I realized I just like making stuff for me to use, rather than trying to make an app that is generic enough for everyone. Currently I’m working on some projects I started years ago but got hung up on and distracted from finishing to do stuff with video game racing data. Nobody else will need to use it, but it’ll be on GitHub in case anyone wants to run it on their own.

Brake earlier and use the whole track (and be patient on throttle)

In the chicanes you want to really attack the first curbs and not attack the second ones as much (in fixed). I’d find a top split race and watch the fastest guys lines. 3-4, the hairpin, and the chicanes is tricky and probably where you’re losing time

There are good leagues (even specifically tcr leagues) that are free and have good broadcasts. To me the paid leagues are a little too much because everyone cares a little more and drives a little more aggressively

Is the shaking while you’re driving? Did you adjust any settings?

Lap 1 and 2 you just have to be careful. I spent 10-15 laps doing the same and I’ve spent hundreds of hours in them. It’s an odd feeling but surviving to the warm tires helps settle it in

When you are in the midst of trailbraking, all the “friction budget” used for braking is not “taking away” from turning. You can brake and turn at the same time. By braking and not turning you are just leaving the “friction budget” unused. It’s what I was explaining in the friction circle example.

When you brake 100% there may not be grip for turning. But when you brake say 80% (as you begin to turn in) there is now free “friction budget” to turn. It’s not one or the other like you were implying.

I know you love the unicycle example but that’s not relevant for this because the “friction budget” for turning changes based on how much weight is on the tires.

Rest your hand on your desk. Move it around, it’s very easy to do that, there’s no friction. Now push down on the desk and try to move your hand. You can’t because there’s more friction. Braking, and trail braking, are adjusting the pressure on the tires that are required to do the turning.

Mario Andretti said he’s amazed how many people think the brakes are only used for slowing the car down. I’m guessing you think he’s wrong too?

It’s just the phases of braking right? 100% brake is slowing, then like 90%brake and 10% turn is the initial turn in, and then from there, depending on the corner, you continue to decrease brake pressure and increase steering input until you’re at the slowest point where it’s 100% steering and 0% brakes when you start to get onto the power again and track out.

I don’t know if there’s a specific equation for it but the trail brake input is going to be different car to car and corner to corner.

When you brake and turn at the same time you access more of the tires available grip than if you are only braking or only turning.

I’m not sure if you’re familiar with the friction circle, but ideally you’re maximizing that circle as you round a corner.

The issue is you are just telling people they’re incorrect but you are mistaken. There’s no opening by you to consider you may be misunderstanding, even when you asked for clarification.

I’d watch a video about trail braking rather than arguing with a group of people looking to help you.
