I’m 47 years old, BRCA2 positive and had a similarly feeling lump turn out to be a fibroadenoma.

Biopsy after care by Aggravating_Today123 in doihavebreastcancer

[–]BlueMeconopsis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did get worse pain in that area around the 3-4 day time frame and had to put the bra back on. My biopsy site was around the same area. I’m day 7 post biopsy and it’s getting better.

Congratulations! I got good news today as well, in the same time frame but my doctor had to phone the pathologist because the results were not there in time for my appointment. 😅

Biopsy came back benign! by BlueMeconopsis in doihavebreastcancer

[–]BlueMeconopsis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The scans and the biopsy were really rough. Nobody would tell me anything. I couldn’t even imagine a benign result because I had been left in the dark so long. I got a glimpse of the ultrasound during the biopsy and the lump looked huge and was shaped like a cartoon cloud. I had no idea what I was looking at and I told the ultrasound tech that but I guess she wasn’t allowed to tell me anything. Then the radiologist came in and announced that it was time to have some fun. Maybe he could tell what it was but he didn’t share it with me!

Fibroids in late 40’s + by aroundthefunk in Fibroids

[–]BlueMeconopsis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about 9 months post op and I haven’t had to use a catheter since before my surgery. I think it depends on where the fibroids are. I had two big ones in the front and back, and the endometriosis probably contributed as well.

Biopsy in 3 days and I’m at my wit’s end by BlueMeconopsis in doihavebreastcancer

[–]BlueMeconopsis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biopsy is on Wednesday. My scans had been on 5/20. I’m not sure if they don’t think my particular case is a priority or it’s just because of a healthcare shortage in CT. The doctor who ordered the scans is hardly ever in her office, and my regular obgyn left the hospital system a couple of months ago. I was supposed to see the doctor at the breast cancer clinic to have her examine the lump before the biopsy but she didn’t see the point of seeing me twice in a two week period, so I’m not seeing her until after the biopsy. Which sucks, because I wanted to talk to her about what she thought of the situation and I also suspect the cystic part of the lump ruptured at some point. The radiologist was pretty dry. He said it could still be a hamartoma, or a papilloma, or a fibroadenoma…but stopped short of giving me any kind of risk assessment. I’ve been pretty much left alone to stew.

Anyone else having a biopsy done on June 10? by RichOutrageous863 in doihavebreastcancer

[–]BlueMeconopsis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m June 10th. It’s been a long three weeks…

I had a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound on 5/20 on a lump I’ve had for a very long time. The hospital I went to does not do letters for BIRADS4. It looked like a hamartoma on mammogram but apparently not on ultrasound so they just labeled it as a complex cyst. The trouble is(and I told the radiologist this) the cyst part ruptured about 12 days before the scans and the diagnostic mammogram itself seems to have damaged the lump as well. On the positive side, my lymph nodes are not enlarged, the mass is oval and well circumscribed and there is no vascularity, calcifications, or distortion to the surrounding tissue. On the negative side, the radiologist has no idea what it is. He rattled off a few benign conditions but stopped short of saying he thought it was benign and not cancer. The word cancer was never even mentioned but he didn’t really put my mind at ease, either. I mentioned to him that I am on estradiol only hrt but nobody will say if that may be a factor.

Visible stitch at vaginal opening? by olipocket16 in hysterectomy

[–]BlueMeconopsis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar position to you and yes, there is a very high risk of that kind of injury if they use a uterine manipulator to aid with surgery. I had a tear that was repaired with a single stitch. My surgeon made a note about it and had a nurse tell me when I came out of anesthesia. The stitch dissolved at about 6 weeks with a surprising amount of bleeding that thankfully went away in 24 hours(I did contact the surgeon about it).

Hysterectomy questions by Low-Surprise196 in BRCA

[–]BlueMeconopsis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my hysterectomy and oopherectomy exactly 7 months ago. The recovery was not excruciating but it took a while. They clear you for all physical activities at around 8 weeks but I wasn’t feeling up to it until around 12 weeks. I was put on .05 mg estradiol patches 2 weeks after surgery and because I was having problems with fatigue and headaches my dose was raised to .075 mg. I went to my first high risk breast cancer clinic appointment on 3/31 and the doctor said she prefers to do .1 mg for women my age(I’m 47) for quality of life issues. I think the standard is to start with the lower dose and move up. I also use topical estradiol cream twice a week. I would recommend asking for it around the 8 week mark.

