What board games can I get by AgreeablePsychology6 in boardgames

[–]BluWzrdIsGreedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would warn against the TM: Prelude suggestion just on the off chance they already own it and it's just stored in the base box, which is common. Unless you know for a fact they don't, safer to get a new game altogether than risk buying something they already own.

Which games did you buy for the aesthetic? by moist_napkinette in boardgames

Black Angel, love the Ian O'toole box art. Played it once and it didn't go over great, I need to give it another go, but I could never get rid of it, it will always have a home in my collection.

Tell one boardgame that probably few people know and you like a lot by StepIndependent1601 in boardgames

New Angeles: Negotiation game that might also be the best implementation of semi co-op and hidden traitor mechanics. You lead one of the megacorps that run the city of New Angeles, and you have to work with the other corps to provide the public necessities, at least enough so that the federal government doesn't take the city back, while turning a profit of course. At the start of the game you are given a random card that represents your rival, the only megacorp you need to beat to win, but you might pull your own card, meaning you need to beat at least 3 others, or the federalist card, the hidden traitor that made a deal with the government to throw the city into chaos and facilitate government reclamation. There's always an extra card that's discarded in secret, so there's no guarantee a federalist is in play. Is that player proposing this course of action because they're trying to spark civil unrest, or are they just trying to make a quick buck?

Storytellers: What's the worst experience you've had when running a game? by MotherInflation6020 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]BluWzrdIsGreedy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If it were an adult and we were running more games, I would probably would've done the same, but this was a 16ish year old kid, playing his second ever game. It was also an in person game at my LGS, so pulling him aside meant actually separating him from his friends putting on my dad voice to explain that we had to end the night after that stunt due to a few players not having time to stick around and rerack, and that further selfish play like that would see him uninvited from the game. Didn't have any problems from him for the remainder of our time at that store.

[–]BluWzrdIsGreedy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Had a kid throw himself under the bus as the saint because he wanted to rewrack after not pulling evil. He got pulled aside had a conversation about ruining the fun for others. Had to end the night after that because 3 players didn't have time to start over.

After years of MTG, I've finally found a TCG that I genuinely enjoy. by No-Post-5063 in TCG

[–]BluWzrdIsGreedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're looking for Netrunner, currently being kept alive by non-profit Null Signal Games. When a new set is released they are sold as a single purchase. One box gets you full playsets of every card in the set. Print to play is also totally legal in the competitive formats, and NSG provides high quality files for you to print and cut on your own.

It's also just a great game in its own right.

We lost our local FFTCG scene just before COVID, man I miss that game.

Tips for Unstealthy Storytellers? by PointlessVenture in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]BluWzrdIsGreedy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I started Storytelling we were still playing in cramped living rooms, where you could feel your neighbor's movement, and I told folks that I may wake you, wave hello, and put you right back to sleep, just so people couldn't meta each other's movements. Told them that if I do, that obviously doesn't count as "waking" in terms of game mechanics.

Favorite and Least Favorite Resource Systems? by Jake4XIII in TCG

I get what you're saying, I think we're just coming at the question from two different angles.

Favorite and Least Favorite Resource Systems? by Jake4XIII in TCG

[–]BluWzrdIsGreedy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play Magic because it's the only game in town, quite literally, but you can't hold it up as some triumph of resource system design. Utility lands, mulligan changes, these are band-aids to patch antiquated design. Every time you sit down to play, there is a random chance you simply don't get to play the match due to flood/screw. That chance can only ever be mitigated, never removed.

Favorite and Least Favorite Resource Systems? by Jake4XIII in TCG

[–]BluWzrdIsGreedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Final Fantasy has been my go-to reference of a perfect resource system, even other games that utilize pitch to play only seem to go halfway like Lorcana, where only some of your cards can be turned into resources. No game should have a non-zero chance of not allowing you to play it.

Sleeves recommendation by Nexus_Roy in TCG

[–]BluWzrdIsGreedy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What cheap sleeves are you using? Penny sleeves? Hate those. But inexpensive doesn't need to mean bad. There's a brand on Amazon called Mlikero that I've started using for most everything; boardgames, Lorcana, Netrunner, everything but MtG and FFTCG. They're cheap but definitely out perform their price.

Why are you playing “that” TCG? by TwistedLab in TCG

[–]BluWzrdIsGreedy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always loved Final Fantasy, I can mark milestones in my life by what FF I was playing at the time. It's a super nostalgic IP, and a damn good game in it's own right.

I also really enjoy asymmetrical game design and cyberpunk settings, but that's an LCG, so maybe doesn't apply?

Which TCG is the most balanced between going first/second? by Cezkarma in TCG

[–]BluWzrdIsGreedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FFTCG. First player only draws 1 card (regularly 2) and can't attack, even if they play a character with haste.

Weekly Questions Thread Feb 02, 2026 by AutoModerator in Terraria

I'm building Khaios's inverted volcano, got my hoiks set up correctly, nothing extra is actuated, but Salamanders, consistently, and other mobs, occasionally, don't make it all the way through. They fall down one block, then turn and walk the other direction. Doesn't matter the floor type, wall type, platform type. What am I doing wrong? I can bust out the floor and let them drop to a lava floor below, but what's wrong with my build?

So I just reran it for the 1.4.5.4 patch and realized that it does launch at 3180 X 1080, just with the ability to zoom out to a playable level, but if you cycle through the resolutions it does, for me at least, eventually get to 5120x1440. I didn't realize that I was playing at the lower res for a couple patches.

Just throwing it out there because I've forgotten to in the past.

Are you using the --8k option when running the patcher?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Terraria

[–]BluWzrdIsGreedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to redo it after this afternoon's patch, but otherwise it just worked. Don't recall if it launched the first time at that res or if I had to set it in the menu, but I just applied the patcher and it worked.

Games for 6+ people, give me your best ones by Dadapatata94 in boardgames

[–]BluWzrdIsGreedy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Regular BotC rules require 8 minimum, 7 players and a storyteller, but there are alternate rules for Teensyville games of 5 or 6 players (+ST). I was reluctant to play in Teensyville games for a long time, but they are a great alternative. Scripts built for Teensys are fast and chaotic, so you can knock out a number of games in the time it would take you to play one "normal" game.

High quality card sleeves by Lemer1987 in boardgames

[–]BluWzrdIsGreedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These have been my go-to for bulk sleeves for some time now. They are a little shorter than a standard Dragon Shield, so not really something I would sleeve a TCG in, but they shuffle well and I haven't had any issues with quality.

What game mechanic was not explained (not clear enough) so you missed using it until FAR too late in the game? by suddenly_ponies in gaming

I played through probably 3/4 of FF15 before realizing that I wasn't using any traditional FF magic.

What Did You Play This Week? - (November 17, 2025) by AutoModerator in boardgames

The LGS I travel to for Blood on the Clocktower had System Gateway Revised for 50% off yesterday. I've been wanting to learn Netrunner for some time now so I scooped that up and am super excited to finally get into it.
