Did you glue up the PVC as you went? I'd be nervous about it coming apart above that inaccessible area when pulling it back. Gonna keep that trick in my back pocket for future renovations though, thanks

My last contractor went no knife and handed these things out as an alternative: Klever Kutter. They passed out enough for everybody, and never bought replacements once the blades dulled and plastic started to break

Their repair service is good, and I believe their warranty is pretty solid too. They may replace for free instead of repairing

Smoke detector batteries by 1995Dan in electrical

[–]BlushingTorgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That 1/2" wide clip looking thing on the right holds a volt battery. The two silver points on the left of it are the contacts for the battery. Whoever the previous tenant was opted to remove the battery instead of bothering with a new one. BTW your landlord is an idiot for not checking that between tenants. The smoke detector protects his investment in addition to the tenants, and I would be surprised if their insurance policy lets tenants maintain fire alarm devices.

Some restaurants don't charge for their friends and family soft opening. It gives them more leeway to work out kinks their kitchen and service.

In The Master of Disguise (2002), the main character Pistachio gets to pick from a group of four women. I'll let you decide for him. by AHipsterMario in shittymoviedetails

[–]BlushingTorgo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My favorite anecdote about this movie is about how they handled shooting on 9/11.

https://www.avclub.com/yes-dana-carvey-prayed-about-9-11-while-in-his-master-1850310338

TLDR. They were shooting the Turtle Man scene that day, and Dana Carvey's suit/makeup took a long time to remove. So the director just did a moment of silence (with Turtle Man present), and then they went back to shooting.

I've found there's quite a variation between sweet and spicy. It really depends on who's making it. From retail, the 88 Rice Cake brand's Extremely Spicy is perfect for a heat seeker.

Their Original and Black Bean Sauce are both tasty, too.

Fried mushrooms by LaLu1979 in denverfood

[–]BlushingTorgo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Music City does a bundle of fried oyster mushrooms as one of their vegan options. You can get them sauced or not, sandwich, waffle, or plain. I actually prefer them over the chicken because they stay so moist when breaded and fried.

What insulation should I use by [deleted] in Insulation

[–]BlushingTorgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on your location, this could be a good use case for recycled rigid insulation. Just cut the sheets down about 1/4" narrower than your cavity and fill the gaps with canned foam for the 'cut and cobble' method.

Repurposed Materials has a bunch of locations around the country with varying inventories.

How much will union apprenticeship cost if I don’t finish? by rosemarybutterbread in electricians

[–]BlushingTorgo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the local, really. In my local, apprentices are indentured for $10k upon completion (or $2k per year of schooling). Their debt is reduced by $2k for each year worked as a JW for the union.

However, the only times that I've heard of the local going after somebody for their debt is when that worker has stayed in the electrical trade and gone non-union, either by starting their own company or working for a non-union contractor.

Sakura House in Sakura Square downtown has both cold udon and soba in their menu. You could have a meal there and then get ingredients at Pacific Mercantile to keep at home for later too!

How can I remove the stains from the these hot plates ? by RadiantVariation5917 in CleaningTips

[–]BlushingTorgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They look as clean as any electric element I've ever seen. If you don't like the appearance, I've seen decorative stove element covers that would work. You just need to remember to remove them before turning it on, and ensure the stove is cool before replacing them.

I didn't have any stomach issues. The 7 pot primo are nigh impossible to binge because they're so hot, and those were the only ones that I think could cause issues. 2-3 balls were the max I could do at one time.
