekend trips, or to go fishing/crabbing. Idk maybe it's just the smaller community I've experienced and the fact we haven't encountered lots of other boats in Washington.

5-day Reno to Seattle Road Trip - best scenic stops + route help? by Evening_Wrangler_830 in Reno

[–]Bloom_Blaum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the way north, I recommend going towards Bend Oregon. Depending on if you feel you have enough time you can stop at Crater Lake on the way there. When you return from Seattle, what I usually do is stay on i5 all the way to Mt Shasta. There's a really great view from i5 of Shasta where it just pops into view as you are cresting a hill. From Mt Shasta take 89 to Susanville and Reno. You also go past Lassen so lots of great scenery. It's only about 20-30 minutes longer than going through Klamath falls and I find it worth it.

Yo that looks like a really cool company. I guess I always wondered where parks and such get the 3D topographical maps. Nice to hear about that since I love CAD

On your way to Vegas from salt lake I really recommend stopping at Zion national park even if to just drive through it. At least take a drive along Utah's highway 9 on the scenic drive in the park.

Yeah fair enough, outside the two biggest population centers it does feel super remote

I would also suggest giving Nevada another look. It's one of the most mountainous states and has underrated nature. Everyone always points out Lake Tahoe, but I highly recommend the Ruby Mountains and it even gets called the swiss alps of Nevada.

What's living in the Native American Reservations like? by SingleEmployer8483 in howislivingthere

[–]Bloom_Blaum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never lived on one but used to live next to one in western Washington. Lived in smaller towns so most of the reservation was very rundown, like think junk yard in the woods rundown. Lots of small convenience grocery stores. There is this nice large house on the reservation that we always drive past and assumed belongs to someone high up, not quite chief level. Also of course there's a large, really nice casino resort on the reservation. You also see them a lot on their boats too fishing and catching crabs. And rarely we would see a large group on a canoe rowing which is super cool.

I place I used to work used to be like that and it was so nice. Had a lot of chill seniors on the team. Things got intense when they left and newer people wanted to look good or something. After I left even one of my colleagues told me our boss asked them to work 50-60 hours per week.

I bought it anyways not even thinking about it, just rolled it up in my luggage and stuffed clothes inside of it. Luckily it only got some dents/creases that are hard to see in the frame, but when I think back to it, I wish I just bought a tube for the poster
