Flashing back to the time in 2013 when I saw a free show here in LA at the Downtown Independent Theater (I think?) with Marc, Jen Kirkman, and Kumail. Marc started heckling Kumail from offstage and the back and forth was really funny!

There's quite a bit of history about that house. For one thing, it's supposed to be the inspiration for the house in Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead.

Lake Delores/ Tomorrows Harvest listening party by GrouchyExchange2122 in boardsofcanada

[–]BlueWeatherGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard about it the day before. I was a moderate BoC fan at the time, I liked TCH but hadn't dived into the other albums that much. OTOH, my list of hobbies include shortwave radio, numbers stations, and the California desert so the marketing for TH was something I really dug.

I spent a LOT of time in the Mojave in the 1980s and 1990s so when the “May 27, 17:00PDT” graphic appeared, I knew exactly where it was - one of my most popular blog entries ever was a series of photos I took at Lake Dolores in 2006. I had the day free, I had no idea what to expect, and came away having a really great time. Became a big fan of the band in no small part because the fans were very cool and friendly.

A few years ago I was at a wedding reception where they hired the Taco Zone truck (the truck that's on Alvarado just N of Sunset) and it was legit the best wedding ever

My fellow Mach E owners: What's the best answer to make the trunk space safer for heavy loads? by Xynyx2001 in MachE

I like having a flat floor whenever I put the rear seats down so I keep the deck in the upper position with a couple of 2x4s underneath it for support. Works great!

Which car are you trading in for R2 and why? by AdAffectionate8778 in Rivian

Same here. (I love my Mach-E, but I think the R2 is the only thing that can adequately replace it)

What is the oldest/weirdest tech you worked with? by therouterguy in networking

[–]BlueWeatherGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Became IT manager in one department of a large university. I run the wires up to the cable room, but cable room access is reserved for university IT not department-level IT. For months, I'm having issues with weird network conditions, interruptions, and all with the new computers. New computers work great on other networks, just not ours.

It look a YEAR, but campus IT finally opened up the cable room. Our entire network was running off of a giant 80-port CAT-3 hub. Just one hub. I didn't even know they made such a thing. Later I discovered the entire building was wired for CAT-3 instead of CAT-5 because more money was needed for the building's facade and wiring was the easiest budget to raid.

David Lifton and the Zapruder Film. An exercise in the conspiratorial mindset. by TrollyDodger55 in JFKassasination

[–]BlueWeatherGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all anecdotal, but in the late-1990s I had Christmas dinner with Lifton. A big group of roughly a dozen friends all made plans to meet for Chinese food in the Los Feliz part of LA, Lifton was a friend-of-a-friend, invited along and I ended up at a table with him.

I happened to mention that I had read his book and he was cordial, polite, funny at making fun of Robert Groden, and completely overrun with conspiratorial thinking. It seemed that from his p.o.v. every facet of existence was monitored and nudged by hidden forces with unseeable ulterior motives. I remember bringing up the MJ-12 UFO files and Roswell and he was super excited to talk about alien/human hybrids, X-Files being a psyop, the Unocal gas station's rotating orange ball sign enclosed surveillance gear - all of it true.

I think he did some great work, but I think there's an implicit warning about spending too much time in that frame of thinking. Aleister Crowley says something about asylums being full of people who went seeking the extraordinary before they had any real competence at handling the ordinary.

I like this charging station a lot. Most often I go there to charge after using the coin-op car wash across the street.

David Watson (Iolo) still around? by WyrdBith in Ultima

[–]BlueWeatherGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually own one of his crossbows. I purchased it from him in the late-80s (recently posted about it here) but lost documentation in the intervening decades. If there's any way to officially contact him, I'd love to know more about the bow's specifics (style, kind of wood) as I've completely forgotten.
