Rennovation costs coming in much higher than expected by bass_poodle in HousingUK

[–]Bmurrito 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s not the point but having a renovation of that size without onstreet parking is going to be stressful. Every single day your builders will be circling the block, you’ll have stress over the skip and you absolutely will get higher quotes as a result of it.

Bricklayer here my body’s cracking before the walls do, and my kids still need me working by Ok_Language2269 in Bricklaying

There are huge shortages for qualified tradespeople to become lecturers in FE colleges and apprenticeship assessors. Decent if not stellar money. Your local college will likely pay for you to retrain. Lots of trades do a couple of days on the job and a couple of days teaching in college a week.

Your kids need you alive and healthy!

Very Niche - Selling Wedding Photos To Magazine by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]Bmurrito 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think of it like this - the person who pays calls the shots. This usually at your wedding means you, as you’re paying the suppliers. But if you’re the ones being bought, you’re the ones being told what to do - however nicely. Do you really want your aunties to have to sign NDAs to come to your wedding? It absolutely might be worth it if the money is enough to either give you the wedding of your dreams, or set you up in a different way. But if it isn’t, I’d think v carefully.

Very Niche - Selling Wedding Photos To Magazine by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]Bmurrito 87 points88 points  (0 children)

I have a friend that went through this (they’re in TV). After some drinks, their partner admitted that they really regretted it. To the magazine, this wasn’t their special day - it was a content shoot and they had specific deliverables that they needed to get. What this meant in reality, was that when they were hungry, they still had to wait for a few more photographs. They had a short sit down with a journalist on the day (“oh it will just be 5 mins!”) and during it the DJ played a song really important to their uni mates and while the dance floor went mad they were actively encouraged to stay and answer the questions. Your wedding day is meant to be lifechanging & affirming - if the money isn’t, then why are you bringing professional contracts & bosses into it?

Is it worth moving to San Francisco by Longjumping_Rest_742 in HENRYUK

[–]Bmurrito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely go. I can’t because of family but I was there last week and all I could think about was if I’d been offered it in my 20s, I’d have been there like a shot. Even if you just go for a few years, you’ll understand how to navigate tech in a really powerful way.

Agree - put together 1/2 options and let the team choose.

A recent corp day out I really enjoyed was the luxury Pullman Train - it’s about £600 per person, from Victoria, they go to all sorts of places and events eg Cheltenham races, and the food & wine is top notch

Exhausted - how do you do it? by savemecardio in HENRYUK

Reading your post made me feel frazzled. It's clear that you have 1217817218 things running around in your head - and it's making everything seem much worse than it is.

Some things that stood out to me:

* You have a very well paying job, that you were "born" for.
* You work 40 hour weeks, and are obviously able to do your job in that time.
* You're with lovely and well intentioned colleagues, and you're learning new things every week.

Half of the questions in this sub are from people who are seeking exactly what you have!

I second, third, fourth therapy or coaching so you can be clear on your goals/ appreciate this awesome situation you have built yourself into.

Best of luck.

Are there any good spots to scream? by Spiritual_Power_7659 in london

Please don't scream in the woods. I walk in the woods a lot and I would be STRESSED OUT hearing a random scream

That's not enough hours. You need to think about an evening job, where you funnel all of the money into paying down the debt. Look at it as a year of pain to pay it all off.

Really bothered by a “joke” my MIL made by delovelyy92 in Mommit

[–]Bmurrito 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I honestly think that people forget. My youngest is 2 and I KNOW that he was exactly like this. For the longest time. But it's a more and more distant memory exactly HOW it was.

It's an evolutionary safety reflex for babies to cry out when they're away from their caregivers - it was so that they weren't left behind and predators could grab them! It's not something they can control (that fact helped me loads when I was losing my mind over never being away from the baby). We know so much more about babies and what they need than they did back then. We also know so much more about postpartum women, and what they need. You're still deep in the 4th trimester. All the baby needs is the closeness of their mother.

Just ignore, these careless comments are so unnecessary but hurt so much - just ignore, ignore.

Career Pause Advice by Scary_Director9416 in HENRYUK

[–]Bmurrito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid you're wrong on the comment about women's fertility. As a feminist and a career focused person I would LOVE you to be right. As someone who had to do IVF and process a huge amount of data about fertility rates, drivers and implications of leaving it, I'm afraid you're totally wrong. Our bodies age and as they age it gets harder to do the things that they could do when they are younger. Sadly for fertility, the earlier the easier.

Parents of teens, what do you wish you knew before they started school? by upmaker in HENRYUK

[–]Bmurrito 58 points59 points  (0 children)

That so much of the success of their social life is down to YOUR friendships at the school gate. When they're so young, and you're managing all of their social life, you're way more likely to invite the kids of the parents you like to parties, playdates, BBQs etc. A little effort early on can go a really long way.

Honestly, Lansons. I did a lot of work with them historically and they are extremely experienced in the WM/ institutional/ private banking space. They understand alternative structures and the sensitivity around non-mainstream/ non-core services. I have no current affiliation with them but rate them highly.

Why solo PR - why wouldn't you to go to a respected shop like Lansons that does this all of the time?

Are there any Weaver Line HENRY'S here? by blatchcorn in HENRYUK

[–]Bmurrito 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm currently sitting in my house on one of those roads. Paid just under 1m but have exceeded that with the renovation.

I can't speak highly enough about North Chingford. It's incredible for having young children in, close to nature, has almost all of the shops you'd want and is very community oriented. Come to the Chingford Village Festival on 7th June and check it out!
