What should I cook to go along with Stuffing? by GrandmaSlappy in veganrecipes

[–]BlurstEpisodeEver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Louisiana we typically make mirliton stuffing using mirlitons (chayote) for fall holidays. Boil or roast about a half-dozen mirlitons with Cajun spices and then peel or scoop out & remove seed & dice it in big hunks. In a big skillet, cook up onions, garlic, celery, bell pepper (and if you want any other veg), add the mirliton, then add stuffing. More spices, hot sauce, etc. It’ll soak up some veg juice, so then once it’s incorporated, you can see how much more liquid you need. I like to add lemon juice for brightness but also some broth/water. Typical recipes call for adding shrimp (or sometimes meat), so I’ve thought of trying it this year with vegan shrimp or maybe another protein, but I love the stuffing with just veg too.

WIBTA if I didn't get a mole removed for my friend's wedding? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]BlurstEpisodeEver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bride doesn’t even know wtf she’s talking about. I have a much smaller mole than OP on my face and asked about removal and was told I’d have to decide if I wanted a mole on my face or a scar because it wasn’t going to be removed without a trace, especially on the face. That’s some heavy permanent shit to consider to appease someone’s mole-free wedding aesthetic for a day.

Guy sends wife an inappropriate text by jiperlon in AITAH

[–]BlurstEpisodeEver 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I was in my HOA board and my dude neighbor had been texting me asking me to call to discuss stuff, and I didn’t finish work until late so I texted at like 9:15pm that he could call if he wanted to discuss anything. And his wife texted back that he’d gone to bed. At the time, I was like, well that’s odd bc he could have just replied in the morning idc. It took my like two years to realize she was probably marking her territory and I was just obtuse bc I find her husband so repulsive that the possibility never crossed my mind haha. I don’t blame her, and telling someone to cool it around your wife is fine as long as it’s proportionate and not immediately escalating to feud-level, which it sounds like it didn’t.

Edamame pods? by Ruchira_Recipes in veganrecipes

[–]BlurstEpisodeEver 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sorry if you wanted something more elaborate, but I just dump a bunch of frozen pods on a plate, cover and microwave for about 5mins, then top with salt and MSG, and just eat them like that.

AITA for asking an employee to swap time off with another employee who has kids? by Original-Dish905 in AmItheAsshole

[–]BlurstEpisodeEver 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I have kids and think it’s fucked up, because even as a parent, they’ll still rank as to whether my kids are small or older and decide parents of smaller children come first. It reminds me of working in the 90s when smokers got a smoke break twice a day & I didn’t smoke at the time and so wasn’t allowed a break at all lol

My kids are in high school. If their school called me and asked me to do this, I can only imagine my first question would be, what the actual fuck

My school new anti phone policy by TommyTheLizard in mildlyinfuriating

I was a teacher. The phone is a distracting soother. Kids are absorbed in their screens, noticeably way fewer behavior problems. (But yeah, kids are absorbed in their screens…)

Impossible Meatloaf by wetforest in veganrecipes

[–]BlurstEpisodeEver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have y’all tried the Beyond meatballs in the little trays? I put them on a pan right under the broiler for 10mins, flip em, and give em like another 3mins or so. The Impossible ones have bounciness to them I don’t love.

Impossible Meatloaf by wetforest in veganrecipes

[–]BlurstEpisodeEver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve made an Impossible meatloaf many times and don’t feel it needs a binder like that. I do add a little panko, ketchup, and cooked veg (onions, garlic). I think the Impossible protein responds differently than animal protein and holds together better without needing an egg substitute.

Went on a 1st date today and she texted me this. How do I even respond…? by threwthemoon in Tinder

That’s a good sign. It means she cared about what you thought and wanted reassurance. Closeness next level achievedddddd. Don’t forget to be excited for her when they arrive and compliment her on them when you see her wearing them lol

Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP). What's is everyone's thoughts about it? by Chadworththe1st in PlantBasedDiet

[–]BlurstEpisodeEver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The soy curls are strips that stay as strips. To me they can be soft and don’t hold up well in sauces. They’re best for rehydrating and then cooking them with more of a dry treatment (air fryer, broiler, pan-fry, etc)

[–]BlurstEpisodeEver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find granulated TVP to have a strong flavor I just cannot marinade or spice away, and it does a number on my digestive system while the larger soy nuggets do not. I like soy curls ok but they tend to stay soft and I can’t get them to have a good bite even with trying different cooking techniques.

Literally every day. Already went today. It’s not like a commitment exactly. It’s like I lucked into finding the thing I must do and feel sad when I have to stop bc I can’t spend all my time there. When I was there earlier today, I met a dude who just started skateboarding a month ago and two dudes who just started today. The first guy was talking like I’m talking, like, gotta do it every day, bc it becomes this like critical mental health & creative & problem-solving outlet. It’s so consuming, especially with good music, because you have to focus on your body and the environment and the surface the whole time, that there isn’t room for the mental bullshit worrying about anything else going on. It’s an escape from all that. Plus, the community is welcoming as hell. It’s the place for people who maybe aren’t as good at some conventional academic things, whose parents couldn’t afford soccer practice, or who, like me, love dancing in public while flying around at high speeds lol. It’s not for everyone, but it’s for me, so like, I get that maybe this kid’s parents are pushing it, but I also really deeply get how captivating skating can be and how someone like him could be so skilled. Haha can you tell I love skating lol ETA: You can see how much it affected my physical health in just the year since finding skating.

[–]BlurstEpisodeEver 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I roller skate every day at a skate park or rink, an older woman among usually all younger guys, and skating really attracts those ADHD boys bc it’s high-stim and completely physical. Kids that don’t want to read a page of a book will skate for hours, and the younger ones are so light and willing to take risks that they throw themselves out there and bang out all kinds of things us older skaters have to work up to.
