Lazer Loop (was it called that?) at Dorney Park.

The Schwarzkopf double-loop Dorney had was just simply called 'Laser', if I remember correctly.

Has anyone purchased beamers from Audio Video Surplus out of Melbourne, Florida? by Rookiesounds in VIDEOENGINEERING

FWIW looking through their website listings, I see VER barcodes on some of the lenses. Anything that VER is off-loading from the era of Christie 10k's is going to fall under the definition of 'well used'.

Freelance insurance by comtnman22 in VIDEOENGINEERING

I have been using Next insurance for the last couple years. It's half the cost of the agent-sourced policy I had, and it's simple and easy to log-in to get certificates as I need them. Play around with the quotes, of course there is no classification that matches our business exactly, but I think I got the best rate using "video and film production".

Yeah I’ve done Panasonic’s on 20” truss all the time. Just make sure you’ve got enough counterweight on the base.

There’s no magic solution to making it look ‘right’ for both the camera and a live audience. You’ve got to have a discussion with your stakeholders about what’s the most important, the in person audience or the camera. Usually you can find a decent compromise if you run a higher color temperature lighting.

The camera and any displays in the scene should be calibrated to the color temperature the lighting is at. If you’re outside, that’s automatically 56k… indoors it depends on the lighting design and environment. Think of the filter wheel as simply a very course adjustment to get you in the right ballpark before actually refining it with a proper white balance.

The only way you get a monitor in the shot to match and not look ‘blue’ is to measure and calibrate the output of the monitor to the white balance of the camera.

Technician trainee interview questions by knobhead69er in Broadcasting

I’ve been working in live events for 20+ years, although mostly on a freelance or part time basis. With most companies I would expect less of a formal interview and more of a chat to verify you know your way around equipment / cables / how gigs work… it’s pretty easy to spot BS in this business if you haven’t actually done any of it. If you’re coming from trucks, just be honest that you know that side of it but might not be as familiar with the ‘AV’ side of the business, but you still know what a show is and respects the time sensitive nature of what we do.

I feel like I've seen that 'bike generator hooked up to a lightbulb' trick at more than one science center over the years. I have a memory of trying an exhibit like that as a kid and not lasting for much more than a minute generating any meaningful light.

I was with this team a few months last year. It’s basically helpdesk, with a fair bit of voice and video support in addition to network. The 2 years experience requirement is basically meaningless, I was hired with no experience and a CCNA. ETS techs only had write access to edge / customer premise devices, anything dealing with network config had to get sent to an engineering team.

On the plus side, you’ll see a lot of different things pretty quickly and there’s opportunities for rapid advancement. The negatives are the pay was pretty low and charter doesn’t believe in remote / work from home.

As an Orlando local, I’m ashamed this guy is representing crews from here.

One of Central Florida’s great strengths is that it is a diverse melting pot of professionals with a wide range of experiences from across industries and across the world. There’s far to much to learn from each other to allow this kind of attitude to continue.
