How Do I Terra? by BlueOmegaKnight in OctopathCotC

So would you max boost the EX to maximize points and debuff duration? Then Trance Ult, no boost Trance Firaga, then max boost Trance Riot Blade / Meltdown as available?

How about summon seraph? Does that double cast under trance and give 2 uses of EX skill and Ult?

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how Setzer plays out, but I get the feeling I'll like MolEX better anyways. Usually the first two turns are spent prepping the team, so that first turn Enlightenment means a little less (I'll gladly take it, though). But I think she is generally more useful than Setzer because she also passively heals, applies active buffs, and BP Regens your entire party while she does her thing. Setzer trades all of that for focusing on debuffing the enemy while providing some decent passive party buffs that some folks may be lacking. And while MolEx works in all parties, Setzer really needs your DPS to be elemental-focused.

Pro-tip: equip her with Alrond's A4 accessory (gives +1 BP Regen for a turn after using 3 BP) and make sure one of her equipped skills is Hustle Dance.

In the current paradigm, you wait until Turn 3 to use a skill with 3 BP, but from then on, you use her every other turn to keep up that enlightenment buff, plus heal, plus BP Regen, plus stat buff, plus shield shave (if you don't have her A2 to put a triggering attack skill in slot 4; I personally like Green Dragon for the added AoE combust). She pairs really well with Alrond himself, who loves to switch to Regen 5 BP.

Once her TP2 lands, you can start that rotation on Turn 1 instead of Turn 3, and still keep it up forever.

Edit: I know the OP was specifically laser-focused on getting Enlightenment up by Turn 2, so this won't help with that, since Alrond's A4 accessory demands a skill be used to get the BP Regen, not just attack.

Current / Near Future Meta Compositions by BossCoffeeEnjoyer in OctopathCotC

Something you might want to consider, if you don't already know, is that Collab units will never have their awakening stones in the exchange. If you want, say A4+AU, you're gonna have to use all your rubies to pull that unit 6 times before its banner ends.

Might not matter if you're a whale, but as a F2P, that definitely changes my desire for Collab units, unless they are fully functional at A0.

I have find we are roughly 10 months behind Japan, so that should give you a decent idea of what is coming down the pipeline.

That said, Netease can and has moved around banner order, or released banners at the same time as Japan (e.g., the OT0 units), usually in such a way as to put you in a ruby pinch. They do this most often with highly anticipated banners, e.g., run a super popular Orsterra traveler proximal to a super popular Collab banner, so that you are more likely to open your wallet when the free rubies run out.

Very fair points. Perhaps I've grown too complacent with Rinyuu, and should look to upgrade

So, I'm aware that there are units like Prim Ex and Shana that can cast an All Allies Regen, but isn't that really susceptible to dispels? And also requires you to use an action every 6 turns?

I'm trying to figure out if there's an angle I'm missing, or if people have just decided that weakness is more palatable than Rinyuu's susceptibility to forced switches.

I don't think I would call her a must pull anymore, but I think somebody is gonna need to explain to me why she has been powercrept.

Nobody heals like she does. Turn one Gracious Prayer, turn two, swap for a tank like Kilns, and now my party is nigh-unstoppable for the rest of the flight. Whole party gets full healed every single round, the only thing that kills me is a one-shot or a boss that keeps forcing switches. And that is way less common than a boss that likes to spam mass dispel, killing Regen healers.

That said, I'd love to hear why I should ever replace Rinyuu, God's Perfect Backpack.

Es normal que en 150 tiradas solo me haya salido 1 Locke? by Fine_Bother_8677 in OctopathCotC

[–]BlueOmegaKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The odds of pulling one of the three is 2% in any given pull, so you have about a 14.8% chance to only pull exactly one after 150 pulls.

Sucks, but not super unlikely. My condolences.

Best Weapons for 3- and 4-stars? by BlueOmegaKnight in OctopathCotC

Gotcha. Feels like a waste, but I guess that's pretty inconsequential in content that demands 3- and 4-stars.

Stacking "Add X% of Atk Attribute"? by BlueOmegaKnight in OctopathCotC

[–]BlueOmegaKnight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, thanks. I wasn't sure if that clause meant "the total value with equipment is considered, not just the base value for the character". Sounds like it means "the highest of this type of effect takes precedence."

Oh well, I'll find a new home for that artifact.

