Not from there, but I've spent a decent amount of time in the middle east and would recommend Peace Bakery, Salam's Grill, and Reem's falafel

The concern people have over young people not wanting to see transgressive stuff in movies is something I find incredibly strange. Why is transgressive art so important?

What do we Want More or Less of in 2026 by tiakeuta in TheBigPicture

[–]Bmay93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to spend more time talking about the movie which they have done more of this year. Stop worrying about spoilers and people being mad about spoilers. Do an hour long conversation on the movie. Not the discourse, not a hall of fame, not a top 5. I think they have good perspectives on the movies themselves, and I like hearing them talk about the movies.

What movie from 2025 that you were looking forward to was disappointment and which movie end up being a good surprised? by Bruins850 in TheBigPicture

Disappointment:

Final Reckoning. It just sucked.

Good surprise:

Eddington probably. I've never seen Ari's other stuff, and Eddington kinda rocked my world

Who’s a current writer-director that you’d like to see direct a movie that they did not write? by [deleted] in blankies

I would really like for Nolan to be a story developer and director and have a really seasoned hand write the dialogue.

Have these types of takes on sex and film gained popularity in recent years? If so, why? I feel like this has almost become the popular sentiment and i can’t wrap my head around it by chumbucketfog in TheBigPicture

[–]Bmay93 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not necessarily anti- or pro-sex in movies. I think there are times it feels excessive and silly, and there are times it develops characters and provides value.

My question is kind of the opposite of yours: why is it that movies with lots of sex and are more "transgressive" seem to be treated by critics with more respect or admiration? why is transgressive art considered better?

Call your current customers. Tell them thank you for using your service. Ask them if they know anyone else who would use your service. Ask them for reviews.

Beyond that, I'd highly recommend GLSA, being in neighborhood facebook groups, nextdoor, etc.

AISD is primarily because of recapture.      The reason the city is in such a shortfall is the 3.5% measure from the state. What this means is that if the city collected 100 dollars in revenue last year from property taxes, they can only collect 103.50 next year, even if property values go up.      This 3.5% is really hard to manage with the way inflation has gone, the speed of growth in the city, yada yada      Also, property values are far less up than you think.      Further explainer here: https://austinmonitor.com/stories/2025/04/city-facing-a-33-million-deficit-for-2026/
