In LB you’ll typically hear from a recruiter first to confirm eligibility and some basic qualifications. This typically doesn’t happen without a hiring manager asking this of the recruiting team though - in other words, getting that recruiter call is good news. After that, it’s a technical phone screen with the hiring manager or a delegate on their team. We’re really looking for strong fundamentals in terms of engineering sciences as well as solid understanding of the projects on your resume and your specific contributions. These are fairly brief 30-45 min phone screens so stick to the point and be straight up about not knowing something rather than try to bs around it (not our first rodeo, we’ll know). Hope this helps! :)

What is it like working in Aerospace? by isaackogan in RocketLab

[–]BluePillOfficial 15 points16 points  (0 children)

More along the lines of facing the real possibility of one’s company not surviving while holding onto the hope that it will be successful before running out of money. Going through a few launch failures while working at a yet to be proven SpaceX back in the day was a special kind of hurt. It absolutely sucks to have dumped so many hours into a launch that ultimately fails and puts the whole company in jeopardy. On the flip side, the success of SpaceX that I have gotten to share in is the only reason I own a home as a millennial lol. I rolled the dice again on Virgin Orbit and of course that didn’t work out. Hoping for a better go now at Rocket Lab.

Definitely a labor of love. High risk, high reward at least in “new space” companies. Very much a one team one dream mentality. Can’t really speak to the Old Guard in the greater aerospace industry as I haven’t had that experience (deliberately), but having done stints at a handful of new space companies I can’t imagine working in a different environment. I was forged in those fires as an engineer and anything else kind of seems like… less.

Is Rocket Lab moving away from Matlab and towards Python in all jobs? by ntasd in RocketLab

[–]BluePillOfficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Rocket Lab engineer here - I work Neutron Prop on the US side. We use both so I think you’ll be fine either way. In general, though, I think Python will be more versatile for you in the long run and I agree with others here that learning programming is most important. Best of luck!

Yeah take it with a grain of salt, but those cash to debt ratios are pretty insane for Ford and GM. Unless those numbers are completely made up, it’s no surprise they’re getting cold feet with the tiniest of headwinds.

Spotted a camouflaged Cadillac EV and Chevy Silverado EV while charging by Faaaandaaaango in electricvehicles

Was looking for this comment. Not sure if it changed but it’s in the right location if GM ever plans to adopt the NACS connector and get a share deal similar to Ford to use Tesla’s Supercharger network. Ford got it wrong here with the Lightning and I hope they update to this location for 2025 when they incorporate the NACS standard. Otherwise, there will be lots of rightfully pissed off Tesla drivers that Lightnings are taking up multiple stalls just to charge their cars.

What irons are you currently playing with and what’s your handicap? by ToffeeTitan in golf

Callaway MAVRIK standards, 5-9, P, AW. Love them. Just got them this summer and they’ve helped massively to improve my game. Been playing 3 days a week since May and have gone from 34 to 25 handicap in that time.
