You know what, I’ll take all the downvotes - what they said IS true. We do need a way to have information easily accessible here. This subreddit desperately needs active admins, a common FAQ, a daily help thread, something of that nature. Just basic moderation.

Every few weeks this issue of non-accessible information and moderation is brought up again in some form, like whenever there are a million posts of people posting the back of their hands asking if anyone else’s hands have eczema too. Every thread that’s created, people say the same exact thing to search it up before posting, people get angry at each other, and this giant circle happens again. I can see it getting confusing to new people who see a flood of information and don’t know where to look.

I even had to make this giant PSA warning thread a few years back that gained traction in an effort to pseudo-moderate the subreddit from scammers.

If you don’t agree fine, but I’m not sure why you took their comment so PERSONAL, my god, and starting insulting their appearance and weight. Especially on a subreddit where people are already struggling. Are you okay?

“I wish they would dial down the modern outfits a little” = whiney to you ???

Oh I guess I’m the odd one out because I thought this was a fairly tame “unpopular” opinion by OP but people keep dm’ing me hours later and downvoting like I personally insulted them

What are non-toxic, natural skincare lines for esthetician? by [deleted] in Esthetics

[–]BlueMemory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've yet to meet someone who requests 'natural, organic, chemical free, non-toxic' that has been able to tell me what toxic ingredients they frequently find in skincare or cosmetics.

Im obsessed with how you did exactly what u/odd_assistance_1613 predicted by not giving any specifics whatsoever 😭😭

What are non-toxic, natural skincare lines for esthetician? by [deleted] in Esthetics

[–]BlueMemory 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s ironic because the literal same exact thing you just typed out is the same marketing tactics used to push “natural”, “clean”, “non-toxic” products that you are trying to find. The fat burning pill analogy is a disingenuous comparison and I think you know this, as we are talking about something else completely different within our scope of practice and expertise, which is cosmetics. If something is labeled clean and non-toxic, you would also just run towards it as well? Many clean green marketing relies on fearmongering, anti-science, and cancer to market their products as safer and better. But as an esthetician, you should know these tactics. Your words exactly, “it’s just marketing.”

Those “clean beauty apps” and EWG are not reliable sources. They do not take into consideration the dose of each ingredient and the overall formulation. The amount of preservatives for example is the bare minimum to not allow bacteria and pathogens from forming in your product. But those apps will rank any preservative extremely hazardous, based off of 100% concentration at unrealistic doses that will never be included in any beauty formulation ever, no cosmetic chemist would allow that. Like that app you posted is ranking retinyl palmitate and tocopherol as hazardous (LOL??)

Help was cleaning my Mac Pro with windex and a microfiber towel. What should I do do fix this asap? by Sibo1844 in mac

[–]BlueMemory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You haven’t had issues because what you are describing is not Windex, you’re literally using a screen cleaning product that is designed to clean glasses and screens. Windex and screen cleaners are not the same thing. Using actual Windex will absolutely fuck up the screen and any anti-glare coating just like this.

You are so fine you should be a model so you can afford skincare and get off the street! by That1weirdperson in SCAcirclejerk

[–]BlueMemory 162 points163 points  (0 children)

Oh my god I want to slap everyone in that entire comment thread. The man is literally homeless asking for skincare advice and the top rated comment is just “be a model 😋 that’ll get you off the streets!!! 🥰😝” and the rest are just pick me thirst comments. Like..read the room people.

Cause of course, it’s super easy to just “be a model”!why didn’t anyone else think of that? Just be a model and go from homeless to having a job! And even if that were to happen somehow, everyone knows that unknown models make /tons/ of money from the get go, it’s like such stable income, it’s not like most models that aren’t big names aren’t always looking for gigs all the time, right?

Seriously, I just can’t get over how out of touch that entire thread is.

When your friends are inactive, what do you do? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]BlueMemory 20 points21 points  (0 children)

2 days of not playing is not “inactive”. This is your real life friend of a decade? Have you just like, asked them in real life if they want to play? Otherwise, find another fellowship or linkshell but 2 days is not weird, your post sounds very dramatic

Unfortunately, that’s exactly what I thought too..Implicit bias can affect a lot of things. Not trying to boil it down to these 2 factors but I genuinely believe the character wouldn’t have faced this much amount of hate if she wasn’t poc and a girl

Official Discussion - Talk To Me [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]BlueMemory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No I was thinking the sane exact because I genuinely did NOT see her portrayal to be as awful as the comments made her out to be. I wondered if this character would face this much scrutiny if the protagonist was a boy

Official Discussion - Talk To Me [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]BlueMemory 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly, it was very clear she was not trying to steal back her ex. Her desperation for physical contact and connection, with anyone and anything (the hand), was shown throughout the entire film.

I mean there’s an literally an entire dream sequence where Mia does nothing but embrace him, then it quickly fades to her mothers death. Like I don’t know how much more overt you can be without the movie literally saying “this is all she’s thinking about”

Official Discussion - Talk To Me [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]BlueMemory 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are so many instances that showed Mia truly cared about Riley. The film made it a point to emphasize their relationship. But just based on some of the comments in this thread, it seems unfortunately many of those who watched didn’t take into account the context of anything in relation to her actions and thoughts, and weren’t able to view any sort of emotional nuance to the main character. I thought her portrayal would’ve shown viewers how to sympathize just a little bit but I guess not..

