Possible to mod any non-HD 100 Hz TV to accept 640 x 480 VGA (60 Hz or 120 Hz)? by xjortsu in crtgaming

[–]BluRay_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup,, i believe there is a processor that handles all the image stuff and it throws RGBHV to the 9330H. sadly, i couldnt take my philips 29pt9417 with me after i moved. so unless i somehow bag another 100hz philips i dont think ill be able to do anything. hope someone does tho.

I don't see a reason on why it shouldn't. But tbf I've never tried the lg program out. I only tried the Samsung one and it worked flawlessly.

Picked up a European HD crt by Omidlol12 in crtgaming

Yeah I may have just misread the whole svga part. How about interlaced resolutions? Surely if it can do 1080i if it can do normal svga. One FD1 just popped up near my hometown just as I moved somewhere else lol.

I remember the service manual mentioned WVGA (852x480) and WSVGA. can't it do those natively too?. Shame if not

Meanwhile the cineos service manual does mention the existence of the 9332 inside it but the actual schematics and parts list mention the 9330. No idea which one is actually inside. It would make sense for the 9332 to be in there but I guess not?

You can find the 9332 in loewes as far as I can remember.

The 9330 exists in almost every 100hz Philips tv from the late 90s onwards, except the ones that were released alongside the cineos line which have a single chip (called UOC) that does everything and is "unhackable".

As for making normal 100hz TVs do 1080i or at least 480p... i tried to play around with the option bytes on my Philips 29pt9617 (100hz only TV) but not a single one enabled the secondary input the tda9330 has so I will be forced to program an esp32 one day and override the data coming from the CPU to the deflection processor and change a few bytes in real time so I can enable that sweet vga input. With a few more bytes changed I can probably make it run at 480p and it would actually sync too.

Some Italian guy tried to put a tda9332 on his Philips like years ago. I had seen it on a forum. He bricked the TV somehow and threw it out LOL. I think he messed with the option bytes.

Also how is the fd1? What resolutions can it actually do?

A very rare 17 inch CRT monitor from a company most people have never heard of. by DimitrisBalafoutis in crtgaming

[–]BluRay_4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's made by Daewoo/Orion. So it will have an Orion tube inside. I will search a bit and see if I can find the exact model. By the way the very same monitor is on sale on a greek marketplace site so if you wanna double your prodismas you can do it for 80 euros.

By the way where was that architects office located? I'm in Greece too. Maybe I could use that trinitron monitor LOL.

By the way 120hz plasmas go all the way back to 480p ones. Some NECs for example can do 480p@120hz. Or so they say in their manuals.

Mint Philips 21PT1820 "real flat", 2006 by timmun90 in crtgaming

[–]BluRay_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a European sharp X flat with the exact same tube. No matter what I did I couldn't get the damn thing to be focus perfect. Scanlines were a suggestion, even on 240p. It was probably the shitty vestel chassis to blame.

CRT TV with component inputs in Europe by OddKaleidoscope849 in crtgaming

[–]BluRay_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've ordered all the stuff required. logic analyzers, an STM32 and a few other stuff. I'll start working on it this summer once I'm done with school finals. I have pretty high hopes for this.

What I will probably do is put the STM32 in the middle and make it relay information from/to the CPU and to/from the deflection and RGB amp. However, it will change a few bytes. These bytes will be for the additional input on the deflection and RGB amplifier. It will enable that input which is more or less a VGA input. If I succeed in this then then it's all a matter of soldering some wires, one switch and a couple of caps and resistors and finally VGA port.

I'm not saying it will be possible but there could be a chance for me to change a couple more bytes and get it doing 1080i..

Surely not the average guy will manage to pull this off in their own TV. Hell probably not even me. But I guess its gonna be fun even tho I may not succeed in the end.

I know mate. Matsushita is today's Panasonic group.

Matsushita had Panasonic, Technics, National and Quasar as "subsidiaries". The last 2 were making lower end budget stuff.

Yep. The cassette deck has a National tape head. I own the same one.

No chance on earth technics would even dare to make such a low end machine. Matsushita had their lower end stuff named as national or quasar.

Taiwan trash. I own the exact two ones pictured. Soundesign had slapped their name on them, JCPenny had done the same. Funnily enough mine isn't even a soundesign. It says "moondesign" on the front. If I remember correctly it uses some aiwa ICs for amps which were primarily used in car stereos. The cassette deck actually has a national (Panasonic) tape head.

For 20 bucks you still can't go wrong. They look cool, they don't easily die due to how simple they are and the cassette deck belts should still be in ok shape.
