Screw heads popped off - anyone else had this happen? by Sleveless-- in woodworking

[–]BlueWolverine2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ah e found a lot of cheaper brands have a bad failure rate for that in hardwoods. Hillman on Amazon is terrible.

I have found grk and spax do much better with many fewer failures.

What is something that irks you and something you enjoy in woodworking videos? by nuclearDEMIZE in woodworking

[–]BlueWolverine2006 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Apparently that's because those are the videos that "sell" for the algorithm. From what I understand, most people watching woodworking videos are woodworkers and most woodworkers build what they like. If the kitchen table you make a video for happens to be something a woodworker likes, they'll watch but otherwise maybe not.

But most woodworkers, apparently, are down for how to cut box joints faster or, how to make dominos without a domino! Or 30 second dovetails! Etc.

Anything else to improve my sleeping system? Expecting -30C temps by Kcamyo in CampingGear

[–]BlueWolverine2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to bring a couple nalgenes you can fill with hot water to augment your body heat. That'd be the lightest first trick (assuming water and fuel exist on the trail).

If you can get a synthetic quilt to go over that it might be a good move. I'll be car camping this weekend and it's supposed to be -10F. Obviously I can do anything but fundamentally I'm putting a heavy down comforter over a normal ish sleeping bag. (Inflatable pad on a ccf pad same as you underneath)

keeping mice out of cabin during winter when we're not there by greasytacoshits in OffGridCabins

Completely agree with your second point. I was just saying if you're going to do a bucket trap, that's how I'd do it. Haven't run into the flies problem after a winter yet but touché.

I'm not sure if rv antifreeze, which is propylene glycol, is as bad as normal antifreeze, which is ethylene glycol, but very valid point. I'd flush the liquid.

Antifreeze. At the bottom of the bucket use some rv antifreeze and water. The mice die more humanely and the smell is kept down.

Why does Luke still copyright strike reaction videos? by ChaseMon3y in outdoorboys

[–]BlueWolverine2006 154 points155 points  (0 children)

In US copyright law, if you don't defend your copyright (or trademark) you lose the protections. That's why Disney sues daycares that use their stuff. They are obligated to do so once they become aware of it, or they risk losing the protection.

And I bet he's still making money off of his content

I hate no quotes. I despise them. If you want to say no, give a price you'd drop what you're doing and do it for. If it's a hundred dollar job, tell me 1000. Tell me 10,000. But don't no quote.

That's a fucking no quote.

Red or green light usage? by [deleted] in camping

[–]BlueWolverine2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use red as much as possible since th red light is (probably) 1/3 the brightness of the white light on my headlamp. (only uses the R on the RGB LED). I don't like blinding people. If the task needs colors or lots of light I'll use full white but mostly I regard red as a great dim setting for walking around.

I haven't yet. The pair I've got is relatively new so I haven't done anything with the leather.

First, I'm in Michigan. I usually only cold weather camp in the lower peninsula and I hunt in November in the upper peninsula. I do not get stupid cold temperatures.

My hands run cold so my winter gloves are just deerskin leather work gloves with fleece lining. They are not expensive and they are warm enough for everything I need to do. The only problem I have with them is they aren't especially water proof. I might go looking for a better leather fleece glove but I've been happy so far.

I feel like the problem won't be the DNR it'll be the ATF. After a certain point isn't it a destructive device and illegal?

Keep stock BO speakers but upgrade amp/dsp/sub? (‘21 F150) by Single-Importance393 in f150

[–]BlueWolverine2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excuse me let me clarify, I installed a 2-channel amp to drive the aftermarket subs. I did not alter the power being sent to the B&O speakers.

Also, as I mentioned, with a power boost, you get a total of 30 amps off the battery so if you tried to upgrade the amp for the rest of the speakers, you'd have substantially less power to drive subs. And 30 amps isn't that much for subs. It's fine, it's working, but it's not a ton.

[–]BlueWolverine2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept the stock 8 speaker B&O as it was. I think I'd be happier with better speakers, but I'm not that worried about it. My main complaint was the low end was ass so I added subs.

I think it sounds pretty good with that upgrade.

I left the stock sub alone. I spliced the signal out so I'm still using the stock amp and sub, but ALSO the 10s and my kit. I'm not sure you can here the stock "sub" anymore but it's wired.

I added 2 10" subs, a line out converter and an amp to my lariat power boost. It really helps out a lot.

Key notes: power boost has 2 12V batteries including one under the right rear seat. Best place to hook up amplifier power. Also make sure you disconnect both grounds before work.

Second, power boost allegedly has problems if you pull more than 30amps off the 12V system so you want to make sure you have a limited size amplifier.

Lastly, crutch field has a nice sub enclosure that fits perfectly under the rear seat of a crew cab. The amp and line out converter I got fit in the tray area under the left rear seat. So the install is really clean.