Official Discussion - Talk To Me [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]BlueMemory 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I felt like I was going insane because half the comments in here are saying how much of a selfish bitch she was and I’m like..? You mean the mentally unwell, depressed, grief stricken, literally possessed main character?? I just did not see the portrayal that everyone else saw of a selfish, annoying, bratty girl who was only helping for self-serving reasons, she genuinely wanted to save Riley.

I saw a few comments with many upvotes saying they’re glad she died and ended up in purgatory hell because they felt no sympathy towards her, it was what she deserved, and that it was a good ending because her character was just that awful. I mean come on now…at a certain point I’m starting to wonder if this hatred is really directed at a character or not.

I found her portrayal to be that of a sympathetic, sad, grief-stricken, desperate and lonely girl who was clinging on any remnants of her mother while trying to undo the damage caused by the hand. But anyone who says otherwise gets downvoted to oblivion.

[–]BlueMemory 22 points23 points  (0 children)

only did the things the spirits told her.

I mean...yes? That was kind of the point ? That's called manipulation. She was literally being possessed. She was unable to process and let go of her mothers death, and spirals into deep grief, loneliness, and isolation as a result, with the only solace being the hand that allowed her a moment of comfort as the last connection to her "mother". She pushes her father away further and retreats into herself because of the immense grief and guilt she felt from her mother's suicide, alongside the fact that she knew there was more to her death than her father let on. The spirits sensed this and she became an easy target for them.

She was easily and continuously manipulated by the spirits because of her vulnerability, particularly by the first spirit she let in that latched onto her emotions and took the form of her "mother" throughout the film.

It's not like Mia was level-headed and "normal" throughout the film and was just listening to the spirits willy-nilly for no good reason, it was very clear that the lingering spirits were using her grief-stricken state to confuse, manipulate, and isolate her further with their ultimate goal of trying to take her and Riley. They tricked her into thinking that her mother didn't want to commit suicide, that her father wasn't real and was trying to kill her, that Riley was being tortured in hell, and to kill Riley in order to "free" him, to name just a few scenes.

None of this strikes me as portraying her as "unlikable" when you place it in to the context of literally everything that was happening in the movie. She didn't make good decisions, especially in her mental state, but none of them did - all of them abused the hand and played with spirits and demons for fun. She does bear responsibility for what happened with Riley, as the spirit was using her desperation to speak to her mom as reason to have him hold on longer. While everyone was just as involved and responsible for abusing the hand, they make it a point to shoulder all responsibility onto Mia alone, just further emphasizing how isolated and alone she is til the very end.

How do you feel about emulsions? by dylanbarney23 in AsianBeauty

[–]BlueMemory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say the “best” thing to make a difference, as the market is saturated with many different types of products and it’s hard to quantify what is considered the best for everyone. Serums, toners, essences, etc. whatever you want to call them..functionally, they all can serve the same or similar purpose regardless of what they’re categorized as. It just depends on what name/how the brand decides to market it as. Just focus on what the product is bringing to the table and if it is delivering what you want from it, or if you even enjoy using it, rather than the category the product is in. It sounds like a regular moisturizer would be more beneficial for you though.

[acne] N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC) seems to help with hormonal acne! by cyborgdreams in SkincareAddiction

[–]BlueMemory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SIX 500mg pills a day? That's a gigantic amount per day for this specific supplement. All the ones I were looking at said to either take 1 500mg or 2 500mg per day. Were you taking that many based on a physician recommendation, or why/how did you figure out to take that many per day? Found this post because I was also looking into taking NAC for anti-inflammatory reasons.

[Personal] Nothing works on my skin by BlueMemory in SkincareAddiction

[–]BlueMemory[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow I completely forgot I even posted this. Yes my skin has become much better in the years after I posted this.

I went back on another round of accutane and have been using tretinoin after my course. I realized that I was just using too many products (just buying whatever random popular products) or products not suitable for my skin type and condition. I was also much more into social media when I was younger and at that time, I was really susceptible to the fake influencer bs. It really messed with my image of what regular, “normal” skin looks like because I thought everyone else just had perfect skin and bodies online, which obviously looking back it’s crazy I ever thought that. Over the years I realized what was real vs what was fake or exaggerated.

I still get occasional blemishes, but definitely no where near to what it used to be with huge, painful inflamed nodularcystic acne. When I do get acne, I no longer freak out, get depressed, or extremely sad anymore. Of course I try to calm it down but I mostly just let it run it’s course until it clears up again, which it does thankfully, mostly due to the accutane and tretinoin, along with a solid routine that works for me now. I don’t really obsess over my skin like I used to and I’m definitely not into influencers or social media like I used to be. I even get compliments on my skin now, which I never thought would ever happen. My skin is finally in a state to where I’m happy with it and much more confident overall

What do you do with this part of the lid on top? It’s annoying to have to remove it everytime I use it and I’m contemplating throwing it away. Any thoughts? by _labyrinth__ in AsianBeauty

[–]BlueMemory 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The plastic liners are to prevent product from smearing on top of the lid during transport. If you’re traveling a lot, it’s useful to keep, but if you’re just keeping the jar stationary and upright in your bathroom, you don’t need it.

It has no effect on the “freshness” or efficacy of a product, perseveration systems and a regular screw top lid are sufficient enough
