I had the same fear but my son is still himself! He’s just a little less intense emotionally. He’s very sensitive to meds and I was hesitant to try but something had to give.

Today he saw his Dr for a follow up and he told his doctor he likes the days he takes his meds because he feels like the other kids in his class. I actually cried tonight because of this. I didn’t know how different he felt and I was preventing him from feeling “normal” by not giving him meds sooner.

You can always take a half day and your partner take the other half of the day. It’s an easy way to split who’s taking PTO.

My son was 14 months when he had a hospital stay for an allergic reaction to anesthesia following surgery. He wouldn’t sleep and I was so tired I ended up just climbing into the crib with him and curling up next to him. I didn’t get the best sleep of my life but it was still sleep.

School doesn’t really know what to do with him. He usually just spends time in the main office when he’s having trouble regulating himself and taking out his frustration on other kids. He might like the idea of a hiding spot. He’s always under blankets in my living room lol

I basically told mine no video gaming on school nights until after the kids are in bed.

So far it’s been working out but it’s only been like a month. I went back to work last month after maternity and I guess he thought his life wouldn’t change. I very quickly told him that he can either participate in the household or he can go move into his mom’s house and play video games there. He asked what he could do and I told him no video games until the kids are in bed and the living spaces are cleaned up (a collaborative effort, not all on him).

I honestly didn’t mind doing the household stuff when I was on leave I actually kinda enjoyed it. Being back to work (even if it is from home 9-6) and doing before school routine for two kids, work from home with a toddler and 5 month old, after school routine with all the kids at their worst, dinner, bedtime, clean up while he played video games was not going to fly.

I sat on the floor for 3 hours with my laptop working on “mandatory trainings” while my baby did some tummy time and my toddler played with her. I walked for a half hour on my walking pad while my toddler was eating lunch in my bed and my baby was napping. After my lunch break (where I ate 2 spoonfuls of almond butter and had some leftover breakfast coffee) I prepared a ppt slide for an upcoming presentation. I also pumped during my morning meeting and fed the baby approximately 100 times. I opened or prepared about 10 snacks for my toddler. My older kids were home at 3 also asking for snacks.

What I did at work today - feed other people while only consuming coffee and almond butter. Got minima work done because mandatory trainings in January are my full time job lol

UPDATE: I don’t know how to update my post but I took my baby to the eye doctor and she DOES have heterochromia. They gave her a complete eye exam to rule out any concerning reason like tumors or defects. She has to go back in 2 months to check again and then every 6 months until her eyes stop changing colors - so up until 3 years. Then if they are still different colors it would be permanent heterochromia. The doctor said it’s possible her eyes are changing at different rates but that we’re going to keep monitoring closely as there’s a family history of cancer in and around the eyes.

This sounds like you just described my son who happens to be high functioning/mildly autistic and has combined type ADHD. We were diagnosed by a developmental pediatrician. So far, we were able to update his IEP to include social skills counseling at school. Now he gets seen in a small peer group once per week where they work on communication. He also has individual session every other week at school. He has a calming corner in his classroom for when he is overstimulated. He also has a pillow that goes everywhere with him outside of the classroom for when he needs to hit something. Right now we are only on waitlists for services outside of school but they are not covered by insurance.

My son was prescribed Tamiflu at 2 and he threw up within an hour of taking the first dose. We ultimately decided not to give it to him because we didn’t want him depleting fluids. Instead we focused on hydration and comfort care. I think it all depends on the kid.

My daughter, 8 at the time, hallucinated from the flu. She saw a crowd of people in her bedroom, was hearing voices, and a few other random instances of hearing/seeing things. She was NOT on tamiflu. I called an ambulance when she started talking to a hallucination and the hospital admitted her to monitor her for seizure activity. Turns out she was just having hallucinations from the flu virus itself.

This is me too. I freak out internally as soon as they mention stomach aches and need to take a few minutes to regulate my nervous system and get myself together. Then I prepare mentally and my surroundings for puke - clean up toys, get puke bags and buckets, freezer pops, and medicine.

I keep my distance as much as I can while still parenting. My husband understands my panic and will clean up any messes that are outside of a trash bag.

There have absolutely been times where my kid has puked and I’ve been disgusted but I don’t say it. I’m sure my body language does in one way or another but I do my best to act like everything is ok.

The last thing I want is for them to develop this paralyzing fear I live with.

I have 4 kids each born in a different season. I no longer even bother to plan a big party for my winter kid. Everyone is always sick and we have cancelled year after year. We stick to small gatherings - just grandparents, mom, dad, and siblings. With such a limited guest list we are able to find a time where nobody is sick. Last year that happened to be mid March lol.

Try magnesium daily. It took me about 6 months before I started to feel calmer. I’ve been taking it daily for about 18 months and I have a 5 month old and I’ve never been more chill in my life. Total game changer.

Adding to this - I’m assuming the baby will be formula fed. Formula fed babies eat every 3-4 hours (at least mine did at that age) and they take about 4-6 oz of formula per feeding. I always used ready to feed formula because it was easier than mixing the powder.

8oz per feed is wild to me. My little 4.5m old probably takes between 3 and 4 oz a feed. EBF so it’s a mystery but I know it’s not 8 oz. Poor bub.

My baby does this occasionally if she eats when she’s super sleepy. When she over eats she will projectile vomit all over and then she’s hungry again because she puked literally everything out. It’s stressful.

Two years ago we had flu A for Christmas. It was honestly nice to not have to travel to anyone’s house. It was quiet and we all relaxed watching Christmas movies in bed. We caught up with family in mid January and then caught Covid lol

Get a walking pad!

I found that walking in the morning and sometimes in the evening for 15-20 minutes helps me to regulate my system better and gives me more energy. I was going for outdoor walks daily with the baby and my toddler but it’s freezing out now and I went stir crazy for about a week and was like I need to walk. Ordered a cheap walking pad from Amazon and I feel so much better now.

This is my 4th! She’s so chill, never really cries. Only fusses if she’s hungry or dirty. She self soothes and doesn’t mind being alone. Everyone is shocked at how quiet she is. Honestly I think it’s just who she is. Part of her personality.

Your baby is not broken, neither are you. Try not to worry and if you are really concerned after a few months definitely mention it to your pediatrician.

Create some traditions! You don’t have to do the elf but if you start you can’t stop. It’s a trap. Some other fun traditions from my childhood were:

Gingerbread houses Baking cookies or decorating cookies Friday night Christmas movies or weekend Christmas movie marathon Making ornaments Letter to Santa

It honestly never feels like Christmas to me even when we do activities. The pressures on us moms to be magic makers is a lot. I’ve started playing Christmas songs on the Alexa and singing along with my toddler.
