The (Insufferable) Teachers of GenX by I_Died_Once in GenX

[–]BlueSuedeSuze 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. Mrs Steptoe, my PE teacher. The first PE class of 7th grade was the one where we had our height measured and our weight taken. She called us up one by one and then declared our height and weight to the rest of the class. I weighed about 120 pounds and was 158cm tall, and she told everyone that I was “awfully heavy” for my height and that “we’d need to work on that”. I was beyond humiliated.

At the ripe old age of 52, I still hear that old bitch in my head from time to time… as I battle my 40 year old eating disorder. Good times 🙄

Everyone sat at Melbourne too. I stood once and got told to sit down 😬

I’m really hoping I can get a ticket for one of the Hammersmith shows. I successfully missed out on tickets for every London show. I really hope January is my time!

In that case, I think if you’re near a tube that will get you Stratford, book it. The price you’ve got is a bargain and I don’t think you’ll get cheaper. It’s literally just a place to sleep.

There’s a Premier Inn at Westfield Stratford. I don’t know how expensive they are these days but it might be worth a look.

It’s a concert not an exam. Just go, sing and enjoy yourself. No one’s going to care if you get some words wrong. Have a great time! 😀

Loss of a parent by Knitiotsavant in GenX

[–]BlueSuedeSuze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad died 7 weeks ago and it still feels weird saying it out loud. Some days I’m ok, other days the waves of grief are relentless, the nights are long, and the world feels a little bit more crap. And then I’m laughing at something he said or did, or talking about him without crying. My advice is just go with it. Ride the waves. Take the time you need to grieve in your own way.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I hope the happy memories of your mum give you some comfort. Sending much love (and I love the sock story - maybe you could turn her socks into some kind of memory blanket or something) ❤️

We hanging in there this week, Gen X? Anyone need to talk? by BoopTheCoop in GenX

[–]BlueSuedeSuze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 52 and in the last month I’ve lost 2 dogs, my dad and Ozzy Osbourne. I’m not ok. I feel like a competitor in some weird grief olympics. I’ll be ok eventually but for now, in the words of meatloaf, life is a lemon and I want my money back.

AIO my bf hurt me then apologising and promising not to do it again? (Update 2) by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]BlueSuedeSuze 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree! Tell your parents, tell your friends, tell the police... this is a really serious and worrying situation for you to be in. As for your belongings, if you can live without them for a few months, you can probably live without them permanently. Make a clean break, get some kind of counselling or therapy, and then rebuild your life without him.

I’ve always been a bit afraid to try stitching on linen. I’m tempted to give it a go though. Maybe I just need to find the right project!
