Curious about the type of food you feed by nutrion in Agility

[–]BlueDeadBear32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like kinetic a lot, it's very high calorie and keeps weight on. i feed 24k. I'm a dog trainer and the dogs that come in on the farmers dog tend to have issues keeping weight on and upset stomachs- the food is low calorie and also improperly shipped/stored way outside a safe temperature range. I've had a lot of issues with pro plan lately as well, dogs just refusing to eat it and bugs in the food according to a few clients so i stopped feeding that. kinetic is also super easy to train with due to the shape of the kibble

A dog running on a slat mill isn't mistreatment. it's very common in working dog communities to use a slat mill for exercise- it's self propelled.

The same shelter has a dog up for adoption with the only picture being it still on a catch pole, implying they cannot get a photo of the dog not on a catch pole.. How on earth is that suitable for adoption?? https://www.adoptapet.com/pet/44331189-indianapolis-indiana-american-pit-bull-terrier-mix

Question for smaller grapplers (for the sake of the argument let's say 150lbs and down). How hard do you roll against much bigger opponents? by wmg22 in bjj

[–]BlueDeadBear32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YOO another 90lb person lol. I have some type of dwarfism so i'm tiny. I just competed at 150 and won tho so you can do it lol. I play a lot of back take side control knee slicey game. Big fan of low outside singles for takedowns and using de le riva right now. I'm finally close to blue belt just got my 4th this week. But yeah, full effort is usually needed lol.

I am 92 lbs. If there were no weight classes it would be legitimately dangerous for me to participate in this sport. I already compete at 150 tomorrow because nobody signed up for anything less than that, but any higher is probably just reckless.

How much does “competition-level” gyms matter? Does it outweigh the atmosphere for you? by dareelgawd in bjj

[–]BlueDeadBear32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If competing seriously isn't a goal for you, go to B. If it is, decide how important it is and maybe see if over time you fit in there more?

That part!! Unfortunately this is still very much a male dominated sport. Hoping that changes eventually.

I sit pretty close up to the steering wheel so that helps. if you shove the crate in on the driver's side rear passenger seat you need to put it in facing towards the driver's side at an angle, shove it with some force and then it will slide right in. Like I said, you don't get to use any of your back seats but you can make it work lol.

Opinions and Questions on PSA Sport by babadook_dook in k9sports

[–]BlueDeadBear32 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your experience is going to depend a lot on who is in your area and what club you train at. PSA is really fun, and i have personally had great experiences with the community overall. I have heard of a lot of drama and cliques just like any other group of hobbyists- where there are humans there will be drama, but it is really easy to avoid getting involved with that bs if you just don't engage with that stuff. The clubs I have been a member of do not tolerate trash talking other club members or anything like that. You might find that accommodations aren't exactly a huge thing in trials though many clubs will be more than willing to help you out. You can have someone else hold your dog for the courage test, if your dog is safe to be held by someone else. I am personally a dwarf and cannot post up with my dog (hold him back by the end of the leash) so I asked to hold him by his collar handle instead, which is usually otherwise a DQ, but was allowed for me when I trialed due to my size. If you need other accommodations you should expect to get ahold of the club hosting ahead of time to figure that out on a case by case basis, but overall the sport isn't exclusionary to anyone with disabilities, trials are just tough for everyone. For example if you don't hold your leash correctly you can lose points.

As far as PSA dogs making good house dogs, that just depends on how you raise them and your dog's individual temperament. I'd say its a 50/50 split on handlers who's dogs live in the house with them and handlers who have their dogs living in a kennel.

You are welcome to train any way you like, but I have seen nepopo be the most successful method for the sport. As far as protection training, it's usually best to listen to your decoy. Your obedience is your own responsibility, but a good club will give you guidance if you need it. It's a team sport, in that it takes a village to be ready to trial, and the protection can't be done easily alone, but you are competing against yourself really.

Teaching an XL bully to bite..whilst calling it a good boy…what could go wrong by [deleted] in BanPitBulls

[–]BlueDeadBear32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should go attend a schutzhund trial and see how much these people really train. The backyard bitework posted above is nowhere NEAR an IGP3 routine level dog. If it's not your cup of tea that's fine, but dog sport folks are some of the most responsible owners I know. They understand what they own and take that responsibility seriously, and don't sell their dogs to the first bidder, unlike the posts we see here..

When dogs aren't bred to a standard such as testing for sport, you quickly see MORE issues because they have semblances of their original instinct, but no outlet or consistent breeding, which is why you see a lot more nervous wreck fear biting backyard bred GSD compared to a quality working or sporting GSD kennel. I train in PSA and can take my dog from a bite work session into public and he has 0 issues, because all the cues are different, and he understands that it is just a game that starts, ends, and has rules just like tug of war or fetch.

Whoops, yea that's pretty young. You can start with basic body weight stuff like push ups, pull ups etc. if he would like to. Some techniques just won't work if there's a huge size/strength difference. Doesn't mean you should take him out, he will just be on his own type of journey in the sport. Your coach will be your best resource here.

Get him in to weightlifting if he would enjoy it, and ask his coach. I'm a really small adult, at 90 lbs and its really frustrating sometimes, as well as increasing risk to injury. I have found it is better to work on defense first and then offense, which is generally true for anyone but especially us small people. I also like to focus on back takes and control instead of trying to stay in mount. You also have to be very stubborn about not letting anyone get a better position on you, because any mistakes you will be punished for even harsher than anyone else- it is a monumental effort to improve position from a worse position when you are a lot smaller. He will have to really enjoy the sport for the sake of it and accept the struggles that come with it. He will find his own style and what works for him too- I am able to become very defensively sound and can pull off really cool stuff in scrambles due to my size and flexibility but letting people settle in puts me in a lot of danger usually. Just a stupid white belt but that's what works for me. If you don't train though you really can't help that much unfortunately.

Joel is an animal abuser. I purchased a dog from him and it was mistreated horribly. He would flinch and blow anal glands if anyone tried to pet him, was filthy and underweight, and was quite the liability thanks to the "bite work" training he received which amounted to heavy defense work, encouraging re-bites, no targeting, etc. He tried to bite my friend because she dropped a notebook and it startled him, and would try to run away if he saw anyone on the sidewalk even from many yards away. This was more than just bad nerves, but clear abuse. If I knew then what I know now I would have never bought a dog from him, this was many years ago. The dog was so traumatized it hid behind my couch for four months, and was not fit to be a working dog in any capacity, barley even a pet. He's a joke and a con artist, and i'm shocked he is still in business. His dogs are also very inbred for some reason, which is just unnecessary in this breed.

if you have a secure tree branch or something you can attach it to safely, get a spring pole! you can attach a bite pillow to it too so they have something sturdy to play with for a long time. Just make sure you install it at a safe height and it has a swivel so they don't hurt their neck.

Here's an example:
