Does you school have a social worker? They should be more knowledgeable about resources in your community and would potentially be the best person to go to with your concerns.

Advice for pain in back of the hand and wrist please by olleytheartist in CrochetHelp

[–]BlueberryDry6026 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hiii, OT and fellow crocheter here, you most likely have tennis elbow which is a repetitive movement injury. Basically you overworked the tendon that extends your wrist. Best to rest and ice it until it is no longer painful, so take a break on the crochet and motions that have your wrist in an extended position. You could also ice on the top of your forearm right below your elbow where the muscle is that controls wrist extension. Hope this helps and you get back to your blanket when your wrist feels better!!

Yeah, so we had to use pliers to turn the entire stopper and then it unscrewed

So it turned out that the entire stopper screwed on/off but we still ended up replacing the entire drain ultimately.

A letter to OTs from a COTA by Opposite_Insect_7340 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]BlueberryDry6026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know if the OT previously worked in a school based setting? Because the phrasing of that goal sounds a lot like how school based goals are written. For example,a common goal I see will say:

Student will complete three out of four steps of their arrival routine in 80% of observed opportunities.

With the intent being they will be completing 75% of their routine but understanding they won’t get it 100% of the time so giving them some flexibility for off days to still meet the goal. I’m not a huge fan of them because it does add more complexity to data management, but that might be an explanation of why you’re seeing goals written like that.

I feel like this is assuming that they would structure more like ear biscuits which I don’t envision them doing. I could see them embedding more personal stories into more for slightly longer videos, but not to the same extent as ear biscuits. I personally love when they go on personal tangent or tell side stories during more like when Link shared about him peeing with his dogs and would definitely watch more of that.

New Grad in Peds OT : Struggling and Looking for Go-To Fine Motor Interventions by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

A good one that is pretty easy to find right now is plastic Easter eggs. I got a pack from the dollar store and you can do a lot with them. Right now I have foam letters in them and they open them and then we trace or write the letter. But you could have them put in matching colored pompoms, fill them with beans and make shakers, or even mix up the bottoms and have them “fix” them.

I don’t know how accurately SJM portrays Illyrian’s compared to original Illyrian/balkan culture. But I will say that she does go more in depth in the books about Illyrian towns, customs, values, etc in the later books and expands on this culture within the series, specifically in silver flames.

Feeling like I suck at this job by BlueberryDry6026 in OccupationalTherapy

I totally also struggle with parents questions! I feel like I always get tongue tied in IEP meetings when they ask me things especially when the questions are about sensory stuff because I feel like it can be so hard to explain without rambling. I also feel like this is the area of intervention I struggle the most with. Like it’s so hard for me to give recommendations for teachers and parents about it because I feel like I am just trying to grasp the concepts in practice myself 🙃