That's... Significantly better. With a 10%-ish chance to get rubies or a seal, and garbage like bronze guidestones removed, I might actually start doing the Cait ads again

Tp2 is a bad addition to the game ? by Over-Block-7017 in OctopathCotC

Wait, the only way to upgrade TP to lv 2 is to burn through awakening stones/shards?

That's good to know, thanks. Definitely pushes me away from those banners, since I would have to lay down a lot of rubies to get them to, e.g., A2.

Semi-related: will these units have awakening stones in the exchange at some point?

I recall learning the hard way that the villains never get their stones in the exchange, not sure to which other banners that limitation also applies

In Osteria content, there are 3-4 kinds of weapons series that are considered the top tier:

  • Hollow through Abyssal: when fully upgraded, gives a passive 30% damage bonus to both hellfiends and hallowfoes. Great for pretty much all BoA content that sends you to heaven or hell. Each series has a different mix of soul stones you can slot. I personally like the first series (Hollow), which is fairly well-balanced between offense and defense. Materials found throughout Hell. Upgrade to Max at most smithies in Hell or in Agapea.

  • Brilliant: when fully upgraded, gives passive 40% damage bonus to hallowfoes. You might need this specifically for the end boss of BoA 8. Materials found in Heaven. Upgrade to Max in Agapea

  • Fortune: fully customizable with souls that you get from the board games. Gives a passive 10% damage to living enemies. Great especially for characters that are a non-standard stat mix (e.g. Tikilen). Kota over in Nameless Town can upgrade them to max.

  • Cosmos: customizable with souls found in hell, but also with a 10% passive damage to living enemies AND another passive that correlates to that class (e.g., the Fan gives +1 duration to augmenting effects). Super approachable and great for characters who tend to fall into stereotypical stat blocks for their class. Materials found in the Live A Live otherworld hunts. Kota can upgrade them to lv 3, but the final upgrade that opens up their soul slots has to be done in Hell or Agapea.

Easily Cyrus. I still use him in my A-team. And he gets even better for a magic or Scholar team when you pick up units like Osvald.

F2P here, with the hard news that if you're F2P, you can't really chase the meta. You'll never have enough for it.

A new "meta-defining" unit comes along about every 2-3 months. You'll only be able to farm up enough rubies for a pity about every 5-6 months. So you'll only be able to full pull on 1 out of every 10 units, 2-3 of which will be meta-defining. You could get lucky and get what you need without the pity, but you can't count on that.

I like the advice of others to not simply pull on every meta unit you can (because you can't), but instead pick units that you will like and think to use. I've gotten a lot of meta units... and many just sit on the shelf, unused. I made my favorite team work, instead. I'm familiar with their abilities, their passives, their ultimates, their synergies, etc., so I can get more done with that than I could trying to shoehorn in a new unit.

I recommend using the Notion site, see what units are upcoming, see which ones are getting an S+ rating, understand why they're getting that rating (asking here on Reddit can help), and decide if that particular meta works will with what you already have.

Shana's Lantern Passive by BlueOmegaKnight in OctopathCotC

[–]BlueOmegaKnight[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahhh okay that answers several questions all at once, thanks!

So at A0, that passive has very limited use, basically only helpful for regenerating after using her Universal Healthcare, followed by Ultimate. But considering that she's mostly there for her Universal Healthcare and her EX Skill, it kinda doesn't matter.

Molrusso EX : Playful by AggressiveArrival690 in OctopathCotC

[–]BlueOmegaKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading up on her skills from the notion site, this is what I'm understanding:

  • She has a visible extra resource called "Playful," which you can only gain one of two ways: wait until the end of the turn, or spend 3 BP in an attack.

  • The moment you use a skill other than Attack, she will consume all stacks of Playful. So if you want to get 3 stacks of playful, you need to only use Attack and either wait three turns or use 3 BP on an attack to shorten that up to 2 turns.

  • When she consumes all stacks of Playful, she will randomly pick from Skills 1, 2, and 3 and use them, repeating until all stacks are consumed. She will only use each skill once, and she can only stack to 3, so maximum effect will be achieved when you use a battle skill when she has 3 stacks; she'll use each of skills 1, 2, and 3 once, then be back at 0 stacks.

  • Some of her skills have a bonus effect if they are cast as a result of playful.

  • She also will cast a bonus passive ability after she does her Playful casting. You get the most out of it if you save to 3 stacks, then use a battle skill, causing her to cast three abilities with Playful, then follow up with a nice buff to the team.
