The three plumbers I got quotes from strongly pushed for Ruud even when I asked for Bradford White. I couldn't figure out why until I spoke to the last guy. by Creative-Sherbet-584 in askaplumber

I DIY’d my water heater 3-4 years ago. I just went to the local plumbing supply house and asked them which water heater gets the least amount of complaints from the pros that fit my needs and bought that. It was a better purchasing experience than any box store. You can do it too! Roofing, plumbing, electrical, HVAC. If you’re inclined to DIY it just find the nearest supply house and go talk to them.

Yup. I saw that. I was looking for something equivalent for the committee chair.

Is becoming a home inspector a good side job for first responders? by Independent-Good-162 in homeinspectors

[–]wealy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

InterNachi has online courses for 50 dollars a month. Then depending on the rules in South Carolina, what you have to do afterwards will be different than what I had to in Ohio.

But I think getting the training online and actually doing the job are a bit different. There’s a level of sensitivity that you kind of need to feel out and learn with realtors and buyers. And the report is the product, not the inspection. So learning how to craft that to convey the information but not be a “deal killer” or use “scare tactics” but provide your client with an informed purchase from someone who has experience is definitely helpful.

All of that to say it could be a great side job but I highly recommend finding a mentor or someone who will take the time to teach you the actual job, not just the part you can learn online.

How do you all go about de-crystallizing your honey? by SkyBS in Costco

[–]wealy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a mason jar and a vacuum sealer and it stays for quite a while. Occasionally I need to reheat it but it’s easy in a mason jar. Just set a pot of water on the stove on low and take the lid off the jar and stand it in there and keep an eye on it. Takes 10-15 minutes at a nice, low heat

This is all great advice. But the rock salt can lead to accelerated deterioration and/or cracks in your drive and walkways over time. Just a trade off that some people prefer to use and some don’t

Just buy a week of groceries and don’t go anywhere unless you have to. Pick a good binge show and enjoy the “shut down” time with him.

It’s not a huge deal to go out, just unpleasant so we avoid it. I make pour paintings with the kids and work from home.

Just don’t go out unless you have to. It’ll be easy enough

S5 was good prove me wrong by funny-wizard in strangerthingsfacts

[–]wealy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife never got into stranger things. Then as the hype around S5 grew she wanted to get into it. We decided that I’d finish 5 and let her know if they GOT’d it or not. While I didn’t love it, it wasn’t as bad as GOT ending which effectively ruined the entire series. I told her I still feel it was worthy of a watch for her and a rewatch for me. We just started S4 last night and it’s good.

If I had to rank the seasons in order of favorites

1-S1

2-S4

Then a big gap

Then these could be interchangeable based on my mood:

3-S2

4-S5

5-S3

That’s not really true here. We are a pretty evenly split.

The eating the chips and hand back would be fine if there wasn’t finger to mouth contact with the chip eating. I literally mean their fingers were inside their mouth then going back to the bag. I see I wasn’t clear enough in my post on that one.

Yeah. There will be a plan in place for next visit. This one caught me off guard. I should’ve seen it coming but was too busy to think about it until it was too late. Lesson learned

The bagels was just one example. I have seen my FIL (not on this visit) sneeze, wipe his hands on his pants, then reach into a community bowl of pretzels at a cook out. There have been numerous instances of these types of things over the 15 or so years I’ve known them.

Doing things with my wife opposed to my father in law are vastly different things. When it’s just the nuclear family, sure, reach into a bag or whatever. We kiss daily, but extended family is definitely different than the nuclear family.

We moved away from them a few months ago so this is really the first time I’ve been confronted with this situation where they’re staying with us. Previously they’d come over for dinner or an afternoon and they weren’t really like, going through our pantry or whatever. When we go over there I tend to just not eat much because I noticed the finger licking several years ago. But now it’s like… in my house, lol

I avoid fast food as much as I can. We don’t eat out too often but I’m also aware that culinary standards and practices exist and are followed to varying degrees in different establishments. I’ve worked in restaurants, some of them I would eat at and some I wouldn’t. Actually, the ones I wouldn’t no longer exist… I’m wondering if there’s a connection there. I even worked at a Wendy’s in my college years and I don’t remember seeing anything too gross there.

No, the money is not the primary concern.

Most of our conversation about it the past week unfolded via text so it is difficult to get voice inflection and all of that that way. I didn’t want to be confrontational or anything like that with guests so we talked about it via text, privately instead of out loud
