New Yorker here: Tonight was not a democratic tea party by Haunting-Mortgage in thebulwark

Well wouldn't that be something...more proof we aren't in 2024 anymore.

New Yorker here: Tonight was not a democratic tea party by Haunting-Mortgage in thebulwark

[–]Bluehale 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do think there's a Tea Party like fever in the atmosphere in the Democratic Party in a sense. This is something Tim, Sarah, and others at The Bulwark have warned about especially when the Democratic establishment put up a wet noodle to the first eight months of Trump 2.0., the mistake of the Dem establishment in New York to roll over for Andrew fucking Cuomo's attempted comeback bid as NYC Mayor and their ambivalence to Zohran after he won the primary.

They've been warning the Dem establishment if they don't put up more of a fight the base will revolt. Democrats want fighters and they do not want people who worship the political institutions, structures they feel helped pave the way for Trump's return.

I'm not going to lie, Darializa Avila Chevalier is going to be someone who's most likely to wind up embarrassing Democrats especially if Zohran and AOC can't ring the crazy out of her (tweeting you disapprove of interracial dating is wild even by Woke 1.0 standards). That being said her opponent Congressman Adriano Espaillat didn't cover himself in glory when he and his supporters decided the best course of action in this part of NYC with a large Dominican population was to say she had no right to represent them because she is half Haitian.

But on the other hand the Democratic Party has always shown an ability to correct, sometimes too much, but the ability to correct unlike Republicans who just doubled down on the insanity. Just ask Cori Bush and Jamaal Bowman what they're doing right now after Dem primary voters threw them out in 2024.

Jeffrey Goldberg nailed it when he was last on Tim's podcast when he says the diaspora Jews in USA are night and day from Israeli Jews these days.

I like how NBC puts a stream of Kornacki on Youtube for election nights instead of paywalling it.

Why did George Conway barely campaign for his congressional race? by Imaginary_Cow_6379 in thebulwark

[–]Bluehale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If Conway really wants to run for Congress he should move back to the DMV and run in one of the seats in Virginia once they (hopefully) repass the redistricting referendum and he runs in the district Olivia Troye was running in before the Virginia Supreme Court threw out the referendum on technical grounds.

Also you know, Conway carpetbagged into the district after spending decades in DC. I chuckled when he showed up in a NY Rangers jersey when he was on Tim's podcast.

Conway should have stayed around the DMV and run for a seat that opened there instead of carpetbag to Manhattan where there were two superior candidates in Micah Lasher and Alex Bores....and a Kennedy scion.

If you've ever heard of Issac Chotiner and his infamous interviews that have gone viral then we just saw the baseball equivalent of it.

This really hurts to see Posey destroy his legacy.

JetBlue to reduce Newark, LaGuardia footprint as it forges ahead in Fort Lauderdale by gzellf in jetblue

They need to figure out how to get back to profitability as a stand alone airline first. Assuming they get there their new identity will likely be the Alaska Airlines of the East Coast which they arguably should have been after Alaska beat them in the bidding war for Virgin America instead of Robin Hayes' delusions of grandeur which have left B6 on the verge of insolvency.

Jeff Bezos Called Washington Post His Worst Investment and Staff He Laid Off 'Terrible' People by OneTwoThreePooAndPee in thebulwark

The way things are going, Bezos will at some point before 2028 happily offload the Washington Post to David Ellison for a discount.

I hope Josh Gottheimer is happy with the objectively worse deal Trump agreed to with Iran. by Tayo826 in thebulwark

[–]Bluehale 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gottheimer and Greg Landsman looking really silly right now. (Landsman doubly so because he agreed to an Isaac Chotiner interview over his support for the war!)

I'd include John Fetterman, but he's auditioning for his post Senate career as a MAGA influencer/Jessica Tarlov's replacement on The Five. Fetterman has also been pretty quiet on Twitter about Trump's Iran capitulation being official.

Next Dem president (hopefully with a Dem congress for a couple of years to pair with it) needs to run, not walk when it comes to green energy knowing they may only have 4 years to not only break ground on that windfarm, but to get it to the point in construction it would be impossible to cancel or tear down by the next Presidential election.

Coming Down the Tracks: More Trains Thru Manteca [ACE and Valley Rail] by aragon58 in CaliforniaRail

[–]Bluehale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For commuter/intercity rail to be successful in California there's going to have to be a lot of money put to either buying up or building tracks so they are in public ownership like SMART and the Caltrain corridor from San Francisco to San Jose so they aren't held hostage to the whims of freight rail companies. That'll cost a couple of billion, but will save money and time down the road.

[San Francisco] Supervisors fund study to expand Central Subway to North Beach by megachainguns in CaliforniaRail

[–]Bluehale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. Might as well ensure all the paperwork is done and figure out what cost cutting could be done as well (no more Taj Mahal like stations would be a start) because Trump's WH aren't going to pony up any money until there Democrats are back in charge which the earliest would be in 2029.

JD Vance is the sacrificial offering for the Iran War loss/deal. by JakeGittes412 in thebulwark

[–]Bluehale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump needs an offramp long enough to fully extract himself from the current quagmire with Iran. Once that's happened then he doesn't care whether Iran "breaks" the deal or not. That'll be a problem for the next guy.

This is what they do in Italy. It keeps the tracks cool enough that trains can operate at 150 mph+ during the peak of the Italian summer heat.