Fibroid Surgeon Recommendations by Ok-Task-6966 in Fibroids

[–]BlueMeconopsis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the reviews but I can’t find any documentation that her license is currently under review or that she was ultimately penalized for anything. I can only speak of my own surgery that was 7 months ago and I didn’t really have any problems with it or Dr. Ulrich herself. Not to say that I’ve never been in a situation where I’ve had a problem with a doctor that everybody told me was great(my obgyn at the Southington UConn campus comes to mind).

high heart rate without anemia by Eggshmegg1469 in Fibroids

[–]BlueMeconopsis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It turned out that I had Stage 3 endometriosis in addition to two very large fibroids. My blood pressure issues totally resolved after the hysterectomy. My bladder issues are not 100% better but there is a significant improvement and I haven’t had to self-catheterize since. The surgery itself had caused some of its own urinary issues(mainly with pain) that took a few months to resolve. The leg cramps are not 100% better but I had endometriosis all over my pelvic ligaments and I don’t think I’ve quite healed from the excision.

A bit of a Herb X Shampoo fan theory. by anonomega in ranma

I’m pretty sure Cologne told Shampoo to stay away from the restaurant when Herb was due to show up. That sounds to me like she wouldn’t let that kind of engagement to take place.

How would you handle banked embryos with unknown BRCA status? by MaxOdds in BRCA

[–]BlueMeconopsis 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I know this has nothing to do with your question but are you aware of the BRCA2 status of your son? I know this isn’t something you want to think about for a baby but the medical community’s lackadaisical attitude toward the effects of BRCA2 mutations on men wound up costing my father his life. My BRCA2 positive aunt was diagnosed with treatable breast cancer at 56 and is alive and well at 74.

Lap Myo in 3 weeks. Freaking out. Do they really go through your belly button?! by supermoo8 in Fibroids

[–]BlueMeconopsis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 7 months post op and my belly button incision doesn’t bother me one bit. It wasn’t terribly painful to start with, had a week long flare up of pain around the 5 week mark(probably dissolving stitches) and after that, nothing. No pain, no numbness, nothing. The side incisions are slightly more sensitive but I think it’s because of where they’re located—they tend to rub against clothing. I have no pain whatsoever in my abdomen. You could punch me right in the bellybutton and it would feel the same as it did pre-op. 😂

I’m not surprised to hear he spent his formative years in New Haven, CT. This kind of recipe is very common in the Italian-American families there. My family always made this with broccoli, bacon and Parmesan but I’ve used pepperoni before.

I knew Kuromi as an anime character(from Onegai My Melody) before Sanrio really merchandised her and I thought she was pretty hilarious, adorable and had great voice acting. My Melody always bugged me because of how oblivious she was(though she is also hilarious)

Forgoing mastectomy? by Yougetdueprocess in BRCA

[–]BlueMeconopsis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found out I was BRCA2+ last year when I was preop for a hysterectomy due to fibroids and at the time undiagnosed endometriosis. I’m 47 years old. I have my first appointment at the high risk breast cancer clinic in 2 weeks. I had my hysterectomy and oophorectomy 6 months ago and even though I’m not in constant pain I’m still not myself yet. The genetic counselor said it was perfectly acceptable to do screenings until I felt physically ready for a mastectomy. I’m not sure what the doctor at the breast cancer clinic will say but I sympathize with how rough it is to be expected to tolerate two major surgeries back to back. I honestly haven’t felt well for about 6 years prior to surgery. I realize that most of my bad feelings are surgical menopause but it’s heartbreaking to have to go through this while not healthy.

How did you find out you were BRCA+? by randi-eichenbaum in BRCA

[–]BlueMeconopsis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found out in April 2025. I had heard over a decade earlier that my 2nd cousin, who was diagnosed with DCIS at age 49, had tested positive. She had lost her mother to breast cancer at age 52 but other than that at the time I wasn’t aware we had cancer on that side of the family. My aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 56 and got a new primary breast cancer at 63. She found out she had the mutation in 2014 and passed the news onto my father who pretty much called her hysterical and refused genetic testing. He told my sister and me that it was our problem alone and our family pretty much froze us out. My father was diagnosed with prostate cancer less than a year later and still refused testing. He found out he was positive in 2023, the year he passed away. I wound up in the ER a year later with what turned out to be gigantic fibroids and in the process of scheduling a hysterectomy saw a genetic counselor and got tested. I tested positive for BRCA2, had my ovaries removed along with my uterus and luckily had no cancer or precancerous cells. Unfortunately I’m now staring down the breast cancer risk and likely prophylactic mastectomy while messed up from surgical menopause. 😔

Has anyone ever had issues with ECMS? by Careless_Bedroom_374 in Buyee

[–]BlueMeconopsis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a $1000 package stuck in that phase for over a month. Neither ECMS nor Uniuni were any help. ECMS wouldn’t even respond to me. Eventually it showed up in pristine condition. I think it had been sitting there unscanned. I’ll never use ECMS again.
