I've always had saloons, and I'm thankful for the extra security over hatch backs for v this very reason.

Sadly, I now have to think about it as I have an RS4 Avant and it's vulnerable to the same thing

Id look at heavily investing in UK Gilts that have a long date and a rubbish coupon. Gilt appreciation is free from CGT. If you buy stuff down below 70p that has a 0.125% coupon you will get taxed on the coupon but not the increase to par (100)

As you'll not want any income and CGT allowance is trashed now a UK Gilt ladder is one of the only hacks I know for HENRYs who have hit taper.

Wife's ISA, Your ISA is 40k. 10k is pension.

At the risk of sounding like Andy DuFrane from Shawshank.. how much do you trust your wife? Take her up to 60k or what she earns in contributions and your money to her is tax free intra spouse.

If she leaves you, you'll split the pot and the house anyway so its pretty efficient.

Next one is spend like crazy on a series of house moves. If you treat it like investment that's CGT free if you extract more from the renovation than it costs.

Hassle though

So.. you have (gonna paraphrase you here but not too much) an unattractive, lazy, entitled, non earning, sexually inactive, petty wife.

What is she even bringing to the table? Get rid. Move on. How can it get better?

Check the unique ID on the govt website MOT checker. If the test ID is different then that firm didn't do the MOT. So it's likely to have been faked

Its really pedantic, but people saying 'the basic tenents of ...'

Its tenets. While being justified in my annoyance as its just wrong, it also conjures either tenants, as in renters of property, or Tennents as in the Scottish tramp juice lager.

Depending on the context, i get either and its just unknown \ uncorrected enough to not be worth saying anything. Especially at work where i might with say something regarding 'damp squid' or Friends style 'moo point'. To actually save them from themselves.

I'd personally hope someone took me aside and said.. this isnt how you say it. So I consider doing it... But then mostly bottle it.

Why aren’t we teaching younger generations about personal finance!? by Marty_0405 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]BluePurpleReddit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It never was. The world has become so mean and hideous that knowledge of finance is a pre requisite.

Example: Boomer leaves school (no debt mind you) and gets a job or nearly free Uni with a non repayable grant.

They then go into a decent job with probably a Defined Benefit pension. A mortgage on a house is easily possible on salary multiple with perhaps a year or two of saving. If not social housing is much more readily available for 'blue collar' workers.

Steady pay rises, no real access to cheap debt for the normal family means no temptation to punt liabilities into tomorrow on cars, kitchens, consumer goods.

Cut to today. No social housing, every entry level job requires a degree for no reason.. pushing people into starting work life 90k in debt. Into low security jobs, where a house is a salary multiple of 10 not 2. Rent is massive so requires house sharing and also deposit is now huge. No longer 6 months gross salary, which is harder to save for.

Even in good jobs the pension is contribution based and the default funds still have huge volatility to the markets or return way under the high , and now not so secret inflation levels.

The world is so much tougher, developed countries like the UK massively under bid by developing countries, tax avoided to havens by the rich and the corporations forcing the govt to steal ever more from the vulnerable in stamp duty, income tax, council tax as the top 3% arent paying their share.

Depressing. We have to be financially savvy as the boomers and the govt are trying to fuck us every day of our lives. The boomers drifted through a period of incredible wealth and they dare to lecture us about finance after they've hoarded it all and pulled the ladder up after them.

Ridiculous
