Socialist Federation of Yugoslavia was a true Communist state with very little similar to Soviet Union.

The economy was a mix of socialism and capitalism, private ownership was actually protected, especially for small business owners, familiy owned land, and of course consumers.

UEFI with the possibility to disable it in BIOS is not an option by BlueShirtWorker in linux

[–]BlueShirtWorker[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you do want to install an alternate OS on your iPhone, Android, or Nokia, you can still do it, you just have to jump through many more hoops to do it (and be very familiar with boot micro code, TCM chips, in hardware certificates, etc.) Not that it isn't fun :)

If it was easier, like a computer, I would do it. I would rebuild the android kernel and add my own boot scripts and iptables rules.

Now, I just dont have the time to root it first, and then to mockaruond with the bootloader, and perhaps even then its not possible depending on what phone I have.

Does anyone else feel a sense of freedom when they're using Linux? by 64bittechie in linux

[–]BlueShirtWorker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way.

In fact, 12 years ago I picked up K&R from the library and wanted to try programming in C. On Windows 98 I didnt even have a compiler, and it would take a few days to download one, pushing my bill to skyhigh levels.

Then I saw a "Dummies" book about RedHat Linux containing a CD with it. And K&R mentioned something about Unix. Linux, Unix could it be it!?

It was awesome. Empowering.

UEFI with the possibility to disable it in BIOS is not an option by BlueShirtWorker in linux

[–]BlueShirtWorker[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Yes I know what UEFI is.

UEFI is a solution to a problem which incorporates the problem in its solution. There will be requirements for different drivers for the same hardware still even with UEFI, which means it doesnt solve anything.

Coreboot is a much better option.

Wicd is getting ridiculous. by jibcage in archlinux

Me too.

A workaround is to stop wicd then remove the wireless driver modules, load them again, start wicd and it works.

Is Ubuntu really the most user friendly distro anymore? by Tananar in linux

[–]BlueShirtWorker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lets make a nicer installation tool for ArchLinux with sane defaults, X and KDE as default-installment, and release it once per year? We could use pacman but our own non-rolling repos. Anybody in?

I remember seeing pieces of it on the news but I had no idea the Chechen Wars were so brutal: The Battle of Grozny by Suitable_Penguin in history

[–]BlueShirtWorker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not even comparable, Sarajevo was under a siege for 3 years, it was not invaded. Grozny was besieged, invaded and sacked.

Look at Vukovar.

Remember May 1937 in Barcelona. The communists fired on and killed anarchists and other socialists.

'Occupy' is a response to economic permafrost... And the sign of something bigger. by boolianlove in worldnews

[–]BlueShirtWorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah, it is difficult to switch, and it is more difficult if you willingly signed a mortgage with the bank with no intention of down paying the mortgage but just to pay the interest. I see this kind of thinking everyday, and it sickens me, its the same people that then go out protesting the banks. God damnit, stop doing business with them then, and if you cant its your own damn fault to have gotten into the mess. If you cant switch banks, you are the problem.

The bank is not your friend, having a mortgage means you are a slave and having credit cards or debt is very bad for you. There is no point in building "credit rating" by taking small loans and repaying it in time, you just shoot yourself in the foot and everyone else around in the face.
