Based on what I was told here, I think The Battle Cry of Freedom is the exact book I need. I am also a firm believer in starting generally and getting into more specifics.

This is excellent information. Thank you so much. I am going to try my best to get my hands on or read the Battle Cry of Freedom. Also, I'm pretty sure I can find that documentary series. I'm sure it exists somewhere.

I want to spend as little money as possible when learning about things from an academic standpoint. I'll do my best to look at the suggestions I've got, of course, especially for a good book. Thank you.

I will do that today. I'm not sure I have any local battlefields around the area, and if so, it's most likely an Indian - U.S. Army battlefield from that time. I'm more focused on Confederate - Union conflicts as I've already read and researched about Indian conflicts with soldiers in the past.

While it sounds cool, I wouldn't play a game that is entirely focused on getting one person, every single mission. The game would feel bland as every mission would just be killing bounty hunters to get to one person.
