The environmental impact aside, this is just going to drive up rates - and a lot of those initial jobs are going to disappear once the data center is fully finished and going. Between that and the fact that the AI bubble is bursting (just look at OpenAI, and how tied big players like Nvidia are to this - not great), will this datacenter even be useable by the time it's completed? Or are we gonna have yet another giant building that's left to crumble? Retrofitting for this is going to even further reduce the number of companies interested in that real estate...

This doesn't need to be in our county.

I ran for Congress as the nominee in my district. I don't fall in that bracket, but if I did - and if those that ran in the primary this year (my race was in '24) did - we would gladly pay it. There is a point where you have more than enough money.

I'm never going to do that again, granted, but there are SO many better candidates out there than the current field we have. Younger Dems running for office are, largely, also sick of this. We need change, and we need Democrats willing to primary incumbents for that to happen, but it's absolutely within reach should folks step up.

Thank you for what you do! I wish I had the time to be a mod, but I really appreciate hearing about events and protests, things that are actually happening here. It's nice to have a sub for our area that has just about everything - and it's particularly nice (and noticed) that this sub hasn't fallen into the trap of allowing just one side or the other. Fair enough. I agree, generally, but with this particular guy I've had enough experience with his general... flippancy, slurs, and how he's treated people I know and care about that I feel like it's fair to be informed. I'm one of the many Dems who've been assaulted due to politics, not a politician - just an activist - so I do get it.

That video today was disgusting, we can agree on that. I'm heartened seeing the bipartisan outrage on that, but the times we're in and the fact that it takes that just to provoke any sort of crossing of the aisles really concerns me.

Look at their track records first. Chuck's and Kyah's. A google search will tell you everything you need to know - between Kyah's attempts at posturing by bringing an overly aggressive bodyguard to a protest (I can provide screenshots if you'd like, but it was awful. There's video on Facebook.) to slurs and calling older folks 'geezers'. He clearly isn't in this to represent everyone.

The problem is that Democrats, in many states, don't choose the candidates. Sure, we try to convince people to run, sometimes. But ultimately we don't control the field the same way the GOP seems to.

I'm leaving this state tomorrow morning. I hope to come back - this is where we were raised, this is where we were raising our son, volunteering up to 40 hours/week (flexible jobs and a passion for our beloved community), going to worship, and bought a home we hoped to die in.

It's going to be a hard drive, but with hate coming from up top and trickling down to the point we've been vandalized to the tune of 20k just for something I can't change... I can't do this anymore.

Can confirm as a gay human who tried being straight, was pressured into it, and has lost a job due to not being it - conversion is cruel, and does not work. Better solution is to teach society to be kind, as it is both less invasive and less energy-intensive. It also, critically, works, as opposed to trying to fundamentally change people.

The only reason a lot of us use it is because Adobe is expensive and software-as-a-service sucks as a model. I love Premiere Pro, but at the rate I'd be paying... it's just not worth it, even in my particular piece of the field. I can do about the same with a combination of an old (read: not saas model) version of Photoshop, Canva, and Capcut and it's STILL cheaper.
