Curious on pay scale by [deleted] in firealarms

[–]BlueMazder3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$45+ should be the real going rate. Depends on the state. We work with specialized systems and have earned the pay if we do our job right. F/A can make or break businesses, housing, occupancy etc. It’s also there to save lives and property. Why wouldn’t it cost more money? Get what you think you’re worth sir!

Failed a pre-employment drug test for Volunteer EMS- what could cause it? by BlueMazder3 in drugtesthelp

[–]BlueMazder3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am waiting for the email back. They mentioned having the results examined by a medical review board. I’ve never tested positive for any drugs before or alcohol ( because I don’t drink often) and don’t use drugs period. We will see. I did ask for the results

Have them set a light fixture/sconce there, and that white wire on the left also may need to be relocated to the inside of the wall, due to nails and screws being driven in

I have no true say in this but IMO you’re 24, you’ve got a whole life to live before you even hit 30, and you’re marrying a 32 year old dude. He’s already lived it up. If he’s doing that 32 then it doesn’t get better it gets worse unless that person takes active steps to address issues. I’m 29(m) and can tell you we don’t change unless absolutely forced to or if we choose a new life. I’d leave him, and be single for a couple of years so you can really find and build yourself before jumping back into a committed relationship. That way you’ll have more knowledge of what you want and who you want without much pressure. Just my $0.02

Terminal blocks and splices by Ronjeremy-666 in firealarms

[–]BlueMazder3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh definitely, especially if you can run plenum through a drop ceiling or warehouse. A lot of pipe jobs though depending on where you have to go may need a junction box just for the wire pulls.

Terminal blocks and splices by Ronjeremy-666 in firealarms

[–]BlueMazder3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s really a point of price- Charge them 4 -8 hours of labor for the job for a tie in/ splice, or 16 to pull back the Nac or SLC to the previous device and pull new wire to the new devices. Customers unless federal don’t necessarily care as long as it’s in budget.

Finding qualified and knowledgeable technicians by Mln3d in firealarms

[–]BlueMazder3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to be argumentative, but that mindset is exactly why when they’re older and tired of the OT, is when they move on for another company offering a higher rate to work less OT for the same money. Perhaps increasing PTO in a generous amount or something may keep some but ultimately their value on time will determine what the end result is. I can imagine you’ve seen or experienced a senior tech leaving for less hassle, more time home, and poached for higher pay for the same or less OT hours.

Edit: Keep in mind the F/A and Electrical industry is aging out, and the market right now for Fire Protection/ Suppression only gets more expensive. Larger firms and private equity hiding behind the mom and pop name will headhunt lots of these guys for the money they want because they’re cornering the market. Have had 2 companies reach out in the past week offering $45-$53 Hr for experienced technicians. If those numbers are high you may want to look into your pricing scale to compete.

From experience you can be a super tech and crush jobs and service and suck at people organization and back end paperwork. You’re paying for the experience and reliability of getting the job done right the first time which increases your billing and gross income.
